Another good old one to add is Fawlty Towers! I think its my favourite british comedy. You have to find sarcasm funny though or you wont like it! lol

Yes Fawlty Towers may be the best although there are only 12 or 14 episodes it is magnificent.
For those of a more particular taste, you could try a programme called 'Still Game', a Scottish comedy.
No offense but I doubt many people outisde of Scotland would get "Still Game" They would need to pause it and look up their Scottish slang dictionary every 2 mins...lol Still Game is a really funny sitcom but not everyone gets it if they are not familiar with Scottish culture and slang. I remember when Rab C Nesbitt went on English TV they never got it either at first.
I think they only Scottish comedy eveybody gets is Billy Connolly and that's about it.

Another funny British comedy was Minder. Although I don't think Americans would understand it's humour. Minder was very popular in Australia.
