Classic rock blows. Do you agree?

No, I think some people are just a tad annoyed by your ATTITUDE towards it, and your self righteousness...but most people...not all, but most people can live with, "I think", you however tend to say things like "it is". Had you expressed this as an opinion, and not a matter of fact.

Actually if you read the first post there was a lot of "I" and "me" in there, which would tend to indicate that she was relating things from her perspective, her own opinion. She even opens with asking people if they agree, which you don't usually do with facts because facts are facts and not something that you look for consensus on.

One of the unwritten commandments around here is: Never put "Do You Agree" in a thread title and expect people to agree with you. :nono:

By "around here" I assume you don't mean FreeOnes and actually mean the Internet as a whole. Because there are three omnipresent things on the Internet: porn, joke topics that usually aren't funny, and arguing.

. 50 Cent grates on my last nerve, even his commercial make me switch channels. Awful actor...Vanilla Ice gets an Oscar compared to Curtis.

Sigh...I DO like me some nickleback, tho. How You Remind Me has me shouting along and wanting to hit something...in a just a bit worked up kinda way. And Photograph is fine...most Nickleback has the same or similar sound and so on...I'd sure get tired soon enough.

This thread would be incomplete without some Texas music. Although I love rock 'n' roll, most of the what I listen to these days is stuff like this:

I could post a shitload of other songs and artists that fit this genre. Anyway, you get the idea. I'm thinking Jaana might like this?? :dunno: ;) :D

On occasion,I listen to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. But...only someone without a soul can listen to The Texas Troubadour (Brother Ernie) do "Waltz Across Texas" and not smile a little bit. Or a lot...a beautiful song that touches on the soul of love, and fun to dance to.

And then there's Battle of Evermore by Zepplin... :)

So i'm findi8ng what i've always determined to be "classic rock" isn't what you all consider it to be. I guess what I'm finding is that what i ACTUALLY hate is late 70s and 80s rock(for the most part). I'm confused now, because a lot of the bands you're all mentioning are, in my mind, rock and roll - which a lot of the bands I like DO have influences from - but I always thought that was seperate from what was considered classic rock.

It's interesting how genres are, though. and how one genre can represent two completely different groups of music to two different people. if i told you one of my favorite genres of music was emo you'd think i was talking about thishorrid nonsense:

when in reality, what i actually like is this:

And if i told you that I liked pop punk, you'd probably think i meant this horrid nonsense:

when in reality, I mean this:

It's whatever, though. This thread was meant to be more fun than anything and you're all getting serious.

Exactly. There are tons of classic rock bands and what some people consider to be classic rock, like someone mentioned Metallica for instance, is not classic rock. Metallica is far from it.

Here's some examples of artists in the classic rock genre. Huge range:

Joe Walsh
Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Kinks
Steppenwolf
Led Zeppelin
Animals
Jefferson Airplane
Black Sabbath
Tom Petty
Blue Oyster Cult
The Zombies
The Doors
Kansas
Eric Clapton
Cheap Trick
Scorpions
The Police
Alice in Chains
Ray Charles
Manfred Mann
Foreigner
The Cars
Motley Crue
Van Halen
Motorhead
Canned Heat
Iron Maiden
Dio
Whitesnake
Kiss
Judas Priest
Steve Miller Band
Guns N Roses
The Runaways
Jimi Hendrix
Joan Jett
George Thorogood
Heart

Etc, etc. There's tons. Tons and tons and tons.

Really...?

Those weren't considered classic rock when I was growing up. They were played on standard rock channels. They were releasing new stuff.

I feel old now. And I'm not that old! :(

That's a great list, Harley.

The Who - Baba O'Riley

One of the best songs ever in any genre.

If an alien spaceship showed up in our orbit and demanded a really good song as a tribute or they would vaporize the earth I'd have to send up a copy of Baba O'Riley in the space shuttle, err, soyuz rocket, along with some cooties just in case.

Won't Get Fooled Again. The Who. Any band can play it still sounds great. That's what classic rock is. Same with Led Zep. Covers of What Is And What Never Should Be always sounds great. Some songs you can't fuck up no matter how you try. How many versions of White Christmas have been sung?

Heck yeah I consider them to be classic rock. I mean, what else would you call them? Just plain old rock? Nah. Cuz most plain old rock, at least modern rock, is quite different, and they are not like any modern rock bands, that's for sure.
If you were to look up (google or whatever) the top greatest classic rock hits, artists, etc. I'm sure you'd be bound to see most of those on many of the lists.
Speaking of Tom Petty. He's playing at Bonnaroo this year and I really, really, really want to go. But I don't think I'm gonna get to go :(

Honestly I never really think about music genres. So much stuff seems to have elements from all over the place. A lot of the stuff I listen to most these days is labelled as "trip hop" but a lot of it sounds nothing like other stuff that's also considered trip hop. Some of it sounds like it borrows heavily from old jazz, some of it is bordering on electronica, some of it has elements of rap, some of pop or rock. And sometimes this stuff that's so disparate comes off the same album. :dunno:

I have never been to a concert. That I remember anyway. I think I've gone to one or two but... my brain got lost somewhere. :o

I love TP but saw him in concert in Daytona Beach a couple of years ago and was disappointed. He's wasn't much of a showman, much better in the studio I think.

Excuse me, but...on NO list on ANY planet in ANY known Universe is Ray Charles rock...to quote the Cowardly Lion, "no how no way!" Rainy Night in Georgia Ray Charles?

Or is there some band of faint renown I am unaware of, named RAY CHARLES? It's possible...I could be misinformed and misguided.

Anyway...don't forget the awesome Quicksilver Messenger Service...WHO DO YA LOVE, baby?

There's a house by the roadside, made outa rattlesnake hide. With a chimney way up top, made outa human skulls. C'mon, baby, take a walk with me ...WHO DO YA LOVE?* I tremble before the Gods of Rock n Roll.

*written from memory...may be off a bit, but close enough for rock. :)

Hahaha! Lol woops. Yeah you're right. Idk how I let that one slip in there. It's more blues lol. Ha I was looking at my playlist.com classic rock playlist and just started typing out names of bands I was looking at. I added a bunch of other things on there that weren't classic rock, or rock at all, like Al Green and James Brown. I think I need to go back to my playlist account and organize some of the playlists I created. lol good eye.
