Classic rock blows. Do you agree?

I do like some country, just not most, and I don't typically go out of my way to listen to it. I went through a country phase in high school for like 2 years where it was all I listened to. Then I moved on to other things. For the most part I'm not a big fan, but there are some artists and songs that I like.

The music my parents listened to I didn't enjoy hearing either. It wasn't my taste nor did I feel it but I did recognize the talent.

I can't stand Nashville Bubble-Gum Pop Country but the vintage Outlaw stuff is great. Everybody likes Johnny Cash.

Creepy remake of an already good song. The Man In Black makes it his own adding a more sinister devilish element.

My parents always listen to classic rock, so that's what I grew up listening to the most and still love it to this day. I listen to my Joan Jett pandora station more than any of my other pandora stations. I put her on there because like the OP (or rather what people are assuming is the case with her), I do get sick of hearing the same songs over and over again, and with Joan Jett as the main artist in that station I get a pretty good variety of stuff on there that isn't played on regular radios much.

Johnny Cash is pretty awesome. My favorite song by him is Cry Cry Cry.

10 cc, Spirit, Zappa, on and on...

Then there were crossover bands ... rock mixed with country (New Riders of the Purple Sage, Hank Wilson's Back vol. 1 (Leon Russell),Roger McGuinn (lead singer etc of the Byrds), the Byrds ...the Stones did country crossover.
I am a Bluegrass addict, Country only somewhat. Good is good...there is some Harlan/Oates that rocks, but really...I hum NRPS songs and have their first album on my cell. ( Henry got pissed off and said he'd go to Mexico, to see if he could come back holding 40 keys of Gold."Love it .

Pretenders/Crissy Hind, I think...I have their music, it rocks like Joan did.

Yes I do like The Pretenders. What's that one song I like... Tumbling Dice? Or am I thinking of someone else? No no, that's Rolling Stones... fuck. Oh! Back on the Chain Gang! That's it.

lol see I love classic rock, I know most of the songs, I can sing along with just about all of them, but half the time I couldn't even begin to tell you who is singing a particular song, unless it's someone standard like ACDC or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Or George Thorogood, but only because I adore his music.

So wait, everyone's mad about my classic rock genealization, but has no problem complaining about "modern" music..as if every modern rock band is Nickelback. Okay.

Also, i kind of enjoy some older country.

Haha I actually like some Nickelback songs. But I also like many other modern rock and metal bands, like Primus (favorite song by Primus is My Name is Mud- that song is the shit), Volbeat, and Polkadot Cadaver.

Me too. People like to forget that everyone did once upon a time. That's why they're so hated now. They were everywhere and constantly played on every radio station. People just got sick of it because it was, dare I say it, too mainstream. (now everyone embrace your inner hipster)

Right? I think a big reason why some people say they dislike a certain band (most people like hate on Nickelback, ICP, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, NSync, 98 Degrees, Hanson, etc.) mainly to.... fit in I guess. As if it's soooo bad to listen to them, as if someone who listens to that particular band doesn't know what "real" or "good" music is. There's no shame in liking any type of music, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just... wrong, to put it frankly.

Yeah, some people get really picky about what is "acceptable" and what isn't. This is why when I listen to music I wear headphones pretty much all the time, since I have a playlist or two that contain the following, and they're generally set to shuffle:

Disturbed - Voices
Enya - Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)
Tool - Stinkfist
The Bangles - Eternal Flame

There's almost no way someone isn't going to have a conniption because the music I like is just... all over the place, and I never group them in any sort of coherent manner. I like being surprised by what comes up next. :D

Basically what i've been taught is "classic", aside from the two artists i mentioned, is Lynyrd Skynyrd(garbage), ZZ Top(no), the Rolling Stones who i actually don't particularly mind, ACDC, who I actually think made some of the worst music of all time, etc. Anything in that area is awful.

wow. You just lost some respect from me, but you are entitled to listen to whatever. I couldn't call any type of music garbage, I like to keep an open mind when it comes to vocal or instrumental sound.

:)

i think every one has "closet" bands that they like that if a random person was checking out that persons i pod they would be like "what the fuck man you have all this awesome metal on here but you have a ton of Van Morrison and the strokes "

all you can do is laugh say yeah i loved the strokes when i was in school and my whole crew loves to sit around fires singing and cranking Van Morrison while getting wasted.

i have a friend who loves DMB i hate them but he loves em and i think that's great. if every one was just like you, life would suck.

Actually...what usually happens is people have fun with music (hello? it's MUSIC, dance, sing along, whatever) until they hear it a lot of times...most popular stuff doesn't wear well. After a while it's like only having Peanutbutter to eat...even if you statred out loving it, it starts getting old really fast.
I played Gotye Just Somebody That I Used to Know until I was crosseyed...but I really like that song, and Kimbra is good enough to keep listening to. I still play it.
Some Soundgarden is too heavy for just any time...but they are good. The Beatles Abbey Road is not hard anytime, while the White Album needs some time to get into all the hard stuff (Number 9, Number 9).
BTW, I twisted a cassette tape and played it backwards...it does say "turn me on, deadman"). (Who took the time to get that figured out? Drugs are good, Uh Huh.)

Same here. I have a weird mix on my mp3 player. Have some Theory of a Deadman, MGMT, Pretty Lights, Pink Floyd, Pitbull, The Who, Adele, Swedish House Mafia, 10 years, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, and I even have a Justin Bieber song on there lol. As much as I dislike that kid, there is one song of his that I like.

Nickelback might as well be that Fifty Cents character to me.

Aw come on, Nickelback and 50 Cent are two completely different types.

Don't feel bad about the Bieber. Never heard any of his songs, but I do have a couple from Kanye West kicking around and I revile that man.

No, I think some people are just a tad annoyed by your ATTITUDE towards it, and your self righteousness...but most people...not all, but most people can live with, "I think", you however tend to say things like "it is". Had you expressed this as an opinion, and not a matter of fact, people, including myself, would have likely reacted differently.
