I have to agree. Some of the new people that joined, act like dicks on here. They don't mesh well and make silly threads. It was fun when people could disagree and have a healthy debate. I miss some of the old members that only post on here occasionally. Perhaps people should not be able to post a new thread unless they have a certain point count. It will cut down on the stupidity.

I'm not sure how true this is, but it seems FreeOnes has kind of exploded popularity wise the past 2 years. With all these contests, a bunch of new people are joining and as a result, we're getting a watered down board. Also, the good ole days some of these members are talking about were the bad new days to someone. It's a cycle. November 2011 will be the good ole days to someone in a couple years.

Does anybody else find it insulting when people talk about how **** the board is, and how there is no good members left??

The same thing is seen on other boards I am a member of. Today the people on the internet think they always ahve to be a tough guy. Its the kind of the same in the real world if you ask me. So it might not be the board changing a whole lot but more that society is changing.

to many chiefs here now..and not enough indians...you do the math

how exactly can you act like a tough guy on a message board?

This is sad but true.

Plenty of ways but I also think he is referring to inflated egos.

Yes, because the board was friendlier a few years ago. It is not easy for newer members to establish themselves in FreeOnes Talk more recently, as certain existing members are at best intolerant of them and at worst downright mean.

I remember a few years ago having to break up a group of some 'popular' members for creating a little group to specifically harass newbies. So I think it was just as hard back then for newbies to establish a personality as it is today.

We had certain 'intolerant' members of newbies back in the day and we still have them now. And if one of them goes away, we'll have someone step up and take their place.

The mods are far less stuck up now than they were in the past! Maybe its because they just know they can't get rid of me! :D

This is a good thing to hear! We've been working hard to ease up on things. ;-)

Oh, pish posh. F.O.N.D. was good, clean fun. There's no way Becks and senob would've been a part of it otherwise. I do miss my title of asshole-in-chief, though... :(

Some of the new changes are not to my liking. Figuring out how to upload pics took me quite a while (that may be my own fault, as I was hammer-ass ***** the first time I tried). I do like the layout and some of the other features are not totally infuriating.

I have noticed a polarization, but I imagine you would find that anywhere. It just seems that some of the tone has gotten a little nastier and the responses, a little less well thought out. Some jerkface actually used the phrase "Just shut up." How enlightened. Some of the topics cover and re-cover the same subject matter and need to be merged or closed as they just seem to clutter the place up.

Some of the mods are a little quick bringing down the ban hammer. You know who you are.

Overall, the board seems to have been dumbed down a bit over the course of the last couple years and people are not as polite as they used to be.

I think the 'politness' on the board reflects the newer generations of members were getting. I mean, go out to a public place and take a good look at the 18-25 year olds. If they can't be polite in a tangible public place, why the hell are they going to magically be polite on a message board?

I also think the current state of American politics is bringing every political discussion in the world down to a terrible, highly polarized level just now. That certainly seems to be ******** over into the board.

Spot on old chap, spot on.

The members back then were much more... um... interesting? Thought-provoking? Entertaining? Something else? I'm not sure which of those it was, but the board was much more interesting when I first joined.

There was always a good balance of serious threads and nonsensical threads that kept the board fun for everyone.

In my time here there was one period I thought was the most fun and creative. One where the board also felt the most unified, the most like a community. I think it stretched from around mid 2007 to around mid 2008. The names that spring to mind from that "era" (and forgive me as I'm sure I'll forget a few who should be mentioned) are senob, tunsty, christmas ape, dick van cock, dr motorcity, negator, chef, torre, AFA, d-rock, jod, mcrocket, minidog. GSB, BlueBalls and titsrock were all relatively new at the time but also contributed. It was a great mix. I used to look forward to coming here every day.

There are still a lot of excellent posters here today, but the tenor of the board is different than it was during that stretch.
