The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
There are only three teams that belong in a conversation with the Canucks in terms of pathetic playoff records. And Ottawa is not one of them. The original Ottawa Senators (which no longer exist) actually won eleven Stanley Cups in their day. The current Ottawa Senators have only been around since 1990 and up until this year they made playoffs almost every year (I actually don't get what you mean when you say that they "never make playoffs anymore," because they were the fifth seed in the East last year). The Canucks have been around since 1970 and have ZERO Stanley Cups to show for it. The only teams that bad in NHL history are the Buffalo Sabres (also been around since 1970), the St. Louis Blues (been around since 1967), and the Los Angeles Kings (been around since 1967).

Been around since 1979 (ha! way less time than the Canucks), got five rings to show for it. Kiss the rings, bitches.

P.S. The Canucks will lose Game Seven and NEVER win a Stanley Cup. Your fans are some of the worst fair weather fans I've ever seen and your team is a disgrace.

P.P.S. I will eat my words if they win Game Seven and win the Cup, but I will not take any shit talk from any douchebag Canucks fans if that happens because if you wanna talk shit, you've gotta win five Cups first. That's how franchise success is measured, by championships won!

P.P.P.S. Normally, I would cheer for a Canadian team no matter what, but Canucks fans (there are a lot of them here in Edmonton) are just the worst fans. Well, maybe not the worst (they obviously wouldn't have to give away tickets for Stanley Cup games), but pretty terrible.

I would comment on this, but apparently I am not allowed. All I'm going to say is I wonder how many of the fans who were a part of the "Blue Mile" or whatever the hell it was during your miracle (yes, miracle. It won't happen again) run to the finals were actually Oilers fans instead of drunk teenagers looking to have fun.

Congrats, Marlo. As a fan of the team with the most Stanley Cups here, you are the only one who gets to talk down to everyone. Use that power wisely. :hatsoff:

Exactly. Every team has a shitload of bandwagon fans. I remember billboards in Windsor giving redwings tickets for free when you fill up at certain gas stations. They couldn't give tickets away, and now it's Hockeytown?

I can see farva's pov though. Those same bandwagon Canuck fans will probably be Oiler fans in 5 years. It's annoying sharing the joy of success with people who weren't in the dumps with you when they sucked. I'll never root for another team if/when Detroit hits a down era. It's Wings or nobody in my book. I don't care if a Canadian team wins or not. Fuck em.

Marlo is a fan of the Red Wings, correct? (it is correct)

News flash, the Red Wings are NOWHERE CLOSE TO BEING THE TEAM WITH THE MOST STANLEY CUPS IN NHL HISTORY. They are third all-time with eleven Cups. Toronto is second with thirteen. But they both pale in comparison to the greatest (and not my favourite, so no elitism here) NHL franchise ever, the Montreal Canadiens, who have a record 24 Stanley Cups, more than twice that of the Red Wings, and 25% of the Stanley Cups won period, ever. (I think most Oilers fans would know hockey well enough to know that Detroit does not have to most Cups ever, we're real hockey fans, it's not just about following your team through thick and thin, which Canucks fans don't do, but it's about being a knowledgeable hockey fan, which Canucks fans aren't, for the most part; I think you just proved that for me).

I'm totally coming off as an asshole right now, but I'm not trying to be one. I'm just trying to make my point. I think it's great that you like hockey and that you like the Canucks (well, maybe not so great that you like the Canucks), but it's just another franchise that doesn't compare to the Oilers with fans that do not compare to Oilers fans.

Marlo can talk shit to me considering he's a Red Wings fan, but I can fight back, at least a bit, since the Red Wings are an original six team and so have been around far longer to win their Cups. In terms of Stanley Cups per season, the only team that has a better ratio in NHL history than the Oilers is the Montreal Canadiens, who really do have every right to talk as much shit as they want to anyone. I wouldn't dare try to compare the Oilers to the Canadiens.

For the record, we are tied for fourth most Cups all-time. We have as many Cups as Boston (another original six) and more than the New York Rangers and Chicago (the other two original six), so we obviously rule.

Finally, I know it can be hard for you to understand, but the vast majority of our fans are not fair weather fans, or bandwagon fans, or unknowledgeable fans. Those drunken teenagers you're talking about are probably diehard fans too. That's just not how it works with Oilers fans (and other teams like Montreal and Toronto). I know it's tough to grasp coming from a place where the vast majority of the fans are that way, but it's just not like that in Edmonton. If you don't believe me, try to come here during next year's season and you'll see, even if we finish dead last again, people will be talking about the team, they will know every last player on the roster (which most Canucks fans do not know, even now in the playoffs), the building will be selling out, etc. This is a hockey town, plain and simple, always has been, not just when we're in first place, and still when we're in last place.

Emery, Langkow and Laperriere are this year's Masterton finalists:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=561031&navid=DL|NHL|home

You see, this is why hockey players are the toughest SOBs in sports. No way would football, baseball, basketball (ha!), soccer (double ha!), etc., players come back from these kinds of injuries every single season. Every year in the NHL there are three nominees for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy who all overcame what would be for almost any other pro athlete a career-ending injury and played again. Coming to mind are Fernando Pisani, who had ulcerative colitis and didn't win the award, but was nominated, Jason Blake, who played through leukemia (PLAYED THROUGH IT!!!), Bryan Berard, who is legally blind in one eye, Saku Koivu, who must have the biggest balls on the planet because he had lymphoma and nearly lost an eye, and the list goes on and on.

lol, I never gloat, I never brag, I am a Red Wings fan through and through, Detroit has had its share of Playoff Failures so I take the good with the bad, I may speak my opinion but I never rub it in anybodies face about there team, cuz sooner or later, tough times and even failure will plague my team again @ some point. :glugglug:

C'mon Rod don't get me into any fights up in here. lol. :surprise: I don't talk shit to anybody or even go around bragging about Detroit's Success, I don't even know why my name came up, I am just a RED WINGS fan, but I don't ever talk down to anybody about there teams, nor will I ever, and I know the Montreal Canadians have won the most cups in NHL history, Toronto is 2nd and Detroit is 3rd, Detroit would have too win Lord Stanley's Cup 14 more times too surpass Montreal, however Detroit can possibly catch and even pass Toronto if they keep winning.. :yesyes:

Albeit I am sitting here thinking Detroit looks like they have the inside track @ winning Lord Stanley's Cup again this year. :nanner: any team they play in the 2nd round is already gonna be tired.. and I don't see anybody but the Capitals realistically giving the Red Wings any problems in the Finals if they were too meet again this year. just saying.

