Nascar, What's your favourite driver

What's with the lack of love for the Southern California boy? Out of more than 80 posts there's only 3 or 4 references to Jimmie Johnson? Guy has won 4 consecutive cup titles! 1 cup title over the course of a career is considered a serious achievement, let alone 4... in a row. He is the sport. Shame on you all for repping the likes of Little E and the 24 car (both of whom I respect greatly for their contributions to the sport) before my man from El Cajon. :nono:

I've got a few...

Jeff Gordon - since as long as I can remember, I've been a fan.
Jimmie Johnson - liked him before the 4, and I like him more after.
Denny Hamlin - Great guy, interesting...needs to really break out soon though.

And after last week, I've got to say I'm pulling for Jamie Mac. The guys just a flat out good person...and a good driver.

Jeff Gordon is a proven all time great driver.
Jimmie Johnson is in process of proving he's an all time great driver. He still has a couple of weak areas (Road courses, and plate tracks) Maybe some think he should be more dominating with the best crew chief in the sport?

No doubt. You cannot overlook the brilliance of Chad Knaus. His nickname is "The Magician" for Christ's sake LOL! But how much more dominating would the naysayers like him to be? Since teaming up with Knaus in 2002, the 48 has finished 1st in season rank 4 (consecutive) times, with 2 second place finishes and no worse than 5th overall. Even in the 2 seasons since 2002 that Jimmie finished 5th overall, he had a combined 7 wins, 5 poles, 19 top 5's and 43 top 10's. That's pretty damn dominating IMO.

Moreover, in that same time frame from 2002 on, the 24 has finished 4th, 4th, 3rd, 11th, 6th, 2nd, 7th and 3rd in the overall standings. As well, in that same time period Gordon has amassed a total of 24 wins. Johnson has had 24 wins in has last 3 seasons alone and 47 total since 2002. Like I said, I respect Jeff Gordon, he is a fabulous driver (anyone with 4 cup titles in a career, as Gordon (and Johnson) has, is obviously tried and ture) and is an integral force in the marketing of NASCAR, but Jimmie is quite obviously the class of the sport over the past decade.

Quite right...Jimmie is better than Jeff over the past (more than a few) years. I like both, and Jeff more than Jimmie, but this is just a plain fact. :2 cents::thumbsup:

I hear you for sure and I love me some Jeff Gordon. He is one of the most impactful and influential racers of my lifetime without doubt. It was so awesome to see all the good ol' boys get so mad when a rich little pretty boy like Gordon stepped onto the scene and began dominating them all back in the day! Nothing like a pissed off redneck LOL :1orglaugh! No disrespect at all, ever for the 24, but Jimmie's my hometown boy!

I didn't even know who he was at the time (rumor was, he was Robbie Gordon's cousin), but I started pulling for Jeff Gordon during the inaugural Brickyard 400 back in '94. And it's been one helluva ride ever since. For awhile, he and Brooke had a house at Lake Norman, where my friends live. But it was easy to see why they got out of there, what with all of the crazed fans that came for a look-see.

And yeah, the rednecks have pretty much hated Gordon since Day 1... which has always made me like him that much more. Gordon and (especially) Johnson are more like the opposite of rednecks. Hell, they look and act more like formula car drivers. But to get to where they are, both have beaten somebody to be somebody - which is what is missing in American formula cars now days. It's hard to be a somebody if all you're doing is beating the likes of Danica and Marco. F1 is totally on track in that respect: Lauda beget Prost, who beget Senna, who beget Schumacher, who beget Alonso, who beget Hamilton (+/-). But anyway, Johnson is the real deal. An amazing driver, and though I've never met him, he seems like a geniunely nice guy.

NASCAR uses different terminology than formula and sports cars to describe handling. So I'm just waiting for the day when a pit reporter asks Danica if she's tight or loose. :rofl2:

Days of Thunder is STILL a great movie...certainly worth re-watching now and again. :D

Not great, but pretty good entertainment. The ironic thing about the movie critics negative comments about Days of Thunder (and Stroker Ace before it) was the unbelievable humorous scenes, were the true stories. Pit crew eating ice cream, 2 drivers racing on the street on the way to a meeting with France Sr, etc

48 wins for the #48. That is one incredible team... and one incredible driver.

Bad luck for my man Juancho today. I didn't see the entire race, but I heard that Juan blew an engine. :( When I had to leave the house, he was running up front.

BTW, did anybody see the crewman who had to leap into the air and jump over Harvick's hood to avoid getting mowed down on pitroad???

Juan sped on Pit Road twice too...he had a bad day, all together.

I did see that...thought he was going to be road kill....

Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus are just unbelievable! What else can you say? To bad that his success is turning a lot of traditional NASCAR fans off. But seems like even they would see how amazing the 48 team is. Where are we now, 49 wins for Johnson... and 190 for Hendrick Motorsports?

Well I have 2 favorite drivers

Jeff Gordon & the 4 time consecutive champion Jimmie Johnson.

& I have 3 that I absolutely hate Tony Stewart, Dale Jr(lets face it he is extremely overrated, plus he wouldn 't have most of his fans if his name wasn't Earnhardt) And Montoya( I despise him most of all)
