Maybe in your part of the country, but here in the West where we have sophisticated tastes, fresh local food, clean water and physical and mental agility beyond the average… well, we love our soccer.

Not to mention dirt bikes, MTB, snowboarding, skateboarding, rock climbing wake -boarding -surfing, martial arts, windsailing et al.

We did all that easy conventional stuff (we still love a good Celtics/Lakers feud), but we've just moved on to the harder stuff.

:p

They don't play soccer in backwoods USA. You're right it's more of a preppy sport.

It's also a poor immigrant sport.

Yeah. In the third world it's the sport of choice. In Third World America the sports of choice are b-ball and football.

Tell me these aren't all suburbs:

The number one nationally ranked team - Apple Valley - is a HUGE hockey hot bed. They always are among the nations best high school rated hockey teams. It doesn't surprise me that those rich yuppies are the best soccer team in the country either. BTW, the girls out there are fucking phenominal!

I've often wondered this myself. I remember seeing in a sports history book that the first football was round, like a soccer ball, but brown. It's funny that in soccer (world football), everyone except the goally uses their feet, and in American football, everyone uses their hands, except for a punter or quarterback.

That's because we're just so effin' brilliant, we Americans. Shouldn't the name be "handball" or some shit?

No one ever told me quarterbacks don't use their hands. I guess I was doing it wrong all those years. :dunno:

The U.S needs to develop their own superstar. Landon Donovan is probably the closest we have to a superstar but we need to find that one star player who can develop into one of the world's best. We need our own Cristiano Ronaldo, our own Messi, our own Rooney.

I think it just that people in Europe and South America have grown up with football. Its part of the community and the fans make the atmosphere incredible which can make the whole occasion enjoyable. In America its slightly different because its not had generations of fans and teams to let the game develop. In most european countries your dad went with his dad to watch the local team and you went with him and it gets passed down the generations. It will develop soon enough in America although most people hate it.

FIFA just rated us like 13 out of what, 200 something countries? I'd say that's pretty damn good. I hope Donovan is on the squad in '14 for his last world cup. :hatsoff:

I got an idea: Can we quit bumping this thread?

The one and only.
Does soccer have this? I think not...

soccer doesn't need some over-produced music sung by a Mary Kay dream client to sell the product.

Americans need shiny distractions.

I, as an American, can watch both with equal passion

Agree:thefinger

Excuse me? Don't you get involved in this. Considering I'm the only who kept your little thread here going for so long, I think you better be replacing that :thefinger with a .