Uhm...Plasma can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what he meant by the most cups thing is, as far as the regular posters in this thread, lightning, rangers, Canucks, wings, oilers etc, Marlo would have the bragging rights.
So your Canuck fan/lack of knowledge theory is a little off base.

And as for Montreal. Fuck them. Their entire history can be credited to the territorial bs that went on in the original 6 days. Once that shit stopped and other teams could draft those sic French canadians the habs have 2 cups in 25 years. Not so great when the everyone else has a fair chance.

EDIT: Actually, you know what? I'm not going to get into this with you farva. I'm not going to let myself be dragged down to your level of insulting other members who disagree/don't know as much as you, because I don't want to start arguments and because, as a mod, it reflects badly on FreeOnes. I'll just say one thing, as nice as I can because I am honestly infuriated by your complete lack of intelligence here:

You need to go back to school and learn how to read. Nowhere did I say the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cups in history. I am not an idiot like you are apparently trying to prove to everyone. I said they had the most Cups out of the teams represented on FreeOnes - I.E. there are no Canadiens or Leafs fans on the board, so by default Marlo can run over anyone here if he wanted to because his team is the top one on the board. Of course, now I realize it is actually Dirk & the Leafs with the most Cups. So Dirk is now king shit.

So, let's recap. You insulted my team, its fans and (most annoying) my own intelligence because you did not read my post correctly. I assume it would be too much to hope for any type of apology or backtrack from you on this since you have never shown that type of mentality towards me before.

no matter what happens, i'm proud of the Lightning. they haven't rolled over and died, but rather , have given the Penguins a fight.

You're proud because your team is going 7 games against a Pitt team without 2 of the top 5 players in the world? It's Pens fans who should be proud.

Hawks and "Nucks are heading to OT! A hockey game 7 going to overtime....nothing better/more exciting in sports....PERIOD!

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
I hope it ends early, I am fading

Two game 7s tomorrow

The Bruins better not choke like last year.

C'mon Bolts!

Well Alex Burrows ended it fairly early...scored both of the 'Nucks goals in the game to eliminate the Hawks and head on to face Nashville in round 2! Helluva finish!

Wish I felt a little better about my Pens tomorrow night! 1 for 30 something on the power play for the series & giving up 12 goals in the past 2 games doesn't exactly engender confidence! Ha ha ha! Still pulling for them though!

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
Wow, well holy fuck... Its a damn good thing the Nucks won... That would have been one of the most colossal upsets in NHL and even sports history.. Now the 2nd round is set. Nucks/Preds and Red Wings/Sharks...

I think the extra rest for the Wings pays off, and the Sharks are soooo lucky to even still be in the Playoffs if wasn't for a total KINGS meltdown in game 3.. and now the EXHAUSTED Nucks get the confident very DEFENSIVE minded Predators in the 2nd round... the Nucks might not make it out of the 2nd round.. IMO... RED WINGS vs. PREDATORS in the WCF.. :2 cents:

I guarantee I would've apologized for misunderstanding your statement and calling you unknowledgeable (and I was about to after reading STDiva's reply, but then I read your reply), but why would I considering the following things you wrote?:

"I am honestly infuriated by your complete lack of intelligence here"

"You need to go back to school and learn how to read"

"I am not an idiot like you are"

Let me ask you, where in my statements did I say anything as insulting to you as those things? Where did I insult your intelligence? Point it out to me. Because I know that I didn't. I said unknowledgeable. About hockey, obviously. Granted, I misunderstood your statement and pointed out your lack of knowledgeability based on that (which actually turned out to be accurate since you were under the belief that the Red Wings had more Cups than the Leafs). You didn't specifically say that Marlo was a fan of the team with the most Cups of any team represented on the board. What you literally said was:

Congrats, Marlo. As a fan of the team with the most Stanley Cups here, you are the only one who gets to talk down to everyone. Use that power wisely. :hatsoff:

So I misunderstood that; you didn't specify against my interpretation, so that isn't my fault, it was just a misunderstanding. You're the one who made it an attack on someone's intelligence and threw personal insults around, not me. I didn't do that. Show me where I did that.

You said that you didn't want to let me drag you down to my level. As if. This reply is way below my level. Seriously, look at what I've said and what you've said. I've never insulted people personally on these boards (although I have been by other people a bunch of times since I do get into these exchanges with people). I may be a smart-ass, but I do not attack people that way.

As for insulting your team, so what? As if you haven't insulted the Oilers for their recent dismal seasons on this board. I don't like the Canucks (they are a division rival), I think they have a disgraceful franchise record, and everything I said about their fans is true.

P.S. Anyway, congratulations to the Canucks and their fans on their first round victory. Nashville is a good team and it should be a good series in the second round. And I hope the Canucks lose and never win a Stanley Cup.

P.P.S. I know that you didn't post anything about any of this Marlo. I wasn't trying to say that you were involved in this in any way, and I don't think that I did say that at any point.
