Bishopstoke in Eastleigh, Eastley, Hants
What's the deal with British addresses? I've seen a few the way they're written on mail, and it makes no sense to me. For example (from Dave Rhino's thread about the guy who chainsawed his head off):
Usually they have a street number on them, but I don't understand what Bishopstoke, Eastleigh, Eastley, or Hants are. Is Bishopstoke the city, or is Eastleigh the city? :helpme:
What about Eastley? What is that?Eastleigh is the city. Hants (Hampshire) is the county.
They are different

Often the Brits leave part of that out, but sometimes they put the suburb, the city, and the county, which is like Americans putting the state.
You will never get an address like
12557 47th Ave NE #145
Minneapolis
That just wouldn't happen. Not in England. We don't number our streets instead of naming them, and we have house numbers from 1, 2, 3 and up instead of in 100s by block.

.. nope .. it's more tragedy than comedy .. which reminds me of one of my favourite Mel Brooks quotes:-Is Scotland's national football team considered "comedy"...?

Some people do some people don't. We have a lot of towns that have more than one of the same street. In a country where things grew up over thousands of years rather than decades, there are lots of overlaps and repeats and nothing was really planned out from the start. So you often have to be very specific, cause when a lot of these streets were named, there was no such thing as Royal Mail.
You should visit England, it really is a wonderful place, but verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry expensive
But at least we have Lidl's. 4 cans of baked beans for 20p, get in!
