Yeh but England are very arrogant, its the same in cricket and rugby

Examples please. I don't mind England receiving critisism, but you could at least have the common courtesy to make it constructive.

I find your statment to be very arrogant. It sounds like you are critisising a whole country for the actions of a few.

I would be interested to hear an expanded explaination, instead of a one off comment that covers a sentence.

Please show some respect.

Example? ok, England is the only team who played 4 BAD matches and they still consider themselves as the favorites.

I respect some members here who can critisize their own team but there are a few who just loudly diss others and that's the main reason why I hate fans.

We might have shown them to the world, but the world has passed us by. In football we have great players, but make very poor choices at the wrong time. With a dinosaur system at the very top in the F.A commitee, a lot of out of touch business men in charge. Instead of football people who still have a lot to do with the game and people in it. Rugby since winning the world cup in 2003 we have gone well down the ladder. Bad players and bad management need a complete overhaul from bottom up.

....don't forget Tennis, too - spot the Brit who makes it to the next round at Wimbledon.....

That isn't arrogance, that's hope. England are born losers, that's why we nearly pooed ourselves when we won the rugby. Have you missed the last 40 years of World Cup football when England have been knocked out numerous times on penalties?

Delusional yes, arrogant no.

Now take it back.

YOU CAN DO IT!

I want the English media to shut up once and for all! I am fed up with the lot of them. What do they think England are?????????

Oh Wayne Rooney this and that, England this England that! etc.etc. WTF! Do they have any shame whatsoever? England have been shite so far in this world cup and have in a way disgraced our country with their performances so far.

Make no mistake, I do support England but I am fed up with the way our media go on about this.

The only way they will shut up is if ECUADOR beat them today.

I live in England and agree...every time theres a major tournament there is always a media hype about England...no matter what the sport..and for those few weeks there is hardly anything in the newspapers about real world issues. Although im a great fan of football, i would like to see England kicked out of the tournament so we can focus on more important issues.

It also amazes me how pissed off an England fan gets when a person critisizes the team...Grow up people!!

Think Baltacha will. Perhaps our Canadian might win a game. Some random nobody has heard of will win a match, be hailed as a new sporting hero then get thumped and removed from the memory.

Ahem, I have yet to hear an English fan or media source claim we are outright favourites, one of the favourites yes, but not clear favs.

Oh and an Aussie earlier on claiming the English are arrogant when it comes to sport, now I have heard everything, 5-0 wasn't Glenn Mcgrath predicted? :thefinger

Nikkala made me do it!
I guess this would be a good place for a Yank to ask a dumb question ... :shy:

Can one of you Brits explain the "Come On England" thing? Earlier today I read that it comes from a song made for Euro 2004, but for some reason I think that's too simple.

:helpme:

Um, as in when the crowd in the stadium chant Come on England? If so then it's just a reguarly used chant by all sorts of clubs and countries.

From the perspective of a Scotsman I can say I'm well and truelly sick of englands participation in the world cup and Im looking forward to seeing them lose, preferably in a humiliating fashion.
I'm not a football fan but do follow the world cup from a "what was the score last night?" standpoint.
But when a country books their own victory celebration before the tournament has even begun, what does that say?
And now its a case that if you openly decry england and voice a wish to see them lose its considered racism towards them. That pisses me off to no end,two countries with a history like ours and they wanna play the racism card? Its like support england or else, you try saying that to one of my countrymen and your advice will be redirected to the orifice of your choosing.

Does anyone ENJOY watching that England national team play??
ANYONE?

I do.

I thought England played reasonably well. They had very little trouble keeping the ball.

Ecuador weren't any kind of a threat in the second half.

We won!! :nanner:

It's time to face the truth: That was pure luck! The British football is totally overrated - yes ok fine, you've invented the game and you won one international title 40 years ago - by the way: With two irregular goals! But even the best theoretical reputation is worthless if you can't proof it whenever it's necessary. Instead of a sovereign performance of fine football art, your team delivered only poor excuses and the claim that they could play better ... maybe when they are in the right mood or without the heat or the opponents. Their game seems to be a weak adoption of the german strategy during the WC 2002. Just stay in there without any greater effort and gain time to reach the finals. However this time it won't work because they don't have the lottery luck on their side: In the next rounds they will face Portugal and Brazil and it's not very likely that they will survive these clashes. And even if they're comming through - against all chances - they will suffer their personal Wurst-Bier-Sauerkraut-Lederhosen-Blitzkrieg-nightmare against Germany.

It's time to say Goodbye England! :wave2: Sorry mates, I think that's the curse of Wembley.

The thing is the draw was on their side: They got possibly the easiest group )maybe except Gorup A), they got the weakest team to qualify to the second round and now they are getting Portugal without Costinha and, most importantly, without Deco. It's amazing that England CAN get to the Semi-Final WITHOUT ONE DECENT GAME.
I'm not sure what's Brazil's draw is but it is possible that they'd get knocked out in the quarter finals and England will somehow manage to beat whoever beat them and maybe, just maybe, they will win the cup while sucking.

I consider myself objective since I'm a fan of Italy and good football (I know it clashes :1orglaugh ), before this cup I didn't care for Germany much but they play well so I like them, I've never seen Ivory Coast but they played well so I like them.

I think the abuse British football has taken in htis thred is harsh. Yes England haven't won a trophy in 40 years but Scotlnad has won 2 in the last 20. In fact we won the Kirin cup just a matter of months ago after humping Bulgaria 5-1 then taking a 0-0 with Japan. Football was invented in Aberdeen according to recent studies. So because we ade it, that means we can change teh rules to suit ourselves. It's not our fault if everyone else plays the game wrong.:D
