the SFs for Stuttgart and Baastad are set:

Gimeno Traver-Monfils
Ferrero-Montañés

Soderling-Ferrer (nice match!)
Almagro-Robredo

i'd love to see a Monfils-Ferrero... VAMOS JUANQUI!!!

the swedish assassin doesn't look like one: he was set-down, break-down, but somehow could escape. It doesn't look too good for him against Ferrer.

Verdasco sucks right now. Really. I don't get him: why the fuck is he playing this tournament, and next week Hamburg, all before Canada and Cincy, KNOWING that his roland garros-wimbledon fiasco was because of his large amount of matches previous to that?
i guess he needs the money. :dunno:

He isnt a great top 10 player really. Almost every other top 10 has a dominant record against him (Nadal 10-0, Murray 8-1, Roddick 9-3, Davydenko 7-1, Federer 4-0 :uohs:) and he can sometimes be prone to upsets against no-name players.
At least he is number 1 in getting women :dunno:

Again, four honeys in the semis. This time in Prague. I can't stress enough: I'd like Patty win a tourney before she goes.
We have Barbora Strycova there; probably the coolest maid evah on the WTA tour :lovecoupl; Lucie Hradecka is a laid-back chickie and Agi Szavay might be the sweetest thing since the invention of custard.

No matter who wins the tourney... I APPROVE!

Monfils retires hurt, handing Montanes the Stuttgart title

beat me for 5 minutes... in fact, when i open the thread, your post wasn't there... i guess it took me too long to write it down :glugglug:
Anyway, here it is:

World no. 20 Nicolas Almagro won the ATP 250 of Baastad, beating local hero Robin Soderling in three sets. It's his 6th career title, first in the last 18 months.
For the Swedish Assassin was his 4th final of the year, 6th in the last 13 months. Not bad at all.
Nico will be in next week's tournament in Hamburg (ATP 500)

World no. 30 Albert Montañés won the ATP 250 of Stuttgart, beating frenchman Gael Monfils, who retired in the 2nd set. It's his 5th career title, his 5th win in his last 5 finals, second title of the year, 4th in the last 15 months.
For Monfils, it was his first final of the year, 3rd in the last 10 months.
They both will be playing next week in Hamburg.

I was surprised when your update wasnt there, so I made my own. Should have waited a few more minutes :D

Looks like the second serve was a major factor for both players. Robin double faulted a lot and had a relatively low second serve winning percentage, while Nico was DF-free and won a high percentage of second serve points.

exactly.

keys to the game: break points won, double faults, 2nd serve points won, 2nd return points won

1 of 7 break points... reminds me the Roland Garros 2007 Final between Roger and Rafa... Roger had 1/17! A couple more of those, and Roger would have beat Rafa...

Monfils will have to watch twisted ankle‎

poor Gael... just when he was starting to play well again.

David Ferrer and Garcia-Lopez also retired from the ATP 500 event, but not for injuries, but for resting.

So, the projected QFs now are:
Davydenko-Almagro (nice match!)
Ferrero-Dolgopolov (vamos Juanqui!)
Montañés-Melzer (Albert comes strong)
Bellucci-Berrer (easy for the brazilian talent)

the SFs look very interesting. ;)

There are people who say Roger is over the hill, that he won't come to the top again. What's your opinion?

Rafael Nadal: My opinion is that everyone said the same two years ago and after that he won in Australia, he won in Roland Garros, he won Wimbledon, he won the U.S. Open, so we will see what happens. Roger is good enough, he has enough experience. For sure it's difficult what he did the last seven, eight years, impossible to repeat for another player ... Roger is going to be there, I'm sure of it.

i hope you're right, Rafa, for Christ sake.

Speaking of Christ...

Do you believe in God?

Rafael Nadal: It's hard to say, "I don't believe in God." I would love to know if God exists. But it's a very difficult thing for me to believe. I don't know.

 a spanish who doesn't believe in the Lord? weird...

I saw my girl Martina Hingis playing in some team event on the tennis channel today. Her suspension should be up by now, even though she was supposedly retired. Is she back playing tennis now, or what? I sure hope I get to see her play again.

edit: Wiki says she wont be coming back professionally

It sounds like she was playing in the World Team Tennis Competition.

There are quite a few retired players there like McEnroe and Kournikova. Kinda like half competitive/half fun I think. Its not the WTA or anything.
