NFL '23 Season Thread

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to start one of these.

Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. A new dynasty in the AFC. Yippee.

We already have things to talk about:

Derek Carr was released by the Raiders on Tuesday and is now a free agent. He will likely be the first piece taken off the QB board this offseason. There is also some intrigue surrounding the futures of Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson. Where will they be playing September?

Sticking with the QB position, MASSIVE contract extensions are coming for Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. Will their franchises be able to build rosters with so much cap space tied up in one position?

Is this the year that Commissioner Roger Goodell is not booed at the Draft? Seems unlikely.

Free agency starts next month. The Draft is after that. Before you know it training camps will start and NFL football will be back. NFL '23 Season Thread starts now.

Derek Carr is signing with the Saints and Geno Smith is inking a long-term extension to keep him in Seattle. This takes two teams out of the quarterback sweepstakes for the upcoming Draft. There are whispers that Chicago will have traded out of the #1 pick prior to the start of free agency. Let's watch.

The Giants sign Daniel Jones to a $160 million dollar contract and have used their Franchise tag on Saquon Barkley.

The Ravens could not reach a long-term deal with QB Lamar Jackson and have used the non-exclusive Franchise tag. Jackson can negotiate with other teams and, should he agree to terms, the Ravens have the right to match the offer to take two first-round picks as compensation. Atlanta (https://twitter.com/diannaespn/status/1633200049009176577?s=46&t=EPhZOr-fe9thAYbB-rRAmQ) and Carolina (https://twitter.com/josephperson/status/1633218702899290112?s=20) have already stated they will not be pursuing Lamar Jackson.

Additional players Franchise tagged:
Evan Engram, TE, Jaguars
Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders
Daron Payne, DT, Commanders
Tony Pollard, RB, Cowboys

After all the trades in 2022?? It is still early! Where will Nuk Hopkins get traded to? And, Rodgers to the Jets?

What an interesting evening. Now they need to get the right guy whomever that person may be in the eyes of the coaching staff. Giving up one's best receiver with a rookie quarterback coming in is interesting but I guess it couldn't be helped. The next few weeks and the months following certainly won't be boring. Looking forward to it.

Frank Reich is the new Head Coach. The Owner wants to win NOW. So - that takes out the Florida QB. I can't see Reich going with a QB that is 5'10" - there goes the Alabama QB. And, *I* think Reich goes with the better program QB (Ohio State) over the lesser-tier conference QB (Kentucky).

With DJ Moore's salary off the books - who is to say they don't trade for ARI WR1 Nuk Hopkins?

We are now in the "legal tampering" period which is the de facto start of free agency. Lots of moves today. Jimmy G is going to Vegas. Sam Darnold is going to be the backup in San Fran. Numerous other signings.

More news today. Allen Lazard to the Jets allegedly in the hope of working out a trade for Aaron Rodgers. Darren Waller traded to the Giants. Andy Dalton will be the backup in Carolina.

Another QB Domino falls: Baker Mayfield signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Intrigue continues around Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson.

Raiders are now on Easy Street and are a lock to go to the Super Bowl.
