Re: Is Libya a victory for Obama?

If Libya ends up becoming more democratic, good, I'm all for it, kudos to Obama for whatever role he played in ousting the colonel I guess (even if he did violate the terms of the agreement he made with the Arab League and the UN ), but we shouldn't expect good things to happen simply because Khadaffy is out. The big question is, who will replace Khadaffy and how do we know that said replacement isn't 10x the brute Khadaffy was?

What happens now, do we stand by and help the new government of Libya rebuild their nation? Can we afford to? Can we afford not to?

Where are the huge stockpiles of small and medium sized arms being hidden in Libya and how do we know that they're not going to end up in the wrong hands?

Who are the rebels for the most part, are they democratic and pro American?
(I seriously doubt it)

Does Obama actually want a democratic type of government to represent the people of Libya? If yes, then why did he go to the Arab League and the UN for approval, they're appointed positions of power not elected positions.

shit.....like we have an actual "democracy" in America.....lol

Great point, you can read the Constitution of the United States of America, the Bill of Rights and the Constitutions of the 50 individual states and nowhere can you find the word democracy.

:dunno: Maybe for the same reasons GWB and his crowd went to the Iranian backed autocratic, theocratic leaning Shias in support of ousting Saddam?

Maybe the theory goes you can work with people you help get their means for your ends?

Not saying it'll work or that I agree...

Just sayin' :o

But that's true of most socially conservative states, they prefer the aristocracy over democracy.

Yeah but in Arab states and Persian, oh and Pashtun(Pakistan), there is a nasty unusually large security apparatus ready to quash dissent/free thought by any means and to protect the ruling elite. There is no comparison to this in the progressive West.
