Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Cubs bullpen issues will ultimately be their downfall. It's been such a glaring deficiency for years now. I can't understand how it still hasn't been addressed. Why build such a great, young team in most other aspects, but neglect this one area? It's like if an architect built a beautiful house and then decided not to put a fucking roof on it. You're eventually going to spoil everything you've worked for.

Every time a Cubs starter is pulled, it's like a brand new game. Unless every starter plans on throwing complete games in the postseason, every game is going to be an adventure. So frustrating...

Cubs have been incredible down the stretch. I gotta hand it to Epstein and Maddon....they finally have it moving in the right direction. Looks like they are going to be really good for quite a while if their key players can stay healthy. That's what amazes me about the Cardinals (although we have really been slipping in recent days)....we've been able to keep the division lead in spite of all the injuries. Should be a great final 3 weeks.

Jays ride a 5 run first inning en route to an 11-5 win over the Yankees. Jays hit 5 home runs in the game. Today is a traditional double header to make up for Thursday's rain out. Bad news for the Yankees as Teixeira is out for the year. Things are getting interesting in the AL West as Texas closes in on the Astros.

Jays sweep both ends of today's doubleheader 9-5 in 11 innings in game 1 & 10-7 in the nightcap. In game 1, Jays scored 5 runs on 1 hit in the top of the 11th. Tulo injured in game 1 in a collision with CF Pillar. He may have a small fracture in his left shoulder. That's 30 runs in 3 games against the Yanks.

Tulo's out for at least 7 days has a small crack in a bone plus heavy brushing in the rib area from the collision

man the Reds of all teams have beaten the Cards twice in a row making it possible for the Pirates to close in

Texas now in 1st place in the AL West. Cards clinch at least a playoff berth.

Something has been pissing me off lately. Ever since they moved Houston to the AL, there has to be inter league play every day. This is really stupid. Tanaka has to miss a start because he strained a hammy trying to bunt. Baseball has to get back to get back to 16 NL teams & 14 AL teams, or better yet, get rid of the DH.

I saw the replay of how Molina injured his thumb. I can't help but think if they hadn't of brought in the new rules about blocking the plate, Molina would not have injured his thumb. He had to reach back & couldn't make a proper catcher's tag.

Could not agree more. Interleague play is dumb IMO. I'd rather see more games against division rivals instead of some obscure team from the other league. The DH makes every manager a strategic genius since he doesn't need to THINK. Any other position player can block a base....why not the catcher? Spot on, beaver!

Out here in the west ALL the talking heads have long since anointed the Dodgers as certain division winners :1orglaugh
Meanwhile they've lost three in a row and still have a four game set to play in San Francisco next week, where they have not won (and have barely even scored) this year.
Yeah sorry but I'm not on that bandwagon. I still won't be shocked to see them blow this
And even if they do make it, so what? They still only have two starters. Period. How deep a run are you going to make in the playoffs with two starters, no matter how good they are? The whole season, from day one, this team's most glaring need has been a number 3. And who did the great and glorious sabermetric geeks decide was finally going to fill that role?? Mat freaking Latos
Good grief

Thanks Jagger!! Here in Toronto, we get the AL East 19 times. Personally, I think that's enough. I'd like to see more games against the rest of the AL. The other teams only come in here once. I'd like to see Mike Trout, et al more often. If I'm busy when the Angels come to town, I'm fucked until the next year.

On the last weekend of this season, Houston goes into Arizona & loses the DH. They lose the DH on the last weekend of the season. How stupid is that? Did they not think this through?

Up here for the last 2 weeks, the local sports radio station has been asking this question "Who will be in the Jays starting rotation for the playoffs?" Why not wait until you get there first, then ask the question-idiots.

Plus, big bullpen issues. Besides Jansen, who can you count on? Big problem for the Bums.

Yep. The playing field just isn't level. It's not a fair situation either way. I'm a baseball purist so I despise the DH. I want it to go away and a commissioner with the balls to stand up to the MLBPA would try to make that happen. Not likely, so we put up with the miserable situation we have been enduring for years. Ridiculous. Only major sport in the USA with a different set of rules within the same league. Tell me how that makes any logical sense!

I agree. I get a little burnt out seeing the Padres, Rockies, D-Backs 19 time a year. That's more than plenty.

Exactly! Focus on the now - they aren't even IN yet. One Dodger broadcaster has been stating all season long that there's no way this team will miss the post season. No possible way. Well, after tonight that INSUMROMOUNTABLE lead they had three days ago is down to 5, with 4 games looming in SF next week.

True Jagger, although the bull pen was outstanding nearly the first two months of the year before Jansen made it back. I think the lack of a number 3 who could consistently go deep in games was what, over time, led to most of the bullpen's problems. That plus some injuries and guys who were hot early coming back down to earth. It's true they still have no reliable set up guy for Jansen, but when I picture this team with a Cole Hamels (who most of the local "experts" were sure was coming here at the deadine) they'd have long since clinched and be one very tough out in the postseason.
Instead they're going to try to win a world series with essentially two starters lol Good luck with that. At the moment they look more likely to be remembered for an epic final two weeks collapse.

I can understand that but by the same token I'd much rather see us play another series against the Cubs, Pirates, Brewers or Reds (all big rivals of ours) than to see the Mariners or Rays (teams with which we really have no affinity or emotion). I do actually kind of like it when we play the Royals since they would be a natural rival for us. Meh....it is what it is so....

Skip inter league play and just shorten the season so they aren't playing the WS in the snow.

Move it back to 154 games like it used to be.

It wouldn't matter. You would still have at least one inter-league series going at all times. The only way to avoid this would be to have one team from each league to take a series OFF at all times. That is not baseball. The reason they moved Houston over to the AL was same number of teams in each league instead of having an even number in each. There isn't even that many inter-league games that anybody cares about. Reds-Indians, Nats-O's, Cards-Royals, Giants-A's and the city rivalries in New York, Chicago and LA are the only ones that any body cares about. The Florida teams play each other and attendance jumps from a thousand to fifteen hundred so who cares.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
The passing of Yogi Berra is a sad day for baseball, but also a day of fond remembrance. People tend to forget he was a hell of a ball player. Actually drove side-by-side with him for about a mile on I-95 one Spring. I saw a nice car with NY plates. Happened to look over at the driver for some reason. "Hey, that looks like Yogi," I told my kids, who had no idea what I was talking about. A second look and I shouted, "Holy shit, it is Yogi." Not exactly the greatest story, but it is my brush with Yogi.

Yogi was a helluva ball player. 10 rings, what 3 AL MVP awards, battery mate of Don Larsen in his perfect game in the '56 World Series. He hardly ever struck out. He had an amazing career. R.I.P. Yogi :crying:

RIP Yogi Berra :(
His is one of those passings that really marks the time *sigh*
Great guy, outstanding player. Did anyone NOT like Yogi Berra? Not that I can remember hearing.

Regarding preventing a snow bound world series: Couldn't we just schedule a few double headers for each team each season, and/or either start spring training a week earlier or eliminate roughly a week of spring training games?

I agree with shortening spring training by a week. There are enough domes & warm weather teams to start the season. The owners won't want doubleheaders-they'll have to give up the $ from a home date.
