Government Shuts Down As Congress Fails To Reach Spending Agreement

This isn't a garden variety pet issue this is a fundamental change to the way Americans live their lives. Better to resist now than to let something become a part of people's lives only to find out that it is a clusterfuck. Stop trying to play the role of mister compassionate when there are so many other ways that Democrats are hurting families taxes being number 1 on the list. That hurts familes far more than any shutdown ever could.
You make Mariah look like a positively stellar intellect in comparison.

This law is going to be a clusterfuck. The Repubs want a one year delay . In the long term this law will hurt far more people than it helps. And in the process destroy 1/6 of our economy.

If you think "Romneycare" is going to do that overnight than you're delusional. And the Republicans don't want a one year delay, their initial measure was a complete repeal, and when that failed they asked for a delay so they can continue to push for repeal. They will NEVER accept it as shown by FORTY-TWO USELESS VOTES AGAINST IT. If the program actually doesn't work it should be rather easy to get rid of, no? Everyone will want it gone. Beyond this, you believe it will cause a problem, you don't know this. The shutdown is causing a problem. You're advocating an ACTUAL determent to avoid a HYPOTHETICAL one which could be averted at a later date anyway were it to hold true.

This isn't a garden variety pet issue this is a fundamental change to the way Americans live their lives.

So is gay marriage and gun control and abortion rights. Should the Dems shut down the government until the GOP folds every time one of these pet issues pop up?

Stop trying to play the role of mister compassionate when there are so many other ways that Democrats are hurting families taxes being number 1 on the list. That hurts familes far more than any shutdown ever could.

Yes, because taxes are evil, and Republicans have never raised taxes, and of course taxes don't pay for a great many of the services that the American people expect, and taxes now aren't spectacularly low compared to the past, including times during which the economy was booming (you may recall it faltered while the Bush tax cuts were in full effect).

$22 an hour which would match the rate of cost of living.

and please BC tell me what the republicans want done? they want to keep the health system as it is, an enormous failure that is 1/6 of our economy. you do realize our health care system ranks #37 in the world right? we spend more than all of the others combined, and it's 37th. You do realize that nearly 1 million americans a year have to declare bankruptcy because of medical bills, but the number in france, england, switzerland etc is a big fat ZERO. how can you drive an economy with so many people who cannot get credit? how can people buy a home with stinking credit and enormous debt?

the republicans say "let them go to the ER" well guess who's been paying that bill? The tax payers.

the republicans couldn't give a shit about families unless it's a family with millions or billions of dollars. because if they did, they would understand that working people in the US cannot afford the current health care system. you voted for fuckhole romney and he had a nearly identical health care plan not so long ago that was wildly successful in Massachusetts did he not?

Is anyone else tired of Vodka Victimz new username? Dumbfuck says he is leaving the board only to come back as this brain dead incarnation. And Milano I know just a little about bankruptcy and the causes as I have been doing them for over 20 years. The number of bankruptcies I have filed over the years due to medical bills is very small compared to the majority which is just a plain lack of financial discipline. And bankrupting the country is not the answer to avoiding bankruptcy for individuals. So tired of you making this uninformed and flat out stupid case for it. How did you settle on 22 an hour? Since it helps the economy so much why not make it 50 or 100 an hour?

Oh fuck! Did you just say to match the cost of living? GUESS WHAT CONTRIBUTES TO THAT INCREASE? Government mandated wage increases. Companies never pay more when government raises taxes or wages. They just cut employees or raise prices. So let's raise it to 200 an hour.

Just to be clear...

This law is going to be a clusterfuck. [...] In the long term this law will hurt far more people than it helps.

By your logic...

Why are you bitching about it if we are shooting ourselves in the foot? First rule in politics is don't say anything if your adversary is commiting suicide.

... shouldn't you be thrilled? Since, you know, you apparently believe that all that matters is that the other party looks bad. If Obamacare is the catastrophe you make it out to be than shouldn't be thrilled to see it go through and hurt the Democrats since apparently that's what you care about?

Also...

This horrible law will be before the Supremes again before you know it and whether Obama gets his head out of his ass sooner rather than later the Repubs are going to continue to fight this tooth and nail until Obama caves.

It seems that most Republicans are up in arms about Obama and Syria, because he claimed he'd use force if chemical weapons were used. They criticize because he "hurts America" and "looks weak" since he supposedly caved there instead of invading (despite the fact that Syria is now giving up their chemical weapons and Obama got Putin to do all the dirty work for him). They seem to think that he needed to hold strong and get into another costly war and get Americans killed instead of deciding to "cave".

So what, Republicans think he should cave now? They want to make the President and America look weak to foreign powers, like Obama and the country can be pushed around?

Why is it that the political right doesn't seem capable of anything resembling consistency?

