NFL '23 Season Thread

"Could this be Ron Rivera's last year with the team?" (Cartman's voice) - "Yeah .. pretty much!!"

Carolina is now 1-8. They do not have a first round pick next year.

If I owned this team: GM Scott Fitterer and Head Coach Frank Reich are fired today. Promote DC Ejiro Evero to interim HC. Empanel a search committee to find the next GM in the upcoming offseason. Next GM makes decision on next coach. Even if Bryce Young is a good quarterback in a hopeless situation (see: Trevor Lawrence, 2021) this team is still three years away from doing anything.

Losing to Jim Irsay's Indianapolis Colts last week did not help.

Per a football site that I follow:

A dead man walking since before the season even began, Reich literally said he wasn’t having fun. Maybe it’s because he was rumored to prefer C.J. Stroud to Bryce Young before owner David Tepper intervened. Tepper, of course, has a history of intervention. He has no history of NFL success. That is not going to change any time soon with the Panthers’ fiasco of a season producing a likely No. 1 overall pick that is headed elsewhere. The reason the No. 1 is shipping to Chicago via Charlotte? That Reich was fired? This is a tire-fire roster with no offensive line or skill corps weapons. Now it doesn’t have a coach. That means there is no realistic chance to develop Young.

Congratulations to the Detroit Lions who have won their division for the first time since 1993.

Frank Reich has been fired. He can't hurt us anymore. I didn't think they could get somebody worse than Matt Rhule but they proved me wrong. GM Scott Fitterer still needs to be fired also. Don't know how much confidence I will be able to muster that the next guy they hire will be any good. I think things may be bad for a long time in Carolina.

Speaking of the panthers....

‘Go Woke, Go Broke’: NFL Team’s Stadium Empty Despite Offering $1 Tickets

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/go-woke-go-broke-nfl-team-s-stadium-empty-despite-offering-1-tickets/ar-AA1mas0D

For $0.45, I'd grab tickets just to run around the stadium.
I don't know how true "Go Woke, Go Broke" statement is, but I could see how football fans might not be the best place to force a political message, unless it's "America, Fuck Yeah!"

I don't think "wokeness" has anything to do with it. They're just fucking terrible.

I don't think "wokeness" has anything to do with it, either. From what I've read, the Team Owner is a butt-insky. Supposedly, he is the one who wanted the overall #1 pick to be Bryce Young. The GM and Head Coach wanted CJ Stroud.

The GM "giving up the farm" to move up to grab Bryce Young ALSO set the franchise back for the next couple of years. AND, trading away RB C. McCaffrey.

Carolina's nightmare season is finally over. 2-15. Scored no points in the final two games. No first round pick next year. Owner is still a dickhead. No hope.
