Google’s Android platform is now the most popular operating system among people who bought a smartphone in the past six months, Nielsen reported Tuesday. It’s yet another sign that Android is shaking up the mobile marketplace, but what does it really mean for Apple and for smartphone buyers?

Apple built the computer, only to have microsoft steal it away and takeover the market...their downfall was that Apple wanted full control, while microsoft let anybody in on what they wanted...it seems like deja vu again for Apple, this time google will be the crushers...

Google's Android Phones are not targeted to the same market then the Apple's IPhone and it's the same thing for BlackBerry, Windows 7 Phones, etc. So I think Apple will stay strong and Google will continue to appeal people wanting open phones (well as long as it's not locked by your carrier).

I do believe that this will either force Apple's hand to expand beyond AT&T or they will become a minor player in the market just like they are in the PC market. It doesn't seem like Apple will ever learn.

I am personally hoping to get one of the HTC 4G Google phones once I upgrade.

Does anyone remember when a phone was just a fucking phone. I don't know if it's the fact that most of my friends are poor, but I only know like 3 people who have a "smartphone" everyone else just has a regular phone with the most advanced feature being customized ringtone. Why do you need your phone be able to do all this shit for? Buy a computer. Do you really need to bust your phone out and check your 401K or some stupid shit while you're walking down the street? smartphones are for pretentious assholes who want to show off, and their fate is being hit by a bus while not paying attention. agree?

Android and WebOS will take market share back from Apple.
Both Android and WebOS are easier to make apps for, don't cost a fortune to license and don't require you to rely on Apples approval program which makes no sense.

I do that all the time to my friends that have iPhones. My favorite trick is tethering it to my netbook with the built capabilities vs. having to "jailbreak" ie hack my phone and then download an app to make it all work.

I love my HTC HD2. Can't wait till I can upgrade to the android version in a year!
