NHL '09/'10 Season Thread

That's what enforcers are for. :hammer:

I didn't watch that game, just saw the highlights. Did anyone retaliate on Downie for that? Back in the day, if you did that to Gretzky, Semenko would destroy you. That's what needs to happen. I actually liked Steve Downie a lot, but I don't think I can anymore after that play.

another blown lead as a result of poor play by the Lightning. who could have seen that coming...besides me of course?

it's annoying to hear the Lightning broadcasters talk about "if the Lightning can make the playoffs...". they can't. they won't. not the way they play. stop talking about it.

I think they still have a chance to make the playoffs but I won't count on it too much. Still there is some hope.

That play by Steve Downie on Crosby was despicable. He only got two minutes for it. Shameful. I know the rules are the rules and that's why Ovechkin got a game misconduct for his play on Campbell, but it didn't look to me like Ovechkin was intentionally trying to hurt him, in fact, it only looked like a light push to me. No doubt what it led to was ugly and the call was fair according to the rules of the game, but when I see the play that Downie makes on Crosby and hear that he only gets two minutes for it, it just sickens me. Downie's play was dirty and it was an intentional attempt to injure a star player. Downie gets two and Ovechkin gets a game misconduct. Out of whack.

I saw that play and Downie didn't want to injure him , he's an intense player and his legs got entangled with Crosby's and it they both fell , Crosby's leg got twisted. Absolutely no reason to give him more than 2 minutes for that. I know that Downie in the past has been a dirty player but that's not what I would call a dirty hit. :2 cents:

The first team to be eliminated is Edmonton. No surprise, but to be eliminated with 14 games left is remarkable. They currently have 49 points with 14 games to play. That's a maximum of 28 more points for a maximum total of 77 points. Detroit, currently in 8th place in the Western conference, has 78 points.

Yikes.

i knew there'd be people who blame Downie for something he didn't try to do. he followed through on his check and fell on Crosby's leg. it happens. there was nothing purposeful about that.

The Lightning are gods and they can do no wrong, I understand.

The clip is pretty damn clear.

that's not what i said at all. if Downie really wanted to hurt Crosby, he could have. how people can see a falling Downie and say he meant to land precisely where he did on Crosby's leg is beyond me.

Crosby is the Canadian Jesus and anyone who touches him should recieve a major penalty. :cussing:

I'm going to call it right now: Buffalo exits in the first round.

It doesn't matter how good Miller plays. He can make 40 saves a game and it won't matter because the Sabres have no offensive power.

Ouch.

I guess the truth hurts.

I would like to see them go a little further. I think they're a quality club. A few years ago they were just about dead in the water, but they've made the hard decisions and made good changes. There are a bunch of clubs who could learn from them (ie. Toronto).

Are you saying spectacular goaltending isn't the only thing that matters? :1orglaugh
