They need to build a solid run defense. Especially in a division with AP and Forte.

Orlovsky is a good enough qb for the time being. And they have Drew Stafford. QB isn't he problem in Detroit. It is protecting the QB. And stopping the other team.

Detroit will probably get Andre Smith first overall and then trade Dallas' first round pick with another pick to get Sam Bradford in the top 10. I can't see anybody other than St Louis taking a QB that high.

Are you kidding me? Have you watched any Rams games this year? QB is the least of their problems. As a die-hard Rams fan, I will be absolutely blown away and totally pissed if they picked a QB in the first round. We need a stud WR and a killer middle LB or FS a helluva lot more than we need a QB. Bulger would be just fine if we had a decent O-line.....but we need to get those guys through free agency. We've wasted way too many picks in recent years on bad linemen.

it's all about the qb's in the league...once u have a leader leading your team...anything can happen, tom brady, peyon manning comes to mind...these guys lead there teams to victory...when it comes down to being a hero in a 2 min drill, it's the qb's job and your leader out there to do the job and get it done...orlovsky isnt the future, neither is culpepper, they need a franchise qb, that they can stick with

Of the first 10 picks--half of the teams need to draft a QB first. If you are a decent college QB this is the year to declare!

If Bradford stays in school, Stafford will likely go first at QB. If Stafford doesn't stay and try again for a national championship. Nate Davis of Ball State is a possibility. There really aren't very many senior QBs worth mentioning...maybe Harrell at Tech is the likely early pick. If the star QBs stay--and they both just might, if OK loses to Florida--OL will be a big early round fave position. The Lions get four picks in the first 65. If I was the GM I'd consider who is replacing Marinelli. They will likely forego QB and opt for OL and defensive picks, waiting until next year when a slew of QB talent is likely to come out. Andre Smith is a safe choice as their first pick. I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit chooses at least two players on D from the Trojan program.

the lions need so much defense and there will be plenty of qb's next year. hell the 3 they have will function right now

With the Lions it's going to take more than one year to fix their problems anyhow. It will take multiple good drafts and smart free agent signings. If some person is really that good and will help them in the future I don't see why they can't take him now, sit him or have that person play backup if they need to, and they can wait until they can put together a more coherent team. It's not like they should be trying to make a Superbowl run in the next year or two.

the nfl is a win now league...u cant look towards 2-3 years down the road...esp the veterans on the team...pretty sure the players arent looking 2-3 years down the line to form a superbowl team, their goal is to win the division and see where that goes

Great point young guns look at the body of work the Ravens have done with a rookie QB and we have been saying the same thing about the Lions for the last seven years.

All the teams that have made dramatic turnarounds this year had a lot more solid core of players and were deeper with better backups than the Lions are. Just look at the players on the Ravens' defense that were there last year and were there this year. The Lions have Calvin Johnson, Ernie Simms (who played mediocre this year), Jason Hanson their aging kicker, and a bunch of empty space. There is not many people to build a team around. As bad as the whole team was, their defense was historically bad. The Lions aren't a couple of people away from turning it around. The entire defense is bad, both lines are bad, they don't have a quarterback worth mentioning, they don't have a good running back or much of a running game, they could use more decent wide receivers and tight ends. They also need a bunch of decent backups. I would say they have to make 20+ solid pickups to start having a credible chance of being good. They might as well build now. Nobody will blame the next coach for not having a winning season next year. Even better for them, even winning a few games will seem great compared to what happened to them this year. They might as well use that leeway and the added time to do it right and build a good team.

yeah, but one thing the ravens have and have had for a long time is a solid defense, year in and year out

I think the San Diego game will be close. It will probably be another fieldgoal fest similar to the 11-10 snoozer they played earlier. I think San Diego's best WR got arrested for DUI earlier this week.

The only blowout will be the Cards being taken behind the woodshed by Carolina...
