I was reading a reply in another thread which made me wonder about the good old forum days at FreeOnes.

I don't plan to leave. Just not post much. Not because of the new board design but because I never got my fuckin smilie. And quite frankly this place isn't nearly as much fun as it was a few years ago

Do you old timers all think all was better a few years ago on this board?

If yes, what do you think would be the reason for this?

Thanks a bunch!!!

I'm too young on this forum in join date years to properly address this issue. I do miss **** guy though.... :bawling:

well but when were the good old days? In internet years FreeOnes is a dinosaur so 2009 might very well be the good old days.

I say the forum is better now.

That may have to do with me having worked at customer service for a communication company where we had pretty much system changes every year and new software meant a whole new look and feel of doing work.

Yet things tend to be better in terms of getting things done

I really like I don't have to snip out the youtube video code and hand-type the

At 47 I am an old timer compared to most of the posters here. There were good things about the good old days and bad. Looking back, I don't know how we ever got by without the internet.

I like living in the present.

please note, im talking about the good old days on this forum. So now compared to a few years ago...

The members back then were much more... um... interesting? Thought-provoking? Entertaining? Something else? I'm not sure which of those it was, but the board was much more interesting when I first joined. Regulars like sputnikgirl, becks, senob, Lone Gunman, slowhand, chef, violator, torre, dr. death, Dave Rhino, mini d, tunsty, Dr. Motorcity, Lady Love, hell, even DVC, fox, and BigBadBrody made this an interesting and fun place to frequent. Back then there were always at least a handful of interesting threads on the first and second pages of Talk that were worth posting something in. Back then we didn't regularly get bombarded with pointless threads by a single member who was just adding to his post count without really contributing to the board. There was always a good balance of serious threads and nonsensical threads that kept the board fun for everyone.

These days there are usually only one or two threads at a time that pique my interest enough to make worthwhile contributions. Half the time the Talk section is littered with post count spam threads like "I'm gonna send a friend request to an OCSM. I hope she accepts me," and about 15 more such bullshit threads by the same person on the first page alone. It's a drain to open Talk and find **** like that on a regular basis. There is more bitching and fighting between members now than there used to be, and that often takes the fun out of being here. I often find myself logging in just because there's **** that needs moderating, but not because I wanna stick around bullshitting like I used to. There are days when even doing that seems like a chore.

I think that about sums it up.

Member, you member...
Beside the board being slow and cumbersome now and my avatar dying a slow death - had to get that out of the way.

What GSB stated is spot on.
Back in the D, I used to think about logging in after work just to see what was going on.
I haven't felt that in a few years now.
The little infighting, the funny stuff being written, the personalities of the members was very
diverse. It also seemed that we cared about each other back then. I know that seems weird on the Net, but that's how it felt. There was a sense that what we contributed was taken to heart.
The good old Freeone's days.

It definitely was a whole lot more fun back then. Although to think of why, I can't really come up with anything conclusive. A lot of the larger characters who kept much of the conversation feeling fresh and alive have fallen or ventured forth into pastures new which could be a reason I suppose.

EDIT: GSB pretty much summed it up.

And yet, I'm still here. That's depressing.

I think I'm going to go run a hot bath and open up my wrists with a straight razor whilst listening to Bjork.

The good old Freeone's days.

Thanks guys, its input like this im after.

I remember a lot of people getting involved in the bush kerry wars, one clan opposed to another during the elections of 2004 but also better friendship was here. I do remember the story of Lisa, a guy who ****** himself for a girl and who ended ****** permanently. I also remember the war between freeones and one member in particular, lord raven.
As D rock and jod pointed out, the older members were much more contributive to the board with good and constructive threads than a lot of the threads we see now. Over the years, I have seen members getting mad at each other and fighting against each other for a yes and a no. Also, let's not forget that people like Nightfly who was the biggest whiny crybaby the board has made run out two ocsms, totally unforgivable and also had a holier than thou attitude that too was a part of the good old days of the board.

Portishead is much more appropriate for the occasion.
As D rock and jod pointed out...

{AHEM} I haven't seen D-Rock reply to this thread yet, nor had I changed my user name at last count.

People do not like the changes. This board is working a bit better, but it looks like a step down from the previous board.
You can thank vBulletin for that. They are getting lazy.

Remember... **** told me there'd be days like this, there'll be days like this my **** said. :sing:

I'm not sure how true this is, but it seems FreeOnes has kind of exploded popularity wise the past 2 years. With all these contests, a bunch of new people are joining and as a result, we're getting a watered down board. Also, the good ole days some of these members are talking about were the bad new days to someone. It's a cycle. November 2011 will be the good ole days to someone in a couple years.

Does anybody else find it insulting when people talk about how **** the board is, and how there is no good members left??

Well Diva, you are possibly the worst poster on the board. This faux moral outrage isn't going to change that fact in anyone's mind.

I've accepted that, but I'm looking out for the new members who might not be as comfortable with their status on the board.
