the reason why soccer's more popular in undeveloped countries is that it's so easily played. think about it, football needs pads and goal posts, hockey needs pads, and sticks, and basketball needs nets. all you need to play soccer is a ball. if kids in undeveloped countries, like places in africa, south america, and asia, ever get leisure time, they problably pass the time playing soccer. those kids have incentive to make it big. that's why it's so common. (i took world cultures class in summer school)

Got that right Bloody! Only 3 months away. I'm getting psyched already.

You're a Rangers fan. What do you have to be psyched about in three months? :nono:

That's fine.:dunno: But to real hockey fans my post is exactly what most want to see. It doesn't matter but I'm American and my favorite sport is hockey.

And saying most is relative. If everyone in this country was asked if they like the NFL I promise that more than half would say no.

I have to disagree. The NFL is king in America and it has passed baseball as America's pastime. I did a research paper last semester on the success and popularity of the NFL. The NFL is by far the most successful sports league in the WORLD.

I dont know if its been said, but I think its pretty damn obvious why soccer is so popular worldwide including the United States.

You dont need money to play this sport. You dont need any equipment or anything that is going to be available to a certain class of people . Soccer to me is the ONLY sport where you just need a sort of ball and an open field...I hate soccer, but certainly as a worldwide sport it is common to everybody, and is a sport that crosses all lines of class, race, culture etc...

Its popular here in the US, but in a society that markets and makes HUGE amounts of money by creating leagues such as the NFL, MLB, etc and where kids are throw into organized sports at early ages it really makes 100% sense that soccer is not that popular. Kids only see what is on the market. And that is not soccer here in the US.

He's right. It's not the most popular league in the world but it's easily the most successful. Look at the list of the most valuable sports franchises; the majority of them are NFL. The only league that I think would be comparable is the English Premier League, and the problem there is that you've got leagues in Spain and other European countries.

Soccer still isn't going anywhere in America for this reason: People like me, who only watch soccer whenever the World Cup is on, are hated by actual soccer fans. They would rather have us not watch soccer at all rather than start watching soccer and rooting for the U.S. during the World Cup. It kills them to see people watching who don't normally. I have heard people say things to other people along the lines of "you don't even know the rules" and "if you don't know what's going on then don't watch." Ironically, diehard soccer fans here are actually hurting soccer's progress here in the U.S..

Every year, a Harris Interactive Survey asks Americans to name their favorite sport. The NFL has won each of the last 43 surveys easily. It has the highest total revenue of the four major sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) at over $6 billion a year.

I agree but I still say that if you polled everyone in this country more than half would say they don't like or watch football. Technically that means "most" people don't like football. :dunno:

I just took a look at that list. The NBA's popularity has really fallen in since 2002. Goddamn.

And I do the same thing with NFL bandwagoners. It's like, fuck...to watch my mom watch the Queens and doesn't even know what a fucking three and out is is just retarded. Almost as retarded as people who watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Sheesh...how retarded can people get.

And as far as I'm concerned, that's great. Now butt buddies Stern and Bettman can shove it where the sun don't shine, since they've been trying to destroy the NHL since Bettman took over. They've always worked against the NHLPA and with the billionaire owners.

Cookie Monster > Roger Goodell > Jean-Claude Van Damme > Slobodan Milosevic > David Stern...

That is the dumbest comment I have ever seen on FreeOnes. What does that even have to do with anything? Van Damme is obviously the best thing in that chain and yet you have him third? You sir, have no hope.
