Mass Effect 3

Can someone explain to me why this game is so beloved? And I mean it with all seriousness, I'm not knocking it one bit. I bought the first one a while ago and played through the story, and it seemed cool, just not spectacular, you know? This game is really highly anticipated, almost to the level of a new Gears, CoD, or Halo, and I can't figure out why. I feel like I never really fully understood all the stuff you could do in it as well. Like it would have been way better if I had a Mass Effect fan for a friend to help me out the way I do with Skyrim and my buddies. Again, I liked it, and didn't really have any major complaints, I just don't understand the fuss, you know?

I took to the first game with a lot of hesitation, I bought it after the strong recommendation of a friend whose choice of games has always been questionable at best.

After the first two hours I started the get bored, it wasnt picking up pace and I was getting bored quickly then boom! Your a spectre and the game opens up. 200 hours of play time later I have a perfect set of achievements for ME1 - 1 year later after about 400 hours play I have another full house of achievements for ME2. I have always hated my friend for being right!

Both games were brilliant!

Now I'm a big fan of science fiction in the first place and I do enjoy RPGs within reason, so my opinion would always be naturally biased to a game which is the perfect mix of both. But after you play through the first, and I do mean a series playthrough, you have amassed 40 hours of time in a universe that has had a series effort to build and expand on. Its not some stupid game where a series of places, people and scenarios have been manufactured to create a linear and repetitive play through. A series effort has been made to create a whole universe worthy of the longest running tv show.

It depends how series you want to take the game, play it and put it down or play it and enjoy living in the characters world. The second gave me another few hundred hours of gameplay, beauty of being the choices I made in the first built on those of the first and cleverly affects the world around you. Each games ending was satisfying but left the promise of more, building and building to what you know is coming.

Now the 3rd is here and what you have is the culmination of a lot of waiting and playtime, this is what the serious fans of the series have been waiting for. The scale of the game is impressive, the visuals looks amazing and its all based around characters you actually know alot about and really care about. I can praise the game for how it appeals to me, if you didn't love the first one, that's fine you will appreciate it for what it is. I play a game for a rich story and this delivers everything I want.

John Shephard - An earth born war hero and paragon Sentinel who survived the suicide mission with a perfect ending is eagerly waiting to be imported into ME3!

Yeah, I was never really big on the outer space type of nerdiness, I'm more of a swords and wizards type of guy (just go look at me an Andronicus' Star Wars/LOTR argument), but the theme and setting certainly didn't turn me off by any means. And I'm usually the type of player who likes to delve deep into games with massive worlds and explore every quest I can, but I just couldn't really figure out how to do that on ME1 (never played ME2, btw).

The one and only.
Meh, game is a let down so far. Very disappointing considering how much I loved ME1.

I spent a couple hours playing ME3 today and didn't find it that enjoyable. Maybe I'll make it pick it up again after I've played a couple seasons in MLB 2K12.

Not to get off topic, but there is a great MLB 2K12 commercial about the Cubs winning the series. It is epic.

Might pick up Mass Effect 3 some time - I liked the other two, but right now, my gaming menu is pretty full and time, not so much.

I plan on doing just that in the My Player and Franchise modes. One can dream, right? :(

I just went ahead and got my Shepard to look as close as possible to the way I made him in ME1 and ME2. I actually think he looks better.

My appearance and my game save files weren't working but I got the save files with previous choices to at least work today so I went ahead and made my character again. Was a little harder since they took so many customization options out of the game.

So far I think it is a pretty good game. It gets better and more options open up the more hours you put into it.

I always used the basic guy's appearance for my Shepard. No reason to change it, I figured.

And I disagree with Andro. This game is amazing.

A lot of people I work with just got this game too... I haven't played any of the prequels or I would probly have it too. I hope you get a good time out of this game and don't spoil it for me, I'm getting caught up and then on to this one.
