Correction....I meant to say that I hope the Dodgers continue to slow the Cubs down, not the Pirates. Bucs are playing Colorado so should have their way with them which simply puts more pressure on the Redbirds. What a race and what a division!

It sucks that it will likely be a 1-game playoff between the teams with the 3rd and 4th best records in baseball. That said, there is no reason to change the format.

Today in Toronto, Edwin Encarnacion hit 3 home runs-a grand slam, a 3 run shot & a 2 run homer for a total of 9 RBI's. The fans of course threw hats onto the field in a nod to a hat trick in hockey. The Jays have scored over 700 runs. The Yankees are 2nd with just over 600 runs scored. No other team has scored 600 runs at this point. This offence has been down right scary since the All-Star break. Donaldson, Bautista & Encarnacion should end the year with over 100 HR's over 300 runs scored & over 300 RBI's combined. That's freakin' scary. Encarnacion is on a 24 game hit streak to boot.

Their offense is indeed friggin' scary. Those are monster projections. Looks like Jays management has gone all-in this year.

Meanwhile, once again, quietly lurking in the weeds are the Kansas City Royals with the second best record and the biggest divisional lead in the majors at 13.5 games. They should be rested and ready come playoff time.

Both Missouri teams are scary. The Cards just keep winning despite the injuries & the Royals have a very good team. The NL Central has overtaken the AL East as the best division in baseball. That division will be good for years.

Dodgers get no-hit for the second time in 9 days!

Kudos to Arrieta. The Bums just couldn't reach that slider no matter how they tried. He was totally dominant last night!

Meanwhile, the Cardinals take 2 out of 3 against the Giants and finish a brutal 10-game west-coast road trip at 7-3 using a glorified AAA lineup. Incredible. Heyward, Molina have really picked it up and the pitching has been spectacular.

And the Yankees just keep winning too. They beat up Atlanta over the weekend scoring 38 runs.

Should be a great September-5 out of the 6 divisions have races.

Yep, I was off on my prediction of the Twins overtaking the Royals but I knew they were going to make some noise. It's not usually pretty, but the Twins have made their mark on winning lucky and doing the impossible for years(in fact there is a term which was coined by their division foes as "Getting Twin'd"), if they're in striking distance look out, weird shit can happen. I remember that they had to completely fall off a cliff in order for Detroit to finally win the central and sustain it, they would always steal the division away from them on the last day. They won a couple BS games against my Cards this year too.

and the Angels have faded since Mike Trout hurt his wrist and their pitching suddenly started sucking
keep an eye on the Rangers they are making a quiet but sure move towards the wildcard

Former UNC Wilmington stand-out Chris Hatcher making a name for himself in LA. Came up big last night for the Dodgers.

He sure did...and gave a boost to a much-maligned bullpen that has been the Dodgers' Achilles heel all season.

Of course, he was also the goat who gave up the walk-off home run to Jason Castro a week ago Sunday in Houston so he's not exactly a lights-out guy but they sure could use someone besides Jansen upon whom they can depend. They also just got Chris Heisey back but they had just released him a couple of weeks ago anyway so I'm not sure how much impact this will have. They just haven't had any solid setup help all year and that has really hurt them. No one on the farm to help fill in? I guess not.

Anyway....a huge win for the Bums last night and they definitely have the advantage going forward with Greinke and Kershaw set to pitch the next 2 games. The Giants are at serious risk of not making the playoffs if they can't somehow find a way to overtake LA.

Add Cardinal's Cody Stanley to the list of UNCW alum contributing to their major league teams.

so the Dodgers completed the sweep of the Giants but do count out the Giants thats way to dangerous

Agree. It was a big step for them however. I'm rooting for the Dodgers and Cubs to keep the Giants out of the playoffs this year. I'd much rather have to face Donnie Baseball than Bruce Bochy in a 5 or 7-game chess match.

This. The Giants fucking own us, we own the Dodgers.

The Royals are absolutely screwed, they got a damaged Cueto, he's got to be hurt. I feel kind of bad for them, they went all in because they thought their Flush was good, but the Blue Jays were holding a Full House.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Cubs bullpen issues will ultimately be their downfall. It's been such a glaring deficiency for years now. I can't understand how it still hasn't been addressed. Why build such a great, young team in most other aspects, but neglect this one area? It's like if an architect built a beautiful house and then decided not to put a fucking roof on it. You're eventually going to spoil everything you've worked for.

Every time a Cubs starter is pulled, it's like a brand new game. Unless every starter plans on throwing complete games in the postseason, every game is going to be an adventure. So frustrating...
