The Best/Smartest Show on Television - HBO's "The Wire"

this was a great show - almost everything is crap in comparison. However, I also like Dexter and Brotherhood. As has been outlined before Showtime is the 'new' HBO

I've mentioned this before, but the one and only episode that I saw was probably the most boring hour of TV I've ever watched.obviously it was an episode that was setting up some other events in the show,so I'm not gonna say the the show "sucks" just because I saw a boring episode of a situation that I didn't know what was going on.I will say this though, out of 7 season,I never, ever, not even once, saw an episode of The Shield that I didn't like.

I'll watch the first few episodes of The Wire and give it a chance, but I'm not making any promises.

And in return, all I ask is that you watch The Shield,if you haven't already.:hatsoff:

I have and I will, the last season hasnt been shown here yet, I like the show, but in my opinion theres nothing that compares the sheer masterpiece that is The Wire.

I gotta tell ya. If you're looking for a high paced show like the Sheild is (i think) its not it. The Wire is a show designed to take into every detail so the payoff is better.

If you need to be inticed by the show start with the first few episodes of season 4. Trust me.

Just re-watched the season finale...again.

It bothers me that they don't conclude what happens to Avon is that closing montage. They show WeeBay with Chris in the prison yard, but no Avon.

He was a huge part of 3 seasons and even had a minor role in season 5. Shoulda had some closure on him.

Marlo Manson

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hallelujah, Marlo Manson has FINALLY seen season 5 in its entirety! I must say I loved it, I think they could have diminished the whole newspaper scenario to a lesser extent and more spin on the the streets and the police, but for the most part everybodies stories were touched in a way!

@ justaguy85, I think them not showing Avon in the closing montage was just cuz he (Avon) was the one who marlo had to go through to get the connect from the russian to contact the greeks, therefore they already established Avon as the KING of the penitentiary sort of speak.. IMO they established Avon's control of the yard. and if he would have gotten shanked or something, I am sure it would have been shown, or suggested in the end. so AVON controls the penitentiary..

IMO Mcnulty, carver, Freemon got off easy, for what they did, but when you associate that with what bunny did in seasons 3 - 4 which was worse??

and Carcetti although he tried to keep his word, back stabbed Daniels in the end! I tried to be as vague as possible in case some still haven't seen all of the seasons or haven't gotten to 5 yet like myself for a long fuckin time..

That bogus reporter SCOTT ended up winning a Pulitzer?? or was it a lesser award?

I was waiting to see if they showed dukie's fate, and that was addressed, and I feel for people like dukie! I am surprised Micheal wouldn't look out for dukie since he (Micheal) kind of assumed OMAR's occupation!!

Randy wagstaff got screwed as well! namond ended up being the lucky one out of the youngins, and I was overjoyed to see that little shitbird kenard caught charges!! I was elated to see snoop, and cheese get smoked! and I was shocked that savino was still alive??

all in all my favorite MARLO beat the system, and kind of left the door open for a 6th season??? MAYBE!! if they reconsider to continue the show by popular demand??? ::praying and wishing:: but not out of the realm of possibility, but not likely, or perhaps a spin off series of some sort.. again not impossible or likely but not out of the realm of possibility either??

IMHO the wire is the BEST television series of all-time!!

I've always wondered if Marlo is a reference to Heart of Darkness, since he's the most brutal of all the characters in the Wire.

I've always wondered if Marlo is a reference to Heart of Darkness, since he's the most brutal of all the characters in the Wire.

Although he showed no remorse or was as brutal as need be to obtain the crown, he did exhibit genuine concern for his people! he tried to barter down the charges for his crew, but they knew the consequence's @ the same time, but Marlo I am sure would have changed or adapted his mentality to adjust to a more compassionate, everyday living type person like everybody else! just my :2 cents:

heart of darkness is a what a movie, novel or biblical reference? thanx

Well it's a bit late for me but The Wire is coming to BBC2, so anyone who hasn't watched it now is your Chance. Tell your friends!

Thats strange, why now? Why not when it was new?

Dont you just love the BBC, it really has no idea how to use American show properly, they always get put on at about 11:45pm on a sunday night, and when they dont get any viewers they put them on even later. I wonder why that could be .

Channel 4 should have bought the rights whilst it was still on. Thats a channel that knows how to use good American shows properly.

They're showing each season on the FIOS on demand for free in case anyone has Verizon. Well free if you have a subsription to HBO. I just finished watching season one last week. It's a great show.
