UNITED STATES 2

Spain 0

Maybe Soccer IS going to IGNITE:flame: in the U.S.!

Bring on Brazil for the Confed Cup Final:thefinger

i'am sure El Spain played their z squad

You have to say well done :hatsoff: but dont get ahead of yourselves.

I mean, it's not like you beat Andorra  in European qualifying now is it....

^
Nope...Fabregas, Capdevilla, Ramos, Torres.....they put out the Big Guns and got blanked today. They had the Lion's share of possession but it was just a gutty U.S. performance all around. Jay DeMerit, Gooch, Dempsey, Feilhaber...everyone in the US jersey came to play today!

(I will concede that Spain probably had Brazil on their minds....but they gave up a second half goal)

What is refreshing from a US perspective is that the 2 goals were LEGIT. No PKs!!

It was a hell of an effort by the US, on a neutral field. Spain threw everything at the U.S.

Looking at the two teams you have to give credit to them. A good win :hatsoff:

.... but still, Andorra EQ!!! :nono:

:1orglaugh

In 1992 or 1996 (when the US organised the World Championship) they got pretty far as well, but still, soccer didn't 'ignite'.

Look at them. They win one (rather) big international soccer game and immediately they start fluffing up. :D
You Americans are only interested in a sport, when you are "Number One", aren't you? ;)

A hell of an effort? How about "sheer luck". ;) During some parts of the game, Spain had one chance per minute. You were lucky you weren't shot into the next millenium. :D I have not seen many games that went that lucky for the underdog.

In any event, most European soccerfans don't care about the Confederations Cup anyway. It's not really representative.

So, have at it. Maybe you'll actually beat Brazil. They're definitely not as good as Spain at the moment.

I know what you are saying. Part of the problem is that we have too many fucking sports. Professional baseball, men & woman's basketball, football, hockey, Golf. Not to mention these same sports in the collegiate level. Most Americans are only aware of US soccer every four years during the World Cup competition. The MLS still has a long way to go in order for soccer to gain in popularity.

Well done to them I say. Luck had a lot to do with it, but their rock-solid defense played a major part.

go USA go USA

Heard somewhere they're now being called TMNT.

(Not what you're thinking.:)) It stands for The Men's National Team.

Is there actually someone who gives a shit about the Confederations Cup?

No.

that being said, good for them. Why are you guys all being such a bunch of crybabies about it? Sure Spain is the better team, but that means jack shit. They lost the game and the US team has every right to be glad that they won. Don't give me that shit. Since when in the world are sports fans interested in feel good no winners or losers, "you all gave it your best shot..."? I guess when it's not your team that won.

and shame on you for judging the team politically. That's the beauty of world football in how the sport can transcend political differences and just be about two teams trying their best and respecting each other as athletes.

Now, now, European friends...no need to slam the Confederations Cup. All the teams that played in it this year put out strong sides and have played to win it. It is a great World Cup preparation. Hell, the U.S. hasn't even qualified *officially* for the 2010WC yet.

Spain looked a bit panicky right before the 2nd U.S. goal (around the 70th minute). Though they had the possession pretty much the entire game, they started wild firing from long distance around the 75th minute to the end. They seemed to surrender any corner kick set plays too. They decided for quick starts rather than big, lofty corner kicks. I bet they would like to have changed that tactic, post-match.

Even if we lose in the Finals on Sunday...this is REDEMPTION for shit play against Italy and Brazil earlier.

The discrepancy in Professional Payroll on the field, between Spain and the U.S. is probably awesome and might make this the greatest upset (by dollars) ever?

Total Spain payroll on the field -- $180 million (U.S.)????
Total U.S. payroll on the field -- $3 million (U.S.) ????