If we use Happy's silly argument that a state implemented system is good for the nation as a whole then let's adapt Arizona's immigration law while we are at it. And now he is saying that if the ACA doesn't work we will just throw it out. What is the last entitlement that the Fed just walked amay from when it was exposed as a miserable failure? Answer none and it will be the same for this fucking law.

I was going to jump on the near-sighted comment above. Then I said fuck it.

FY Mayhem. If those horses don't get their federally subsidized feed they may have to buy it on the streets.

I don't know if it is that condition you have that you says makes you weird sometimes kicking in or what but the Republicans have not been beating the drums of war against Syria.

If we use Happy's silly argument that a state implemented system is good for the nation as a whole then let's adapt Arizona's immigration law while we are at it.

Who said that I said this was a good law? Personally I support single-payer. Regardless of whether or not it's a good law, it's the law that passed. You'll notice that I've stated that if the Republicans can repeal it, they're welcome to (but that they shouldn't bother tossing appeals at a time when they know full well that they can't pass them, as it's an irresponsible waste of time and money). This, "Wah! Imma take my ball and go home if you don't cave and give me what I want!" bullshit is just that; bullshit. And you fucking know it. If the Dems pulled this shit over one of their pet projects you'd freak the fuck out and call it a travesty.

And now he is saying that if the ACA doesn't work we will just throw it out. What is the last entitlement that the Fed just walked amay from when it was exposed as a miserable failure? Answer none and it will be the same for this fucking law.

Except that there was already a (broken) system in place, so while "entitlements" may never be removed, they can be changed and replaced. In fact the ACA is doing just that. So if it sucks; you fix it or replace it with something that works. That's what this is, an attempt to fix something that wasn't working that the GOP didn't seem to give a shit about. For all their objections to the ACA, with all their admissions that were problems with various aspects of the health care system in place when the issue was on the table Republicans offered nothing constructive. It wasn't until now that they brought out their Republican Study Committee’s American Healthcare Reform Act.

If Obamacare is as bad as you say it is then we will see Republicans sweep into power. We will see them implement their plan because again, if it's the travesty you believe, they'll have the votes.

...but the Republicans have not been beating the drums of war against Syria.

The opinion of the majority of Republicans seems to be that Obama looked "weak" and shouldn't have backed down. To the point where Obama appeared on ABC and refuted the claims that he was "weak" on Syria.

So much in such a short time.

Meals on Wheels will get their food reimbursement checks when the government opens back up. No one is going to starve. There's a woman living across from me that gets this. Even if she didn't and needed it, I'd make larger pans of food and give her half. Turn the panic button off.

This whole idea that USA is such a horror house of medicine is ridiculous. We do the research and development and testing and set the highest standards in the world. People fly from around the globe just to test our findings. For some it is their last hope. Sell that #37 shit to someone else. What is the difference between when we were #1 and now? The cost. Why does it cost more? Because the good people that decided to devote their profession to making sick people better have to jump through so many hoops. When I was growing up we could call a doctor and get fixed. If you didn't have insurance he could work it out with cash on the follow up visits. Today it's go to the emergency room. Sit next to that kid that broke his arm playing baseball. People coughing up blood. I don't need to go on a list with these people. They need emergency care. All I want is a doctor that knows a bit of my medical history to look at me. They can't do that, too much risk. Some violation of someone's rules could give them a hard time. I'll show you a bill for $1500 to my insurance company OR pay $500 cash. Why should my insurance company pay triple the price? And don't think my $500 isn't inflated for what had to be done.

Oh, that's right, those other countries offer free medical treatment. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Check out what is raked in taxes to pay for this. Some countries grab 60% of your check as a working man before the locals take theirs. Let the government allow our doctors to do their jobs and earn their livings without worrying about lawsuits and regulations.

Edit: U.S. Postal Service Inspector General. The operation was created to detect and report fraud and waste in the operations of the U.S. Postal Service. 19 people can now do the job of over 1100. I'm going to look up how many people are paid to look into space to detect aliens.

So we fix a broken system with a worse system? Look dude it is nice if everyone has the things that they want and need but not once has the federal government ever gotten into the business of furnishing things to people has it ever worked.

I have the best healthcare money can buy. I work my ass off for everything I have. If you don't have what you want in life then work harder.

I don't need the government to provide anything for me but a highway to get to and fro to work and national defense. Again this law was passed without republican support and it damn sure wouldn't be in existance if repubs had been in the majority in 2010. They are now and I stand with them in their opposition to this shit. They can't even get the website to work without glitches. Blame it on traffic. Guess what Google and Wikh weren't hanging up last week and they get far more traffic than healthcare.gov. Then Obama starts comparing the glitches to Apple. lol Guess president dumbfvck nobody is mandating people buy iPhones. Then there is the whole people are ready to answer your questions in 150 different languages. No we need the questions answered in 2 and I am being generous with espanol. This is headed to giving coverage to non citizens.

