Tonight, leftover Zataran's dirty rice mix with chicken
Last night was the annual party my friends have. It's a game diner, that has been scaled down from the 40 or 50 people that came, BEFORE covid, now we're down to 10-13, all close friends. The menu was changed every year, with the exception of certain appetizers. The menu last all appetizers, with no entrée for the first time ever, and we always had a fish fry to go with it all. The first few appetizers I list, are the ones we always have.
Duckmaki (Remake, but with duck breast), Walleye chowder (Lake Erie Walleye), Venison smokies, and other home cured meats, wild turkey meatballs, and smoked trout. In addition we had wood oven fired thin crust pizzas with venison, breaded, deep fried walleye bites, dove poppers, not and mild, assorted home canned pickled veggies, pickled deer hearts, and pickled pigs feet. I did not eat the deer heart, but everything else was amazing. Of course there was a great deal of beer and shots, and we had home made Kalachkie, in poppy seed, apricot and another flavor, for desert.
