Has McCain thrown in the towel on the race?

^^
From 1998 -- to 2006, when the Pubs had full control of Congress...it never occured to any of them that the housing bubble/ownership society stuff might be roaring out of control? This credit/mortgage calamity we are in is the result of NONREGULATION. Simple as that. McCain can stroll the halls of Congress all he wants, but I just told him why we're in the mess.

We have 2 choices. We can either dig a bailout trench and fight this fire. Or we can let it burn down main street and Wall Street and deal with the resulting Unemployment through small and large businesses failing all across the nation. Perhaps nary a business has closed in Connecticut, but if you bother traveling 100 miles in any direction beyond Connecticut, perhaps you'll see a Depression-era picture forming of abandoned shopping centers and For Sale signs wavering gently in the breeze across millions of lawns all across the nation.

Sweden and Germany are the most recent Euro countries who did this same bailout that we're trying to do. They lived through it fine. We can come back on the other side too.

I just said the same thing here;
http://board.freeones.com/showthread.php?p=2530107#post2530107

The trick is for them to talk about the problem without letting on how they contributed to causing it.

Both you and I have no idea what the great depression was like. If you are that old and did in fact live through it, then all I can say to you is keep losing my social security money at the casinos and stealing advil from Walgreens.

I wouldn't even pretend to know what a "depression-era picture" looks like until I live it, feel it and breathe it.

And please don't even begin to believe in that brain-meat of yours that I'm ignorant of what is happening outside of my home state.

I don't know if I believe the bailout is necessary. Should every player at Las Vegas who bets the farm be forgiven his debt? One of the first arguements to come out in the debate about this was why should execs of these banking institutions that screwed up so badly out of their own greed, still get their golden parachutes at taxpayer expense?

Maybe this will knock us all into the stone age, where we live in cardboard boxes and tin shanty's, but I'm convinced it's not going to end here. They're already lining up. Next is Ford, GM, Chrysler, Student loans, and credit card debt. Hey people's dogs and kids under 18 get credit cards! Internet mortgage companies are already talking about government backed mortgages with $400k loans at low rates. Low rates but still what average families can't afford. They don't care, it's free money while it lasts. No one wants to take any information about living according to their means. That's just not a part of living here in the land of plenty and I want it now. :dunno:

I'm not watching P Diddy under any circumstances and he has nothing to do with anything anyway. The 2nd two of your vids don't work for me but that one about the 57 states interested me as I have heard this claim but had never seen it.Yes he says 57 states but I knew what he meant ,he means he was going to be going to 57 different primaries and caucuses running for dem nomination. They have primaries in places like Guam and puerto rico as well as all 50 states.Do you really beleive he doesn't know how many states there are??
And using rhetoric that sounds like someone else is nothing new or wrong eithier.
People may like Palin and her policys but she is no match for a Barak Obama intelligence wise or in any other way lol.It may sound Elitist but he is Harvard graduate and she went to community colleges.
In both her interviews her lack of depth in her answers is stunning. She just can't answer the questions as we saw in the clip I posted.

I have yet to hear obama answer ANY question without politician double talk and nonsense. Like I said before, nobody has given me ANY reason to seriously consider voting for barry!

He doesn't even make a good argument for HIMSELF.

I challenge you to name one politician who hasn't used "double talk" and "nonsense".

They're all actors, trying to perfect their role as the perfect candidate, with hopes to win over America's heart and become it's spokesperson.

Well there were more links but there's a limit and those links that don't work just search on youtube and you'll find a lot of Obama's messiong up when he's speaking,

Either way Republicans and Democrats and any other group like the "spin" stuff in their favor.

In public relations, spin is a usually pejorative term signifying a heavily biased portrayal in one's own favor of an event or situation; it is a euphemism for propaganda. While traditional public relations may also rely on creative presentation of the facts, "spin" often, though not always, implies disingenuous, deceptive and/or highly manipulative tactics. Politicians are often accused of spin by their political opponents.

Because of the frequent association between "spin" and press conferences (especially government press conferences), the room in which these take place is sometimes described as a spin room. A group of people who develop spin may be referred to as "spin doctors" who engage in "spin doctoring" for the person or group that hired them.

Now it's clear that McCain is very crafty and with this move he's put Obama on the spot. Let's see what happens tomorrow friday, does Obama gives in and postpone? or fearing that his plan is about to backfire McCain decides to attend it?

Hate to post twice in a row but just found out some info on this topic.

Both McCain and Obama returned to Washington on Thursday at the urging of President Bush, who invited them to a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House. But a session aimed at showing unity in resolving the financial crisis broke up with conflicts in plain view. McCain would not commit to supporting a plan worked out by congressional negotiators, said people from both parties who were briefed on the exchange.

