T minus 1 month!

Predictions:
Pac 12 - Stanford beats UCLA to win the conference title game but doesn't make it to the final 4
Big 12 - Oklahoma repeats as conference champ in the we-don't-need-no-stinking-defense Big 12
Big 10 - Which OSU team shows up? The dominant late season version or the ho hum regular season one? OSU/Michigan game will be huge. MSU will have another solid season but won't win the conference. Iowa repeats in the weaker division but loses title game to either Michigan or OSU.
ACC - Clemson repeats.
SEC - Alabama wins the west, Tennessee the east. 'Bama wins the title game and repeats as National Champions.

Some really good opening week games:

USC vs Alabama
LSU vs Wisconsin
UCLA vs Texas AM
North Carolina vs Georgia
Clemson vs Auburn
BYU vs Arizona
Ole Miss vs Florida State
Notre Dame vs Texas

The saddest thing I think I've ever seen was an ad on Vegas PBS for a UNLV football game. That's what happens when you hire a high school coach for a college team.

Is that really a bad thing?

Gus Malzahn was a high school coach. As offensive coodinator at Auburn, he won a national championship, and then got them back to the title game as a head coach.

And, that UNLV coach was no slouch in high school. He went 85-5 and his team played in the championship game EVERY season he was there. That's pretty fucking good if you ask me.

Ole Miss lost 3 first round picks last year. Two of those picks had 1st overall pick talent, but they were taken much later because off the field problems.

Ryan Clark starts talk at 37.00 mark, and he gives a balanced report of this years team. This years FSU team is much more talented top to bottom them our 2013 championship. But FSU doesn't have a decent backup until Maguire comes back from injury.

Looking forward to the Sydney Cup this friday Aug. 26 between Hawaii and Cal. I'm saving it to the cloud on Playstation Vue for the next day.

UH football needs to get back to what they're known for: 5000 yard passing seasons and putting up 35 on the scoreboard, by halftime. Go 'Bows!

Wazzu is going to light it up as well and make some noise in the Pac-12. Their QB Luke Falk has to be in the Heisman discussion.

I love college football.

Okie gets spanked!

Tom Herman's team just made for a season of intrigue as long as they can keep winning. Keeping their edge in every game will be the big challenge but the Cougars made a huge statement today....not only to the playoff committee but to the Big 12 as well. Awesome job!!

Well...Ohio State and Michigan did their jobs....but us Spartans had to face the mighty Furman Paladins, GODS of the Southern Conference. They finished last year with an astounding 4-7 record. Under sixth year head coach Fowler, these pesky Paladins managed to almost upend the favored Spurtans. What in the Dantonio is going on?????????????

I realize it's only one game and the season has just begun, but one would be hard-pressed to compare the magnitude of the Houston Cougars' season-opening win over perennial Big 12 juggernaut Oklahoma in a very long time. This article from SB Nation presents a very compelling case to consider from a couple of different aspects.

Houston just beat the Big 12 favorite. Add UH to the conference, or look like cowards.

If you're scared, say you're scared.

1. Houston is one of six or eight or 11 or 13 teams still in the running to be added to the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars are widely expected to be one of the final three or so, considering they already have the potential support of conference kingpin Texas.

2. The biggest argument against adding UH is pretty simple, and has been made by multiple Big 12 coaches: it'd make recruiting a lot harder for everybody already in the conference. There are good cases for other schools, such as BYU having a larger fanbase and Cincinnati adding new territory and so forth. Maybe other schools would add more money or turf or whatever. Sure.

3. When you hear Big 12 coaches saying they don't want to add Houston, that strikes the ear a certain way, doesn't it? Even if they're making a fair case, it calls to mind a claim made by a UH megabooster to CBS Sports: "That's kind of disappointing that Texas with their big budget fears the University of Houston. For other schools in the Big 12 to keep them out because they're scared of them, men need to be men."

4. ... Especially since Houston is a sudden elite on the field, is the reigning American Athletic Conference and Peach Bowl champion, and entered 2016 as a reasonable Playoff pick.

5. Oklahoma entered its season-opening game against No. 15 Houston as an even more popular Playoff pick, ranked No. 3 and the Big 12's official preseason favorite.

