Toronto goes into Yankee Stadium for a 3 game weekend series. Jays win Friday night 2-1 in 10. Solo shots by Donaldson & Bautista for Toronto & Teixera for NY. Jays win 6-0 on Saturday behind 7 strong from Price & a grand slam by Justin Smoak & solo shot by Tulowitzki. Jays win Sunday 2-0 on solo shots by Donaldson & Bautista. Yankees only scored 1 run in 28 innings. All Toronto runs except 1 came via the home run.

Yanks come north next weekend for 3.

and the A's will thank the Jays for releasing Danny Valencia who's been on fire since joining the A's Lineup with several game winning hits

The Cubs have a real shot at a wild card slot but their chances were diminished when compared to moves that competing teams made.

I think they'll beat the Dodgers out for the second wild card slot.
The Dodgers are dead men walking.
Andrew Friedman completely blew it at the trade deadline.

27 years and counting since their last world series appearance
Hard to imagine but true.

Well, my Redbirds eked out game 1 against the Bucs at Busch last night with a nice comeback win. Martinez started off a bit shaky but was rock solid and pitched 8 strong innings. A rested Rosenthal struck out the side in the 9th to get the save. Game 2 tonight should be an awesome pitching duel between Cole and Wacha. If you get a chance, catch it on ESPN tonight at 7 central. These 2 teams are very evenly matched....I have great respect for the Pirates....they are an outstanding team.

Aug 11, 2015 ALL 15 home teams won. First time in history that has happened.

I checked the NL standings yesterday. I think only 3 teams had winning records against the NL Central. That is a tough division. Cubs, Cards, Pirates all deserve to be in the playoffs.

Cards are so frustrating to watch, need more offense!

boy that would be crazy if the Cubs, Cardinals and Pirates where 3/5 ths of the NL play off teams

Yep. But they're 2 1/2 games up on the Dodgers in that race already. Granted they will have a tougher schedule coming down the stretch than the Dodgers as they'll have to play the Cards and Bucs. But I really do think they'll make it. At this point I'm thinking the Mets will hang on too, giving us a Pirates/Cubs wild card game, a Giants/Mets series and a wild card winner/Cards series.

I can relate but our pitching is off the charts so, even though most games are tight, there's a reason we have the best record in MLB playing in the toughest division. It sure would be nice to have more wins like we had tonight (a 6-2 victory over the Marlins) but, at the end of the day, it's wins and losses that matter regardless of the margin. We really need to get Holliday back....everything revolves around his offensive consistency and, without him, out lineup is not going to put the fear of God into too many teams. Our pitching staff sure does however so we just need to keep riding that wave as far as it will take us.

I will reiterate that Matheny's conservative management methods drive me up a wall. This is not a team of home run hitters so we need to do everything we can to manufacture runs. Our inability to bunt and play small-ball when needed and Matheny's refusal to call for sacrifices and squeeze plays at key moments has cost us several wins this year.

Grichuk and Piscotty look like the real deal to me so great additions to the regular lineup originally based on need now paying off as these guys consistently deliver. We've got a great team, deep pitching and solid hitting. Lack of HR power is our only weakness from my viewpoint. Our bullpen is the best in baseball and I could make the same argument for the starting rotation even though Waino is on the DL and has been all year. Martinez and Wacha have stepped us as the young guns and Lackey, Lynn and Garcia have been rock-solid. I'll stack our staff up against anyone's.

The more each day goes by the more the Blue Jays look like a lock for the World Series, just a deadly line up.

They've been getting some good pitching too. I think they went 20 straight games with the starters going 6+ innings giving up 3 or fewer runs. Their bullpen has settled down too. They still have to catch the Yankees & Baltimore is lurking.

How long is Heyward out for?

He's day-to-day....they are saying it is simply tightness due to a cramp but they aren't taking any chances. Hopefully, he'll be back in the lineup in a day or two. In the meantime, I have no idea how we managed to take 2-for-3 against the Giants. Once thing is for sure....we need to get some of these hitters back soon or a team like Pittsburgh could easily overtake us. We can't keep counting on our pitching staff to hold the opposition to 1 or 2 runs per game for any extended length of time.....just not realistic.

i think the cubs might actually be for real. i know it's a crazy idea but they are playing daily well other than this week against the tigers
looks like the jays peaked to soon
