dungeons and dragons (D&D) anyone?

Re: dungeons and dragons (D&D) anyone?

Is this your groups first time going to clear out a castle? If yes, maybe you don't need to do anything fancy then, because hopefully that by itself would crate a special moment in a RPGer's life. Castles are cool by themselves all you need to think about is what you and others find so awesome about them in real life and make a lot of those points clear in the game, even if they are mundane. Describe the grandeur of what a famous fantasy castle feels like and how even if normal elements can feel larger than life. Maybe describe how many heroes of the past went in and meet their end in it, how forbidding it is, and how this might be the step where they characters really have to put on their big boy pants because to be at this points means they are in the big leagues. Then you can add in all the non-mundane stuff from fantasy like all those secret rooms, traps, illusions and other things to make it even greater.

they are on a death ride to the castle right now. a black wagon with a couple of red eyed black steeds pulled up to give them a lift.

they know its strahd's ride, and its leading them through the most dangerous parts of the wilderness. for instance, it stopped in the middle of a patch of forest filled with elves turned zombie. it rained arrows on them and when they finally killed off the last ones, the wagon opened back up for them to get back in.

did they do it? yep.

next path is the mountain path leading to the castle.

suggestions on the mountains? monsters? traps?

Squirrels, of DOOM, and also, IN SPAAAAAACE!

Mountain path you say? Hmmm, you could always have some falling rocks at some point.

...preferably not the kind that instantly kill your players though.

i kinda feel like joining a game online. never played online before.

sounds like it could be fun. im itching for a game.

I wish I could do more online, but having a slow connection kind of limits what I can do.

For my end of the year present I bought myself a ton of modules and other short adventures that were on sale. I also pledged for a few RPG kickstarters.

...Oh and I also ordered another pound of dice and another dice bag. It has been a while since I got any more dice. I have a feeling once I start playing more dice will slowly go missing baring me going obsessive about people giving them back to me. It's better to have some cheap and if necessary disposable ones on hand that I won't be bothered as much if they are lost.

Something I have just discovered is Game Science Dice. I don't use anything but them anymore. They are almost as accurate as Vegas Dice are by law

yeah, my girl owns a couple of sets of those now, we gifted one of our players a set for her birthday as well, and i own one clear d20 of them.

they are great control dice. very pretty too.

I don't own a set of those dice. I might if they were easier to find or had numbers already put on them. It doesn't help I think they look plain. For the most part most normal dice are good enough. Once in a extremely great while there will be a weird non-cheat dice that's really uneven and unfair, but if the vast majority normal dice have a slight variation where the most likely number comes up a dozen or so times more than the least likely number after thousands of rolls it's fair enough not to worry about. If somebody uses more than one dice on a rotating business it's even less likely to have any significant impact. If I ever got too worried about it I can always go to electronic dice rolling programs with a good random number generator, but that takes away from the fun of rolling dice.

I know a lot of folks that have the game science dice. But they've had to ink the numbers themselves and that's too much faff for me. As the DM, I really don't care if my dice are accurate or not. ;-) It's usually in the players best interest that they roll like crap anyways.

And, I'm busy writing more paranoia scenarios since Anders and I have Conception UK coming up at the end of the month. I have a lot of props I need to make. ;-\ At least my sister in law gave me several huge storage crates for christmas, so I have a way to transport them. ;-)

Or you could just let your husband transport the props together with the giant pot of soup again.

its easy to "ink" the gamescience dice. i get a crayon, rub it in to the number without giving a turd about all the excess wax everywhere, then wipe away the mess and all that's left is coloured in numbers.

also, petra needs to let me in her paranoia game.

Re: dungeons and dragons (D&D) anyone?

Excess wax on the die would probably make them off more than most dice are if it creates a sticky surface on them.

As a player or an NPC? If it's the latter I would be worried about what Anders would try to do with us if we were in there.

no no, you wipe off the excess. since its smooth, all the excess wipes off and the wax in the grooves of the numbers remains.

i have no idea how to play paranoia, or what its even about. i know i could go bing it, but i want it to remain a surprise. you never know, one day i might play it.