McCain's campaign said the meeting "devolved into a contentious shouting match" and implied that Obama was at fault — on a day when McCain said he was putting politics aside to focus on the nation's financial problems. :fight:

"It should also be noted that Senate Bill S.190 was created to solve that problem, co-authored by John McCain. The following is from his speech on the Senate floor May 25, 2006 regarding S. 190 [109th], Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 Last Action:

“For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

“I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole. I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation. ”
–John McCain"

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

… Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

Check voting records...90% of Dems and 15% of Repubs voted to kill McCains bill. Dems are now trying to blame the Repubs for their own mess, this is not a Bush disaster but a Dem fiasco.
Typical...
Same as Palin is a dufus when she doesn't answer a question confidently; Biden is an experienced Senator who gets a lot completely wrong and no one is concerned he might be President...
The Dem Convention had 80,000 there and that was a sign Obama was truly a great leader; Palin has 60,000 show up for a rally and that was to be expected in a mostly Republican town...
Obamessiah Complex.

sorry for kinda offtopic question, I've already asked it in different topic about elections, but it was no reply. maybe this attempt will be more lucky?

I have a question about laws. Have no idea where to fing this information in brief. Please help me if you know, or give any links!

Who knows, what happened if one of presidential candidates would be assassinated, or dead due to some kinda illness before the election day?

Of course, I do not want this to happen, I just want to understand what does the law say about this hypothetical situation.

Would it be an automatic restart for the whole campaign? Or this candidate would be substituted with someone else from his party? What would happen with date of elections, and would be the results of primary "saved" for that substituted candidate?
or everyhting would be restarted from the very first point?

I don't know about the laws, but with the time and money dumped into campaigning, I would think it's last man standing. The opposition couldn't possibly polish up a candidate in whatever time is left before the election.

No.

He just is trying to take advantage of a bad situation to enhance his chances.

Something almost all politicians (unfortunately) would do.

McCain remains undecided about debate with Obama

WASHINGTON - Republican John McCain has yet to commit to participating in Friday night's scheduled debate with Democratic rival Barack Obama, tying his appearance to progress on a Wall Street bailout plan being negotiated by the Bush administration and congressional lawmakers.

McCain met briefly Friday morning with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., before heading to the office of House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. A close friend and supporter, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., appeared to lower the bar on what sort of agreement would satisfy McCain that sufficient progress had been made.

"What's more important than anything that when we go to Mississippi tonight, both candidates can say that the Congress is working, back in business, that we have an outline or proposal that will protect the taxpayer and save the country from financial Pearl Harbor, as Warren Buffet called it," Graham said on "Today" on NBC. "We are not there yet, but we will get there."

Obama said Thursday that he intended to travel to the University of Mississippi in Oxford, where the debate had long been scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. EDT. He tried to press McCain into showing up for the first of three scheduled debates between them, saying they should be able to handle the 90-minute forum and the financial crisis at the same time.

"Sen. McCain has no need to be fearful about a debate," Obama told reporters. "He's a person of strong opinions and he's been expressing them on the campaign trail."

Both McCain and Obama had returned to Washington on Thursday at the urging of President Bush, who invited them to a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House.

Democrats differed.

Meanwhile, debate preparations continued in Oxford, with streets blocked off and big TV screens set up on campus and near City Hall for large debate-watching parties.

Television network officials were left with the uncertainty of whether their Friday night programming would be the scheduled debate or something else arranged at the last minute. Pressed in an interview on the "CBS Evening News" about whether he would show, McCain responded: "I understand how important this debate is and I'm very hopeful, but I also have to put the country first."

Obama told NBC that, should the debate go on, he would raise the economy even though the focus was supposed to be foreign policy.

"It's one of the fundamental differences that I have with John McCain, and it's something that I think we need to explore in a debate format," Obama said. "We're only talking about 90 minutes here."

Remember when I said I should apologize?

EDIT: DO NOT HOTLINK

I LIEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

What are you talking about??? Get out of your mom's basement and go out there and make a living on anything...

More news on this subject from CNN website:
OXFORD, Mississippi (CNN) -- University of Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat said Friday morning that if GOP nominee McCain does not show for the first presidential debate at the school in Oxford, the format may include members of the audience to submit questions to the moderator, Jim Lehrer.

Workers put the finishing touches on the debate stage at the University of Mississippi on Thursday.

Lehrer would then pose the questions to Obama. It would take on a kind of town hall format, according to Khayat.

Khayat said he will recommend that to the Debate Commission, which would make the final decision.

The debate was to focus on foreign policy and national security, but the economic crisis is likely to be a dominant issue as well.

Whether McCain intends to participate is up in the air, but Democratic opponent Barack Obama said it's still on as far as he's concerned.

Obama will fly to Oxford on Friday, according to his campaign.
