Why the Pentagon reports this is beyond me. It makes the US look bad, it makes our soldiers look bad, it breaks the bond of trust, and it pushes the common Iraqis into the hand of the anti-American groups in Iraq. Given, I can, to an extent, understand this reaction to the distress of seeing your comrade killed; however, I also think that more should be expected of a well-trained and disciplined American soldier.

I have a brother in Iraq, he is in the Marine Cor., the shit they see and have to deal with, I don't blame them when they snap. How would you feel when you see your buddy, that is like your brother die? I know they are an image of our country, but try to be in their shoes. And BigDaddy, you know, I don't blame US soldiers for snapping and going crazy and killing innocent people, either. I blame them somewhat for signing up in the first place, and I blame their families (when applicable) for supporting, sometimes even convincing or just sending their kids to unholy war to kill other people's kids, and most of all I blame the gvmt for starting it and convincing all the people of this land that somehow they are protecting us by doing these heinous things.

But just as you can forgive an American soldier who snaps after seeing his friends killed, can't you also forgive some of these "evil" terrorists and Islamic extremists, who were probably, possibly, once just getting on with lives like you or I, only perhaps they saw their kids blown to bits, maybe during the last Gulf War, or during the US/USSR funded and supplied Iran-Iraq war that cost a million lives both sides combined... remember, we say, they're insane and evil, but we're just under traumatic stress and pushed to breaking point, but the truth is, there really isn't as much difference between us and them as people like to pretend. In fact, in Iraq, die hard ultra-nationalist patriots like, say, Philbert, *are* the extremists and the terrorist supporters.

I see no difference between the two. I don't care which flag or belief system you adhere to. If you support murder in the name of your cause, then yes, you are a terrorist, and I am sorry that your morality and respect for human life have descended so low.

I don't hate terrorists or US soldiers, but I don't see much difference between the two.

The difference is:

Any US soldier committing an atrocity will be held accountable by a court martial.
The al-Qaeda terrorist will be hailed as a martyr.
