Vatican calls Catholicism "Only True Church"

It is a bit odd. Just days ago they issued a whole deal against religious bigotry, but they may have just committed it. Sad really.

Have you noticed that only the insane and religious groups claim that God has a direct link with them? I'm glad that the catholic church knows and accepts their role in all this...now if only those "other" churches would realize that they're totally wrong...

Of course they're going to say that. Does anybody think they're going to come out and say now that all that papal supremacy and papal infallibility stuff they have been shoving down people's throats for the last 1,600 years was wrong and they have no idea what they're talking about any more than anybody else, that God doesn't directly guild the Catholic church any more than any others, that the whole basis behind this is from loose and flimsy lines in the Bible that almost anything can be read into and in fact there is precious little in there indicating that a line of succession for the leadership of Christians must run though them, that the pope can be wrong even though most of humanity obviously knows that's true (unless they still think the sun revolves around the Earth), and the only reason they pushed the issue was so they could have greater control over the masses and force people to do what they want and not for spiritual enlightenment.

That's what Religion is all about - saying that you own the truth and everyone else is wrong.

Ratzinger is a crazy old man.

German news magazine DER SPIEGEL wrote one year ago that the Pope and Islamic terrorists pursue the same goal:

They want mankind to fall back behind the principles of Kant, Rousseau and Emerson: Individuality is frowned upon, the benefits of an open society are evil!

We've heard this song before: My God is greater than your God... 14th century thinking!

But we shouldn't be surprised. The smiling, whispering old man is not the "Benedetto" (sic!) he likes to be, but rather is still the head of the same organization which called itself "INQUISITION" not too long ago.*

(* Ratzinger was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith before he was elected Pope.)

And these cases are not just an aboration, the article mentions 75% of churches had abusers in them at one time or another.I heard on TV the church will have to sell some assets and borrow money to pay the claims. Why anyone would lend money to this child molesting cult is beyond me.Guess they still have lots of collateral to borrow against, plus they pay no taxes.I need to start a church, but one that allows its priests to have normal sex lives lol.

Maybe it is that my English is not good enough but I didn't uinderstand what it written in ths article the same way you seem to do.
Most of you talk about one religion being compared (and self-proclaimed superior) to other ones. It it not what he said (if I understand well). This is the quote from the newspaper.

With Pope Benedict XVI's blessing, the Vatican released a document Tuesday that said the Catholic Church is the one true church and other Christian bodies shouldn't be called churches.

To me it means not one religion compared to other ones, but only within christian chuches only. So, among all the Christian churches, the only good and true one is the Catholic one... and reading between the lines it means also that the pope is the only true spiritual leader and the only one you should obey and give your money to.

Among al the stupidities said by ratzinger the is not the worst.

I used to think Papal Infallibility was an ancient doctrine untill I learned it dates only from 1870.
