No no :nono: You're thinking of COLE Trickle.
He Drove for Tim Daylan in the City Chevrolet Lumina in the 1991 Daytona 500. In perhaps the sport's greatest show of grit and determination, he rebounded from a horrific crash at that very same track the year before to outlast the likes of Rowdy Burns and Russ Wheeler to win the Great American Race.
Plus, he had a hot doctor for a girlfriend and one of the greatest actors ever for a crew chief.

I am not into Nascar. I respect it for its contributions to sports though. I do love local stock car races and admire many top hometown drivers. The area I live in is big on both stock and drag racing. Drag racing bores me since it requires no real driving skills, the mechanic is the true winner in that sport I feel.

Amen brother Everything you said except the thing about Jeff Gordon and Jimmie JohnsonBy the same token, not many F1 guys could do NASCAR. Both F1 and NASCAR are pinnacle elements of motorsport.
They are simply very different.
In F1 it is all about technology and fuel strategy and driving finesse. The cars are on rails and require a lot of simple commitment to get the best out of them.
NASCAR is a whole different game. 2400lb cars, barely any downforce, 800 hp, no aids etc... And the cars evolve all race as the track changes. Imagine that at those speeds, with a concrete wall and opponents right by you. Make no mistake it is tough and the top guys are some of the best in the world. The likes of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson (and Montoya) could race anything.
I can understand people not enjoying NASCAR (it is not everyones cup of tea) but don't underestimate the challenge. It is TOUGH.
Nascar has drivers now? Hmm, news to me.
