We were treated to 3 great games with the Yankees & Jays. Jays took the series 2-1 to extend their lead to 3 1/2 games. If last night's game 2 had of been played as part of the ALCS, people would have talked about it being a classic. It was nice to see ESPN plug Toronto into their GPS & get up here to televise a couple of games. They even had local boy Dan Shulman do the ESPN radio games.

Major blowup between Mattingly and Kershaw today.
It appeared tensions eased when things turned out the Dodger's way, but after the game Kershaw refused to speak about the incident at all and still sounded really pissed off.

The owners won't want doubleheaders-they'll have to give up the $ from a home date.

Yes no doubt you're right about that, although aren't most "modern" doubleheaders treated as separate gates now anyway...with extra time between games to accommodate the two separate crowds?

It's good to see starters want to stay in the game now-a-days. I don't agree with the way Kershaw handled the situation, I do like the message.

Twi-night doubleheaders may work-the owners get the same money. They would just have to make sure it's a 4 game series, Friday, 2 Saturday & 1 Sunday.

The longest playoff drought in North American sports is over-the Jays have clinched a playoff spot. Today, David Price won his 18th (he's 9-1 since the trade).

KC loses Holland for the year-looks like he's headed for TJ surgery. (don't get me started on this shit) Cards lose Martinez due to shoulder injury. (Jagger-how ya doing?)

This is devastating for us. Although we can shorten the rotation in the playoffs, Carlos is a front-line starter who can't be replaced. I admire the resilience of this team for leading the majors in wins all year in spite of the plethora of injuries we're suffered but this might be more than we can withstand. I'm very concerned about our starting pitching depth going into the post-season. Nothing I can do but hope for the best but I am not optimistic at this point. Pittsburgh looks like a juggernaut despite losing Kang....they've won 8 straight road games! Impressive to say the least.

The Cardinals need Yadier Molina. He's the big loss. That thumb injury is the thing that's devastating. Pitchers go to him for advice. He's another manager on the field. Tony Cruz is not a leader.

Zack Greinke and Adrian Gonzalez are banged up for the Dodgers too. Mat Latos released. Alex Wood, Carlos Frias and Mike Bolsinger back in the starting five. Look strong.

Now that the National League has all the players for the playoffs (since the Giants are out of it :( ). My selections:

NLDS:

Pirates over the Cubs in the play-in game. Sorry Cubs -- the game is not in Wrigley. You need to wait another year to advance further.

Jake Arietta does win the NL Cy Young Award.

Cardinals over the Pirates, in a 3-2 series. Best series of MLB - in either league.
Dodgers over the Mets, in a 3-2 series. Sorry Mets -- Zack and Clayton dominate you. Mike Bolsinger comes up big in long relief.

NLCS:

What can I say? I'm going with the Cardinals (with Molina) to beat the Dodgers in the NLCS, 4-2. Doomsday for Don Mattingly. He's fired after this season.

Hopefully Yaddy is back at full strength for the playoffs.

I've admired the way the Cards have won all year despite the injuries. I hope they can over come the injuries in the playoffs-they're a good team. Agreed John, they really need Molina back.

The AL MVP award was all but sewn up today by Josh Donaldson. He hit a walk off 2 run homer today in the bottom of the 9th. On the broadcast, they said that is a record for walk off homers in a year.

NLDS-Arietta vs. Cole-that is a main event anywhere.

Good old Josh Donaldson. Good to see a Bay Area (ex-Oakland A's) guy win it. Tim Hudson would be proud of another ex-alumni of Auburn University. Yesterday was Tim Hudson's final MLB start with the Giants. A good game he had against Barry Zito. Though neither pitcher was impressive. Tim Hudson is retiring after this season.

The American League is coming down to the wire. The Angels have picked up steam. They may overtake the Astros for the last wild card berth.

I'm happy for the Blue Jays ... Dave Stieb and Kelly Gruber should throw out the first pitches at the Rogers Centre. They should throw to Joe Carter and Dave Winfield as the catchers. :D

Yes that NL play-game with Jake Arietta and Gerrit Cole is going to be a very good game. It's going to extra innings. The Pirates will win it in the 14th inning - they start off the inning with a triple by Andrew McCutcheon. :)

Congratulations Blue Jays :glugglug:

You would think...BUT...the Dodgers are about to get swept in Colorado lol ... So if you can sweep these next four from the Dodgers, and they've barely even scored this year in your yard let alone win...they'd still have a magic number of 2 with three games left. Ok granted the odds are very long but I have zero faith in this team lol

ANYTHING is possible. :) ... The LADs getting swept? :D More excitement for Madison Bumgarner come Tuesday night. He once again faces Clayton ....

... Hehe. :D ;) :) -- I do so hope that he becomes a 20 game winner for the Giants in 2015. ;) :) ;)

In the playoffs, you have to go with Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw over the Mets. The Mets may be up and coming with the great pitchers; Jacob DeGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and Steven Matz, backed up by Jonathan Niese and Bartolo Colon.

(Notice I didn't mention anything about the "Primadonna"??? ... aka Matt Harvey.)

Matt Harvey is a loser!! Being from Connecticut, he can't wait to leave the Mets. He wants to sign a big free agent contact with his favorite boyhood team, the New York Yankees.

But the Mets will be facing good NL teams in the playoffs. Not the Double A teams that are in their division currently: the Phillies 59-97 (2015 Mets record against the Phillies was 14-2 with three games remaining); the Braves 62-94 (2015 Mets record against the Braves was 11-8); and the Marlins 69-87 (2015 Mets record against the Marlins was 11-8). Against the Washington Nationals 79-76 (2015 Mets record against the Nationals was 10-6 with three games remaining).

I expect the Mets to play these games against the Dodgers close, but I do see the Dodgers prevailing in either four or five games in the NLDS. :D

Donaldson is a real ball player. The city loves him. After the game, he said they still have to win the division, which is true-don't get ahead of your selves guys. It looks like Mark Buehrle's streak of 15 years throwing 200 innings will end this year. He's at 190 something with 1 start left.

Hey John-replace "Foggy" Gruber with Robbie Alomar.

Hard to believe the Astros may not make the playoffs after the season they've had. They're going to be good for a long time.

Did anybody see this?
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...-papelbon-scuffle-washington-nationals-dugout

So, Williams lets Papelbon go out for the 9th? Did I read that right? I've heard that Papelbon is a real dick, I think he proved it this week.

Yes, Jonathan Papelbon is a high strung pitcher and he can't take criticism well (aka excess booing by the fans.) Remember last year around this time when he was with Phillies. He came off the mound and extended his middle finger and had harsh words for the Phillies fans behind the Phillies dugout. Umpire Joe West ejected him immediately. Ryne Sandberg and Ruben Amaro, Jr. along with the Phillies front office fined him an undisclosed amount.

As a Dodger fan you learn that anything BAD is possible lol We have very long memories for things like Ozzie Smith hitting his first (and I think only -shoot he only hit 28 hr's in his career) career left-handed home run in walk off fashion in the 1985 NLCS

In the playoffs, you have to go with Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw over the Mets.

I dunno. Maybe they scrape by in a 5 game series. But the other Dodger starters are shit. Not a single one over .500 and none with any + post season experience. I'd predict the Mets in either 4 or 5 games.

Insightful post but there's no way Greinke doesn't win the Cy Young, He's been lights out all year.

Congrats to the Cards for winning the NL Central. :glugglug: They won the toughest division in baseball & 100 games with a line up held together with duct tape & chewing gum. Quite an accomplishment. Metheny for NL Manager of the Year.