So to the Republicans that are against this I say keep fighting the good fight. Liberalism is truely a mental disorder.

Last I checked Canada pays less per capita and a lower percentage of it's GDP on health care. Sure there's higher taxes, but it doesn't all go to health care (some of it goes to things like infrastructure... 11 percent of all US highway bridges are falling apart and structurally deficient).

When this runaway government is shutdown then they aren't intruding more in my life. They can stay shutdown as far as I am concerned. The IRS aren't conducting audits now either. It's a beautiful time to be an American.

...but not once has the federal government ever gotten into the business of furnishing things to people has it ever worked.

Sure. The government can't do anything.

You know, that might change if it wasn't impeded by hyper-partisan bullshit.

I have the best healthcare money can buy. I work my ass off for everything I have. If you don't have what you want in life then work harder.

How very Christian of you.

And of course I'm sure you've never had any advantages at all in your life. I'm sure you're not male. You're not white. You're ugly. You're disabled. You came from a poor family on welfare. The schools in your neighborhood were understaffed and underfunded. Etc. etc. etc.

I'm sure you've never had any advantages that perhaps others haven't had, and thus you truly do understand the plight of all people everywhere and the challenges they face in life.

They can't even get the website to work without glitches. Blame it on traffic. Guess what Google and Wikh weren't hanging up last week and they get far more traffic than healthcare.gov.

So you want the government to buy server capacity equal to Google, something they won't need long term? How is that a fiscally conservative move?

Then there is the whole people are ready to answer your questions in 150 different languages. No we need the questions answered in 2 and I am being generous with espanol. This is headed to giving coverage to non citizens.

Because people like, say, non-English speaking refugees who have been taken in and given citizenship in a humanitarian effort don't need health care?

By the way, you're a refugee too, right? Wow, man. You truly are an inspirational story. If you can make it ANYONE can! You should tell your story to the single mom who's husband died and was too poor to afford life insurance, so she's now working three jobs and barely making enough money to keep a roof over her head and feed her kids. You just march right up to her and say, "Hey bitch, work fucking harder you lazy cunt!" and watch as her whole life turns around.

Yea, I tried the link to medical.gov to get a quote and got a come back later page. Is this part of the government shutdown? I'll check the list.

I'm black from the waist down. I didn't grow up rich. My father was a enlisted Marine and my mother was the first one in her family to go to college and eventually got a job as a US Army civilian employee that earned a top secret clearance. When I was 12 I cared for my younger siblings and learned to cook and help with their homework until my mom got home from work and my dad was serving overseas. I worked mowing yards and even had a job at a fish house and golf course clearing ditches with a slingblade. In college i worked hanging drywall and washing dishes. i also played guitar in a band sometimes not getting home until 4 and having to be in class at 9. I know what hard work is like and how it rewards you.

Fucking refugees? Refu fucking gees? that is the best you can come up with? if you can prove that only 1 million of those covered of the 150 languages are political prisoners and naturalized refugees i will shut up about it. this law is nothing but a way to create a whole new entitlement class that will show their gratitude by voting democrat. and for the servers yes make the purchase. We already have the most sophisticate IT infrastructure in the world we way as well make sure they have proper access to the site. What is coming next is Obama computers and Obama internet access for the poor people that need that to tap into the government programs.

I didn't grow up rich.

You also didn't grow up poor by the sounds of it. Nor black. Nor in a bad neighborhood with a terrible school system. Nor disabled. Nor any other number of things. While you may not have had a silver spoon you also haven't had a lot of the shit that some people have had to deal with. You weren't disadvantaged.

Not everyone can say the same. You don't need help. Good for you. Some people do, legitimately.

Acts 20:35
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Hebrews 13:16
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Luke 12:33
Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

Proverbs 19:17
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

Some of the far right speak of natural disasters being God's wrath over gays and abortion. Odd they don't seem to entertain the idea that God could disapprove of denying the needy...

So... no child left behind, but fuck people who need health care if they're refugees and there aren't a million of them?

And don't spend money on making sure that people can be served without any potential language barriers, but do spend it on servers that will be mostly barren in the near future after the initial rush is over? Interesting.

As far as the government providing computer and Internet access... they already do that at most libraries last I checked. So they've already got you covered. Want to close libraries too? Cut their funding?

And every one of scriptures mean we as indivduals should help others through charities. It does not mean that we are to work hard only to give it to the government so that they can give it out to to those that will increase their voter base. When communities band together in charities that do far more good than the government ever has. How much do you personally give to charity each year?
