The Rise of Android: What Does It Mean for Apple, Users?

I think it mainly boils down to the person. A Professional or Business Person will allways need the extra Tech. Yes, some buy cause they like to show off, "Look At What I Have", and don't need it where a regular phone is all they need. To me, I don't need a smart phone, and I have three different business's. I just need a regular Phone & a Very Good LapTop. My take is both Apple & Android is allready behind times, just like Computers. Buy Today, It's Outdated.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
As a nurse clinnician, I have to be able to access a secure database with peoples medical information. I also need to do it while way out in the country on the corner of dirt road 1 and dirt road 2. Where I live geographically neither verizon or sprint has any semblance of a signal. I get reception well with AT&T because they bought up the centennial towers when the purchased cenbtennial. Centennial had the best service by far. Those of you who live in a big city or by heavily populated areas probably dont have this issue, there a cell towers on every building top. I have to be picky on good coverage and AT&T is the one. As for a computer usage. Let mne see, I have to lug a stethescope, gown's, gloves, medical supplies, blood pressure cuff, sometimes an EKG machine and all the paperwork associated with the task at hand. I also have to be able to log onto a secure site and access a secure server.. Hmm lug an additional 5lbs computer or just use my iphone, neither the droid or the HTC can do it so hmm I think I will stick my great functioning iphone that can actually get a signal. If anything, I think the other machines should jump ship to AT&T and get off those archaic slow to grow companies. Maybe then I might concider a different phone.

Your situation is what the iPhone was made for. I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb when I say that most of us here would not face similar daily work circumstances when it comes to computer availability. I also happened to notice you didn't comment on its serviceability as an actual phone. That's mostly what I need it for and in that capacity I find it to be incredibly lacking. As I said, it is a hand-held computer that also does a minimal job of making phone calls.

I also must take exception on your assertion that AT&T has the best nationwide coverage (bold emphasis in quote is mine). I get more dropped calls and loss of signal with my iPhone in one week than I ever did with my old Verizon Blackberry in an entire year. Being in sales, the ability to contact my customer base by phone anywhere in the USA is the #1 requirement I look for in a phone and I find both the iPhone and AT&T to be an extremely poor choice when it comes to accessibility....especially when you're out in the middle of someplace like west Texas. I don't know what remote areas in the USA you refer to but Verizon's coverage is by far the best from my perspective and I plan on returning to them as soon as my contract with AT&T is up. I can't wait.

Glad you are happy with your iPhone. :hatsoff: I'm sure not.

Opening your post just drained the battery in my laptop and burned both my retinas....

Geez, they have a store now?
Probably doesn't mean anything, other than more competition.
At the end, the iphone still seems more user-friendly (although I do not own either one, nor do I plan to anytime soon).

I have not used an Android yet, but I have a few friends that own them and they say they are the best phone they've ever owned. Personally, I still love my Blackberry.

I think that it will mean that Apple will try and out do the andriod, and people will always buy Apple because of the name and looks

Nothing, Apple users will still buy anything that Jobs puts on the market.

Thats kind of funny cause I really dont care for mac's or anything else by Apple. I just find this one particular item very handy for my life. Now if microsoft does turn its zune into a phone like rumors have it, and they go to at&t I might concider trying it out.

Im sure Apple will stay around, smart cell phones are eventually going to replace computers altogether, so whichever company creates a better mobile hand held porn apparatus is the one that will be bigger, but the other will have a similar product before too long so theyll still be around

The best part about iPhones? They're nothing close to being original, inventive technology. They're mere copycats of previously existing phones and, the kicker? They didn't even copy it all that well. The iPhone seems to have more problems than the phones that it ripped its technology from. Yet, people still insist that the iPhone is the best phone out there. HA...funny.

And, most of those same people rip on BlackBerry users, as if their phones suck. Where exactly do you think Steve Jobs stole his iPhone technology from? Yeah, that's right...Research in Motion...the people who make...GASP...that's right...BlackBerries!!!

Marketing...gotta love it.

The rise of Android is a good thing for everybody, including Apple users.

Android is based on Linux, which is Open Source, as opposed to CLOSED SOURCE and jealously proprietary Apple.

That being said, Android is a bad thing for Apple and it's closed system, "hold you hostage" approach to computing.

Android (being Linux) means more eyeballs on the source code, less vulnerabilities surviving for very long. Yeah, Android! Bring it on!

Android (Linux) is actually truer to the original "power to the people" vision of Apple (via "Woz") as opposed to the greedy, elitist approach being pushed by Steve Jobs.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
sorry, I simply don't pay that much attention to this stuff. Me and Kenny Powers, we're like the last two mother fuckin' dinosaurs and shit

apple built the computer, only to have microsoft steal it away and takeover the market...

Whoa whoa whoa, what?! Microsoft hasn't built a computer in their entire existence. Microsoft writes software, and always has. Now if you want to make the case that they stole that, you've got a point. IBM "built" the computer long before Apple did. Apple just built smaller, more tightly controlled PCs.

Google's Android Phones are not targeted to the same market then the Apple's IPhone and it's the same thing for BlackBerry, Windows 7 Phones, etc.

Uh, yes they are. They're all after the smartphone market, plain and simple.

apple users have nothing to fear at all .and it doesnt matter that they only have a small market share in pc they look and are way more stable than any windows computer ever will be with its constant updates and all the rest of the windows bullshit

Come on, bud. :nono:

Does anyone remember when a phone was just a fucking phone. I don't know if it's the fact that most of my friends are poor, but I only know like 3 people who have a "smartphone" everyone else just has a regular phone with the most advanced feature being customized ringtone. Why do you need your phone be able to do all this shit for? Buy a computer. Do you really need to bust your phone out and check your 401K or some stupid shit while you're walking down the street? smartphones are for pretentious assholes who want to show off, and their fate is being hit by a bus while not paying attention. agree?

Why even have the phone at all? I mean, remember when all we had were landlines?

Android and WebOS will take market share back from Apple.

WebOS doesn't have the market support right now to even be a player in the game. I'd be surprised if it makes it past it's next iteration.

It is so funny how some people want to rip on this thing or that thing. Its the same fight as the xbox vs playstation vs nintendo. It all comes down to what a person wants. Yes I have an Iphone, why? Well lets see, I need a smart phone to handle email, internet searches, calenders and appointments while I am out in the country. I also want a phone that sinc's easily with my computer, my car, my home stereo. The droid is not bad, but the problem is Verizons services are lacking once I get outside the city. The HTC, thats pretty cool, but sprints services where I am, ha dont steo more then 2 feet or you will loose all connection. So this leaves me with one option centennial wireless now owned by AT&T. The best phone AT&T has is the iphone. It handles everything I need plus I can actually connect to both data part and the actual phone where the others give me "no service" messages. Also, if I am really in the boonies which happens atleast once a week, I can switch back to centennials 2g service and get 3 bars anywhere but I lose my data plan while on the 2g network. Oh yeah netflix is on the iphone now which pretty much takes care of all my movie issues.

Your experience is by in large the exception to the rule. AT&T has come in dead last in both coverage and call quality from both Consumer Reports and a number of other organizations.

In addition, the comparison to gaming consoles is a bit of a stretch, as with the iPhone, you're limited in your abilities, essentially at the will of the company that produces it. This is very clearly not the case with the consoles.

i own the droid incredible. for the most part, its name holds true. my minor complaint is that since the update last month, the batter life usage is higher b/c the advanced task killer app doesnt stop all apps in the background.
however, with the new updates, there is flash player on the phone, so it can truly be dubbed the porn phone since you can watch videos on websites and such :)
