Oh okay, I am not a big fan of fantasy fiction atm, but thats cus i get my fill elsewhere :) I do love sci fi novels. I have the dragonlance animated DVD. Its okay, a bit of nostalgia although its modern.

i picked up dragonlance at a thrift store not knowing what it was. it was after i started it that i realized it was a wizards of the coast affiliate.

i didnt know they made dvds too. hmm..

I should warn you. The animated Dragonlance DVDs are almost universally reviled by fans of the setting...or pretty much anybody else that watches them.

It's possible that my brother might be getting a better internet connection out where I live in the next few months and I might be able to benefit from it. If that happens in the near future would it be possible for me to join in somehow after that happens. I would be very interested in playing table top RPGs again, and even more so about actually being the player and not a DM for once. I'm interested in playing most anything as long as I don't have to pay a lot of cash out of hand for it. (Not that I haven't plaid a good amount for my other stuff but if I really invest in something I would want to make sure I get a good use or at least enjoyment out of it.) I have almost all the physical hardcover 3.5 D&D books, most of the major Pathfinder ones, most of the d20 Modern, d20 Future, and d20 post apocalyptic ones, Midnight, Star Wars d20 3.0 and Star Wars Saga stuff, and some other things on PDF, but like I said I'm not opposed to playing most things, even if most of what I own is d20 stuff. I also had at one time or played a lot of old RPGs in the past like old D&D editions, Mechwarrior, and Shadowrun,.

However if it's cheap or at least reasonable I would probably be willing to spend a little for a book or two of some other rules set if it doesn't have a reference document or some other thing they give out for free for the core rules and pay for a good VTT program that will benefit me. I don't have anything against any system (with maybe the exception of D&D 4th edition and LARP stuff which can't really be done over the computer anyhow.) so I'm pretty open about what I play. If I had my choice I might want to go with something more sci-fi after so many years of playing fantasy in the past or maybe even a super type of RPG. The whole Necessary Evil things sounds cool also even if I don't play villains or evil people that; that sounds unique however. Any way I wouldn't be picky about what I play, especially if I didn't have to spend a lot before I found out how much I like it, and it would be nice to start doing role playing games again.

I don't have an issue with you joining later. I'm planning the first game simply as a one shot so people can get the feel. If folks want to continue on with a campaign (and I have time to run it, perhaps on a bi-weekly basis) then they get to choose what to play.

I'm a huge fan of Necessary Evil and it's a very easy setting to bring characters in and out of. I ran it as a meetup campaign for a local rpg club and I had 3 regular players and I'd get 3 brand new folk every month. Easy to teach them the system and easy to bring a character in since it's intended to be mission based...though I had a set of players that eeked out plot point 2 for over 6 months by getting side tracked.

They even let loose a mechanical cyber dragon thingy...

Hopefully things go well this time for me, and I can get faster than dial-up speeds in the near future. Often things eventually fall through when it comes to something that might benefit me, so we'll see what the future holds. I never get my hopes up. In fact I'm kind of anticipating something going wrong, especially with something I'm not that involved with or paying for. I would normally be willing to try it on dial-up, if it was even possible, if it wasn't for the fact I don't want to be "that guy" that always screws up things for other people in online games or takes enjoyment away from other people because he's always getting booted from the system or others are always waiting on him. I don't imagine the bits that get passed for dice rolls or positioning info on a map would be that bad, but loading up a map or something like that would be a disaster, especially if everybody had to wait on you to before they went.

As far as the cyber dragon, I suppose one of the benefits of being a villain is being less worried about a little collateral damage here and there, and if a terrible monstrosity is loosened upon the world somehow in the course of your activities....well sometimes that stuff happens. :dunno: :1orglaugh

haha, i used to play an online game called warheads se back in the day. i had one of the first emachines out there, a cyrix 266 processor with like no ram. the game was so simple and low graphic but i would always lag so much even on a cable connection because of my ram. it shouldve taken a second to load normally but it would be 10-20 seconds and people would gimme shit.

lucky there was in-game chat that i could tell em to fuck off before i killed their fucking asses. but yeah, its no fun to lag.

btw, in my own quest for tools to help myself figure out the game, especially leveling up, i found a really good excel based character sheet. its the "wiesbaden" one thats pretty nifty. of course this ones for 4e, but they have some 3.5 files as well.

Is PCGen still around and is it still free? I wouldn't be surprised if they have something for forth edition now if it is.

There is also Herolab. Although I don't know if it supports 4th edition or not. I'm also pretty sure it cost a bit of money.

LARP is huge over here in europe. And none of that bamboo or kite spar covered with a pool noodle shit...nope. For these guys it's latex covered metal weapons that Americans would never allow in their games. ;-) Pretty damn satisfying to give a good whollup with one of those weapons.

That's also the reason I haven't larped over here...I currently don't have the finances for weapons/garb. Though I do have a sewing machine again so you never know...

I have a feeling you might get some natural bonuses from your costume when your opponents are distracted by it. ;)

now that i gotta see. it also gives me ideas... *evil grin*

I was also a necromancer (gotta love games that allow cross classing). So people knew better to try something with the town whore. :D

I would think having the past examples potentially walking around of past people that didn't follow the rules would but everybody else on their best behavior. Plus, ready supply of material for continued magical experiments if they crossed you. It sounded like you had a good operation. :1orglaugh
