It seems after season four, the series has taken a complete 180 degree turn. It's like they have completly ignored the first 4 seasons and are telling a completly different story.

I'am also wondering if the so called "flash back" scenes presented to us in the first four seasons somehow tie in to what is happening now. Maybe the flashback scenes was the actual storyline and what we saw with them runnig around the island somewhat "LOST" was actually something different.

We all know time is a major subject of the show....fuck this shit confuses me like you wont believe. I want to quit watching the show but because i've invested so much time in watching it, I want to watch it to the end.

If the writers/producers end this right, this show could have a historic ending similiar to shows like "The Prisoner" and "The Fugitive".

wow your going back some years bull, the prisoner and the fugitive.
i never saw either ending, but i know the fugitive finale was the most watched braodcast on tv in its time, before the moon landing.

Anyway, i understand what you saiod about this season. personally i am enjoying it alot. but it is confusing.
I usually watch each episode twice, plus i read the episode summary on lostpedia to clarify or catch anything that might not have sunk into my skull.

Before I had suggested that maybe Charlotte was Widmore's daughter, but since she's with Dharma, it doesn't seem very likely. Also they said that having a child with a woman off the island was why Widmore was getting kicked out, so Elloise almost certainly isn't Penny's mother.

that's a really good point about the wheel. Theoretically all they have to do is move the wheel, live long enough to get bumped back into 2004 and then turn it back.

turning the wheel would convey them through time.
would it also convey darhma and the others with them?
it didnt convey the others the first time ben turned it.
only the passengers and the frieghter people.
So if this does happen, and it will have to be turned twice will it be faraday doing the turning? Jack, sawyer, ben, desmond, juliette, kate ? who knows?

I also now think adam and eve are most probably rose and bernard.

actually now i dont think that theory will work.
After watching the end of episode 5 again where christian told locke to turn the wheel, he said "theres a wheel that slipped off its axis".
the wheel was moving irratically, like skipping, i think thats why the island was moving through time.
It should have only moved once when ben turned it, but instead it got offset and caused the erratic time travel.
maybe faraday or someone can figure out a way to make it leap to a specific point in time, like 2007

I don't think he was being literal when he said that. If the wheel was actually dislocated from it's axis, then how could Locke turn it and why would it still work? The whole idea of having a mechanical device that dispenses weird particles like a coin-op prize machine doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I'd rather think that even though the wheel appears to be physical, itself and the act of turning it are symbolic to the desires of the participant to get the Island's magic mojo going, like tossing a coin into a fountain to make a wish.

PS. Did you watch the recap episode tonight? I didn't see this "new perspective" other than they got a different voice-over guy. It sounded like the guy who plays Richard, I forgot his name. But it was kinda cool to see some of the flashbacks/forwards in chronological order. wouldn't it be crazy to watch the whole show like that?

yeah i admit its a little cheesy, turn the wheel and zoom.
but i think it is that.
it may be symbolic, you might be right.
but after christian said that they did show the wheel bouncing and jumping, like it was , dislodged.
if you see it again, check out that part closely. (ep. 5).
It seemed to me the writers tried to make that clear that that was why the island was skipping through time.
but then again, hawking told jack sun desi and ben in ep. 6 that the island was always moving( but she wasn't specific if physically, through time or both).

anyone else beside me think that Alpert might turn out to be some epic villain in the end? That or at least possibly the most powerful character of any we've seen on the show, Jacob included.

My reasoning is that when an Other asks Richard if its good to bring Ben into the temple to save him Alpert responds that he doesnt care if Jacob or Widmore find out as he doesn't take orders from either of them (or something to that effect).

And that makes me think that when Locke was in Jacob's cabin he asked for help cause Alpert was trying to steal control or take the island from him. Richard is only helping Locke cause he realizes how powerful he is with respect to the island.

I think Richard might end up being some Egyptian God or powerful being. The mural in the temple showed an Egyptian who is thought to be Anubis, and there was the smoke monster. Maybe Alpert is Anubis (both 6 letters and both start with A) and the smoke monster is his servant? It just seems to make sense that Richard is an Egyptian as his skin is so dark compared to the other Others. That or the fact that since he doesn't appear to age he can tan outside with no fear of getting cancer, lol.

He does seem to be the real leader of the Others, aside from maybe Jacob. Even with Ben you could tell that Alpert was willing to sit behind the scenes because the Island chose Ben, and not because he was his subordinate or couldn't lead.

I think that he is definitely the oldest one there. Locke talked to him in the 50's right? it's kind of interesting that Ben and Widmore both aged while Alpert didn't. Do you think that he might have been born on the island, and The Dharma "Incident" (which we will see at this season finale) was what led Island women to stop being able to have kids and the Others to commit the Purge?
