I may of sort of pleadged $100...in the first twelve hours into it...and that is because I couldn't get on any earlier due to work. The gelatinous cube is one of my favorites of the bunch. I did read an online thing that shows how to make your own gelatinous cubes out of old clear dice holders, like the ones you buy chessex dice in.
I have never used citadel paints. I'm pretty new to mini painting. To be honest I'm thinking about going in a different direction that most mini painters wouldn't, and getting regular liquid artist acrylic paint and thinking it to how I want, not the cheap craft paints though. Most mini painters would probably rather stick to the mini paint. From what I've heard the paint is pretty comparable between reaper and citadel with generally more people liking the citadel paint. Then again I don't know how much I can put faith into the opinion of the fanboys that often use citadel stuff. For what it's worth I've haven't heard anything bad about the Reaper paint. One thing to keep in mind is that the bones minis don't basecoat well so you will probably have to use strait paint out of the bottle for it for it. The bones material is hydrophobic and makes water based material bead and separate on it. Also be careful because a lot of primer doesn't react well to it, and will leave a tacky feel that takes a long time to dry. I read around and found that The Army Painter primer works well with it and that's what I have been using. I like to use primer just because it lets me choose the base color to lay everything over and it make the first coat of paint go on better. A lot of people just start of adding paint to the bones though.
With the artist acrylics (I'm going to get Golden acrylics) I can buy bigger amounts of about a dozen base colors and mix my own as I'm more used to mixing them. That's just me. Most people would still probably suggest paint meant for minis. I don't mind the Reaper paint I got, it's just too expensive for me for how long it last, and that's even taken into account that after I get every color base on the paint put on after that is usually thinned out to 1 parts per 4 in my thinning solution for layering and 1 in 10 for washes. A red dragon I painted used up pretty much half the red paint in the bottle by itself. I can't image what the damage something like your Cthulhu would do. You might use an entire green bottle.
