Just joined the thread. Best time of the year for sports is right now. Baseball season just starting, hockey and basketball playoffs coming right up. Love it. This has probably been done already, but predictions:
AL East - New York Yankees
AL Central - Minnesota Twins
AL West - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
AL Wildcard - Boston Red Sox
All pretty conventional picks, so sleepers: Tampa Bay Rays, they're still pretty much the same team that went to the World Series two seasons ago. Chicago White Sox, Jake Peavy could be huge for them. Seattle Mariners, if healthy, their pitching staff is really solid, Franklin Gutierrez is poised for a breakout season, and Chone Figgins is a really nice offseason pickup.
AL MVP - Joe Mauer (Minnesota Twins). I expect a back-to-back MVP for Mauer.
AL Cy Young - Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers). Will lead the AL in Ks (even though Ks are just a flashy stat in my opinion) and probably win another 19 games.
AL Rookie of the Year - Wade Davis (Tampa Bay Rays). Lots of Ks (again, flashy) and could win a dozen games or more as the Rays fifth starter. Another possibility is Carlos Santana of the Cleveland Indians, he'll start the season in the minors, but has a chance to get called up and has massive power.
NL East - Philadelphia Phillies
NL Central - St. Louis Cardinals
NL West - Colorado Rockies
NL Wildcard - Atlanta Braves
Sleepers: Cincinnati Reds, Joey Votto could be the NL MVP and their rotation could be killer. New York Mets, I don't know why, with the injuries to Reyes and Beltran, and K-Rod's lackluster season last year, but I see this team as having a chance to make the playoffs.
NL MVP - Joey Votto (Cincinnati Reds). Troy Tulowitzki (Colorado Rockies) will be a contender as well.
NL Cy Young - Roy Halladay (Philadelphia Phillies). I think Halladay has a legitimate chance at 22 wins or more. He'll have great run support and he almost always goes into the late innings.
NL Rookie of the Year - Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves). This is likely.
Another prediction - AL Comeback Player of the Year - Ken Griffey Jr. (Seattle Mariners). He's won this award in the NL before in Cincinnati and I think he'll win it again this year by bringing his batting average back up to a respectable level from last year and continuing to hit HRs, which he has never stopped doing.
