i really need to find some people that id be comfortable with around my skill level.

Nobody is going to make fun of you. We all had to start somewhere. Hell, I have 3 newbie gamers in my sunday gaming group.

Why is nobody going to make fun of you? Because we WANT you to game. Our hobby will die out if there isn't people to buy the books after all. ;-)

Yeah its truth, rpg gaming isnt easy just to start so people are really friendly.

If it makes you feel any better I find it a very rare occurrence where even the most expert and knowledgeable of gamers let alone DMs who have to keep track of more don't make some kind of mistake or keep from forgetting something in a gamming session. I should also point out from experience that making mistakes is the best way to learn from them and remember them in the future.

If it bothers you that bad you could always go with a simple character and keep it simple in game by doing what you think the character would do and not worry about manipulating the finer points of the rules and the potential abilities that character could have until you get better at knowing what they will do. You Might even be able to pick up some passive abilities that you have to think less about even though they are always helping you. A character that’s simple mechanically in the rules also doesn’t also have to be simple as far as personality or personal development either if you want that.

You could always ask the person running the game if they think You Might be able to do something if your not sure of or what your odds of success would be if your character should have a good idea of that.

As far as getting the VTT I will think about it. I’m still on dial-up so even if it would still would work, which I'm still not sure of, downloading the actual program and the Savage Worlds rules (if it’s on PDF somewhere) would still take some time unless I can get a chance to go to somebody else's place to do it, and I will have to check to see if I have enough spare cash lying around.

Plus it is always rewarding to get fresh input into the game. People who have played RPGs for ages tend to play a bit mechanical.

Knowing all the rules, you know how to milk situations for maximum effect, which makes for bad role playing. Problem of 'Metagaming'

Fresh ***** revives the game. In the best moments, you forget about the rules and really plunge into the experience and be that sorcerer, orc, cyborg, gnome

So I fired up FG and it's updating (probably done by now). Tonight I'll see about getting it configured.

I plan on running the Savage Worlds Necessary Evil since I have the ruleset, which means that everything you need will be accessable in the library on the FG desktop.

Of course, I can do just a straight D&D game as well, 3.5 since I actually know it and have the ruleset on FG.

I think someone actually did a Paranoia ruleset...must check up on that one. I have an Alice in Wonderland parody in my head I'd love to make into a scenerio.

Alice in wonderland is cool with me, d&d 3e is fine if i can be cleric, and i wouldnt say no to a superhero type system (doesnt have to marvel by any means)

It's possible that my ******* might be getting a better internet connection out where I live in the next few months and I might be able to benefit from it. If that happens in the near future would it be possible for me to join in somehow after that happens. I would be very interested in playing table top RPGs again, and even more so about actually being the player and not a DM for once. I'm interested in playing most anything as long as I don't have to pay a lot of cash out of hand for it. (Not that I haven't plaid a good amount for my other stuff but if I really invest in something I would want to make sure I get a good use or at least enjoyment out of it.) I have almost all the physical hardcover 3.5 D&D books, most of the major Pathfinder ones, most of the d20 Modern, d20 Future, and d20 post apocalyptic ones, Midnight, Star Wars d20 3.0 and Star Wars Saga stuff, and some other things on PDF, but like I said I'm not opposed to playing most things, even if most of what I own is d20 stuff. I also had at one time or played a lot of old RPGs in the past like old D&D editions, Mechwarrior, and Shadowrun,.

However if it's cheap or at least reasonable I would probably be willing to spend a little for a book or two of some other rules set if it doesn't have a reference document or some other thing they give out for free for the core rules and pay for a good VTT program that will benefit me. I don't have anything against any system (with maybe the exception of D&D 4th edition and LARP stuff which can't really be done over the computer anyhow.) so I'm pretty open about what I play. If I had my choice I might want to go with something more sci-fi after so many years of playing fantasy in the past or maybe even a super type of RPG. The whole Necessary Evil things sounds cool also even if I don't play villains or evil people that; that sounds unique however. Any way I wouldn't be picky about what I play, especially if I didn't have to spend a lot before I found out how much I like it, and it would be nice to start doing role playing games again.

I would but on my dail up I don't think it is possible. :(

dial up still exists?!

With the exception of some satellite based system, which all of them suck badly and I would never get, there is no other option for where I'm at. There is good news though; it's speculated we may have some form of WiMax system going into the area in about 3-4 years time. Then again the way things are run and how overruns and delays always happens it's going to be more like 6 or 7 years away, and I still have to hope it works where my house is at. It still will be much more expensive than cable or dsl for a fraction of the bandwidth, and will be marketed to people that don't make very good income, but within the next decade we might finally have something out here for once.

thats crazy. we were at a deadzone once too. but luckily they installed the fiber optics for cable shortly after we arrived.

whats also nuts is i havent had a phone landline my entire adult life.

For anyone interested in D&D and you girls especially, if you don't want to plunge yourself into a campaign due to effort and time, cus it can be a lot of effort i wanted to recommend this book. I have not read it yet, but its on my reading list and should hopefully get to start it soon..

Confessions of a Part-time Sorceress by Shelly Mazzanoble

anyone read it?

im reading the first dragonlance book and another called dragonworld from 1979.

both good so far.

Oh okay, I am not a big fan of fantasy fiction atm, but thats cus i get my fill elsewhere :) I do love sci fi novels. I have the dragonlance animated DVD. Its okay, a bit of nostalgia although its modern.