6. On Sept. 3, Houston dominated the reigning Big 12 champions, 33-23, with the whole country watching.

7. It was a complete and total conquest, from defense (here's Baker Mayfield getting spinebustered, and here's big Samaje Perine getting flattened) to offense (here's a catch that'll be a play of the month candidate) to special teams (HERE'S A KICK SIX). Quarterback Greg Ward Jr. looked every bit as elusive and dangerous as his Heisman favorite counterpart, OU's Baker Mayfield. Duke Catalon outrushed the Perine/Joe Mixon duo. Steven Dunbar pulled in more receiving yards than any of the Sooners' former blue chips. True freshman defensive lineman Ed Oliver left no doubt he would start for many SEC teams. And so on.

8. If UH were already in the Big 12, the Cougars would be the new favorite to win the conference and take it to the Playoff.

9. Your move, Big 12.

My Hawkeyes played pretty good. After they went up 21-0 I thought it wasn't even going to be a contest so I took a nap. Watching the Sooners lose was kinda fun.

It always is :D They're always so overhyped, which often makes them a good go against team from a betting perspective.

Speaking of over-rated...The Florida Gators have become a pitiful shadow of their former selves.

Meanwhile Northwestern and Mississippi State suffered stunning losses, and Tennessee came close to experiencing the same.

I was definitely surprised to see Wisconsin beat LSU.

UCLA staged a wild comeback against A&M, had the ball and a great chance to win the game in the last minute, but blew it.

USC hung tough with Bama for the first 22 minutes, but the tide looks like winning big in the end.

Honestly, I don't see this as an upset. I actually picked Houston to win.

Whoever wrote (believes) that is full of shit. Did nobody pay attention to the recruiting tidbit they mentioned about Houston? More than half of Houston's signee's this year played high school ball within 32 miles of the campus!

I wouldn't speak so quick about Florida. Yes, they were playing a shit team, but the players knew that. Year in, year out, we see teams that don't prepare well for certain games. It's hard to get motivated for a team when everyone tells you that you'll beat them by more than 50.

I'm not so surprised at Northwestern. They've sucked for years now. The South Alabama win is the biggest shock.

I'm not surprised LSU lost. Les Miles is just jinxed, or, HE is the jinx. They're driving to make the winning field goal, and the QB makes an utter boneheaded decision. Typical.

The Bama game played out as I predicted. Offensively, start slow against an overrated team while the defense keeps knocking their dicks into the dirt.

As for Auburn, they should have won. This loss was just poor coaching. Shockingly, Brent Musberger actually had a coherent thought when he said, "If you're playing 3 quarterbacks, you have NO quarterback." Auburn's defense actually played a good game, but why Gus Malzahn wanted to play 3 QB's makes no sense.
  1. Sean White - He has no arm and he's slower than christmas
  2. Jeremy Johnson - Simply put, he sucks. He sucked last year, and I knew he'd suck this year. He should be called AT&T, because he telegraphs every play.
  3. John Franklin - The best QB on the team and the fastest player on the field (Malzahn didn't even give him a single pass attempt), and he's stuck at 3rd string. Why? Malzahn, like so many other coaches, has this mindset that uperclassmen should be the starters. Plus, Franklin is small at 6-1 & 186, but Clemson's defense was giving him mad respect by the way they played him. Dabo obviously saw something Malzahn failed to see.

My Golden Eagles took out Kentucky in a frantic 25-pt comeback! Hell of a way to start the season!

Some Sunday. Got up this morning. Made coffee. Scrubbed the kitchen and hallway floors. Now I'm sitting here waiting for the floor to dry...checking out the results I missed online, and playing a game in my head: What Will The Top 10 Look Like Tuesday game. Roll Tide will stay #1. Okie will drop. Where Clemson ends up depends on the Seminoles Monday. LSU will drop. The Urbans will crack the Top 5 followed by the We're Back Wolverines. Stanford was unimpressive but will likely stay put. The Vols are blessed by Jesus to still be undefeated...I'd love to hear the locker room in Ann Arbor about that one. If the Irish look impressive against Texas they'll leap frog the Vols...because the Irish are second only to everybody in the SEC on the media's ass-lick list.

If the Irish just eek out a win, they will (should) leap the Vols!

This year, when I first saw the Vols were even in the top 25, my first thought was "The pollsters have lost their fucking minds!".

I knew they would prove me right this year, but doing it in game 1, against Appalachian State, this is just too sad.

Up next is V-tech, 29-23 over the past 4 years. That's bad and yet, that game is not a lock. After game 3, the schedule gets brutal, and the Vols could easily end up below .500.

I would love to see the Irish get beat, but I still think Charlie fucked up beyond repair when he gutted the team his first year. I see another trainwreck-of-a-season coming, and if that wreck is combined with a loss to the Sooners, Charlie is done. And, if Texas hires anyone other than Tom Herman, I'd be shocked!
