So...when is Saturday Night Live going to be funny again?

SNL has gotten progressively worse over the past 5-10 years. Tina Fey wasn't even funny when she was on the show, much less as a writer. The only decent people on now are Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and sometimes Keenan Thompson. The rest of the cast is really mediocre, bordering on the sub par. At least when they had Will Ferrell still on, they could pretend the show was still halfway decent...but in the year or two since he's been gone, I can't bear to sit through an entire episode. They need better actors and better writers...or need to go off the air entirely. It could be replaced with classic episodes...I'd much rather watch the classic episodes than the crap they come up with now. It's kinda sad, because SNL was a cultural institution at one time, but now it's just pathetic.

I liked it a lot years ago when if first went on. It was going bad within 5 years. I haven't seen it in maybe 20 or so.

I didnt find Tina Fey funny in SNL either but 30 Rock is brilliant. Alex,Tracy,Tina and others makes it a funny show (can't wait S2).

SNL doesn't air here where i live but ive seen alot of episodes and i can see too that they are just riding with the fame of good old times. People watch it like machines "SNL is funny, i must watch this", its been on air for ages and will be.

I forgot that show was still on, overall saturdays have gotten real boring.

so it's still officially a show? - I thought NBC just turned the broadcast time over to a bunch of kids and use it as a test pattern to adjust equipment by

I started watching Mad TV years ago...some funny stuff from time to time, but I feel Mad TV is also in decline :(

I always felt like Mad TV was an over the top cousin of Saturday night live that was also poor and couldn't afford weekly hosts and guests :2 cents:

Mad TV seems to dry for me. Funny but immature.

The only things i like about SNL now are the Digital Shorts and thats just some of them. I still like watching the dick in a box skit.

Has Saturday Night Live ever been funny to begin with?

I think SNL is one of those shows that it's viewers think it was at it's peek whenever they first starting watching it. For instance, people around the age of 40+ think it was at it's best in the beginning when it was Akroyd, Belushi, Chase,etc... I thought it was funniest when I started watching it, when it was Sandler, Farley, Spade, etc...

So by that logic their are probably some unfortunate people out there that actually find Jimmy Fallon funny.

I started watching during the late 90's and I still think both the beginning years and the late late 80's early 90's years were funnier

It'll get funny again when I get signed to a contract. But, since that will never happen...I guess there's your answer. :dunno:

It used to be hilarious. The original cast featured the funny Beluchi and Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd

Sweet memories! :)

I doubt it will ever be again. It has its moments but the cast members that they get lately are not good at all. They keep trying the same bits over and over but they weren't funny to begin with.

It was good because they needed to compete with people going out on Saturday night with something on TV designed to get them back in. It built on the skits and short story format of Second City TV.

Now of course funny is only relative. People settle for a lot less quality on TV and everything else in their lives. I think the lesser of 2 evils motivates people to do everything from vote for President to what's on tonight?

It is only funny in spots these days and has declined since the days of Belushi,Ackroyd,Chase.I used to love the skits Belushi did as Kirk of star trek, the samauri, and landshark and others. There have been funny stuff since, the parodies of Ross Perot and his running mate come to mind,Dana Carvey as Bush but those early days were consistently funnier IMO.
