Really well-written article on the Winnipeg deal:

http://bloguin.com/articles/hockey/...-the-nhl-move-to-the-wrong-canadian-city.html

The guy makes some good points. Will the team succeed in the arena with what will now be the least seats for an NHL arena? Who was the moron who decided to construct such an arena, lacking in sufficient seating?

The suites look like shit compared to what is the best arena in the league, the Wild's 'X'. Plus, he makes some valid points on it being the least likely place elite players would even want to play, considering it's the coldest Tundra in North America.

I don't think NHL players care about location as much as other major sports leagues *cough cough NBA cough*. I'd say a good 60% of the players in the NHL are from somewhere cold in the first place.

It's probably more than 60%. But, if you noticed from the article (that I'm guessing you didn't read) they questioned NHL players and only like 20 something percent said Winnipeg was a good location.

Higher on that list was Quebec City, Quebec. They, however, don't have a sufficient arena. They also noted a number of players that wanted nothing to do with Edmonton because of the cold. They don't make 'em like Lou Nanne anymore.

More fodder from Manitoba:

What do you guys think? How about the Winnipeg you're-going-to-freeze-your-nuts-off-there-in-February-if-you-stand-outside-longer-than-a-few-minutes?

Nah...Jets is a classic.

The Gold? Gtfo

It's pretty shitty, but not only do the Wild have arguably the worst jerseys in the league, they also have the freaking lamest name in the history of professional sports. You can't get much worse than that.

I can't even remember the list (they had like 10 names and they picked "Wild") but I would've liked Mustangs. They could've even went back to the St. Paul Athletic Club, but in Minnesota you can't name a team other than anything else than after the state. Hell even the North Stars would've been groovey.

Wild? Ugh.

Minnesota Northern Lights is where it's at! I loved that one.

Are you being facetious?

My high school alma matter were the "Governors." That one was pretty sick. "Hawks" was what I grew up playing as. Not bad either.

Let's be honest, with all the teams out there they are running out of slick names. If the fucking Lakers didn't move that would've also been sick since the state is the land of 10,000 lakes. (There's actually over 15,000 lakes.)

I really like Northern Lights. It's better than Wild or Freeze.

At least it gave you a sweet logo.

Again, I don't know if you're being facetious or not.

I actually have the original home (Gaborik) and away (white and green) ones. Being a season ticket holder (well, my dad was for quite some time) I kind of have to grin and bare it.

TBH, the "third" and "fourth" jerseys are classy.

I actually wanted the colors to be red, silver and white. But...

Any godamn name is better than "Wild." Gayguys would've been better for chrisakes.

I swear, I'm gonna find the punk bitch who gave us that god awful name, some day.

Yes, I fully agree. Wild is the shittiest name in the NHL. You can't even refer to a player like you can with other teams i.e. Ales Hemsky is an Oiler, Crosby is a Penguin, Mikko Koivu is a Wild? Makes no sense. Honestly, you guys should have bought the North Stars name from Dallas and used that.

If the CFL at one time had two teams called the Roughriders then I can't see why the NHL can't have Stars and North Stars. Plus, the North Stars jerseys were pretty sweet.

I agree. All the retro NHL sweaters are generally pretty cool, and the North Stars were no exception. All this new wave type designs nowadays that every team has to come up with doesn't suit my taste. And the name, well, it blows balls for sure. I root for the Huskies moreso than the Wild partly because of that crud name (and because half my family attended that university).

I enjoyed the Moose name as well but they are long gone.

Are we as fans past the whole flashy, hip, "marketable" jerseys the NHL comes up with? It seems like most people enjoy the simple and retro looks. I hope the NHL realizes this and doesn't screw up the Winnipeg/Manitoba jerseys.

I am, but I' will never turn down any authentic. My dad got a great price on a Coyotes Tkatchuk jersey that I've worn. It's maybe the ugliest thing around, but with all the heavy stiching and shit, I've got complements over that thing.

As far as retro styling, it really is the "in" thing right now.

This guy thinks the Wild's third jersey is the best in the league:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/pu...orst-NHL-jerseys-of-the-last-d?urn=nhl-200390

It does have that throwback look for sure. At my mall they have authentics of that jersey for $300.00. I don't know what happened to getting an authentic CCM for $40-50.

All of them on this person's list have that throwback look:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/.../436550-top-10-nhl-jerseys-of-all-time/page/2

And this person's list is pretty good as well:

I still think the Whalers and Quebec have two of the all time greats. In addition, both Chicago and Detroit's Winter Classic jerseys were incredible. Two of the nicest I've ever seen. I also liked the color scheme and style of the Jets jerseys. It will be interesting to see how they play this out with their name, jersey, etc.

Seriously? I turn the game on and this is the shit to which I'm treated?

If you want to do something that is worth your time, perhaps you might enjoy this brand new article that I wrote today for Bleacher Report on whether or not Winnipeg's team should be named the Jets.

Shameless plug!
