Radiohead's Thom Yorke Schools Miley Cyrus & Kanye West on Humility

03/13/2009 12:00 PM, E! Online

When Radiohead refused to meet Miley Cyrus and Kanye West at the Grammy Awards last month, the starlet threatened to "ruin" them and the rapper refused to stand for their performance. Now the In Rainbows band is fighting back.

Cyrus kicked off the feudin' during an appearance on the Johnjay and Rich radio show and rambled on for more than six minutes about how the band dissed her after she begged her manager to set up an introduction.

"I'm like, these are the people I really want to meet," she said. "I'd freak out. They're my rock gods. These are the only people that I would cry over…My manager asked and said, 'Miley's really obsessed. And they were like, 'We don't really do that.' "

She continued on in disbelief about the Thom Yorke band's lack of interest in meeting the Hannah Montana, admitting she was so disappointed about the diss, she left the show early.
"I left 'cause I was so upset," she said. "I wasn't going to watch. Stinkin' Radiohead! I'm gonna ruin them, I'm going to tell everyone."

The three-time Grammy winners responded by putting the teen in her place…

"When Miley grows up, she'll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement," the quintet said in a statement.

I don't like Radiohead, but I'm glad that somebody finally said it.

Now-a-days, kids grow up thinking that they are automatically entitled to everything, especially when they are celebrities. Just because you are on TV and make a ton of money, it doesn't mean that you are entitled to anything more than everybody else. You don't deserve things just because you are a child or a celebrity. That's not how the world works.

Also, why the FUCK would Radiohead want to meet Miley Cyrus?

Who or what the hell is a Radiohead:dunno: (rhetorical because I really don't give a fuck)

Sounds like they only gave her a lesson on how to be dickheads by blowing off a teenage fan at work(awards show). Would have been better served by meeting her & talking to her about humility perhaps. :dunno:

When did rock music become a music of such a high order that we now have Rock snobs who look down on other artists?:1orglaugh
Jazz & classical musicans are chuckling.

Its funny how something so stupid and insignificant can become a news story, we shouldnt be surprised by now it happens all the time. Child stars become brats and believe because of their "fame" they are entitled to whatever they want isnt new and as long as people continue to force or allow their children into show business and they become famous because of it, its going to continue to happen.

But give it ten or fifteen years and the story of Miley Sirus will play out like most other child star stories, after the drug addiction and the teen pregnany kick in and she's no longer "cute" anymore, she'll fade away into the background like so many other "lost souls" ;) Obviously this is just me speculating and using what has happend in the past as a guide, and I'm not quite sure why I'm eve discussing this girl anyway? The alcohol must be kicking in :dunno:.

I couldnt really see Thom Yorke (and the rest :dunno:) posing for photo's and conversing with these people, he/they dont seem like the type :D Anyway, good for them. I'm becoming more of a fan of theirs as time goes on, I'll never be a huge fan but I can respect the music for what it is.

Now, when they refuse to meet me, there will be hell to pay!!!

EDIT: Why the hell did I type that much ^ ?

I don't like Radiohead, but they have been one of, if not the least egotistical bands in recent years. They don't act like rock stars and they don't want to be treated like rock stars either.

They didn't refuse to meet Miley Cyrus because they thought they were better than her. They refused to meet Miley Cyrus because they're grown ass adults who can make their own decisions. Just because they are rock stars doesn't mean that they have to go around meeting every celebrity that is a fan of theirs, which is why they didn't get all pumped up when they heard that the almighty Miley Cyrus wanted to meet them. They don't care that Miley Cyrus is Miley Cyrus and they don't care that they are Radiohead; a hugely popular rock band.

They just act like people and that is the definition of humility.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
I am with you BB, I actually read this thread and then realized I don't have an interest in either party. Some of my friends are into Radiohead, I am just not bothered. Cyrus is a Disney flavor whose time is short. And yet, I read...

Most original jazz musicians were quite dicks to many people.

Radiohead are really pretty average people that happen to be rock stars. They have never been into the kissing ass or rock stardom thing.

It was a personal choice on their part not to socialize. I dont find that rude. Who knows they might have had prior obligations, it would have been rude to blow those people off to chat to Ms. Disney.

The posts above make better points about that.

And going on this...is there any person throughout the entire realm of music who has a more pretentious reputation than the "Maestro" or classical musicians, opera singers (divas), etc.

I credit Radiohead for being much more subtle than, say, Miles Davis would've been to her.

Miley Cyrus would not be in the popular conscious if it weren't for the Disney bullshit machine and the celebrity gossip machine....

Kanye West is just a crappy, rapper douchebag who does enough to embarrass himself publicly than what Radiohead could do to him.

"Wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you're not one of those people I have managed to offend by doing nothing," Yorke writes.

Miles was quite a angry man, but living in the 50's and 60' being a black man and a genius of music, I can understand a bit.

Miley on the other hand!: wtf:

I am sure all the Radiohead fans are going to unite over Miley's rejection and burn their CD's and delete the music downloads. Sure! I am sure she has big sway over that audience!

Most 'original' Jazz musicians were dicks? Have read may stories & met many Jazz musicians & I am not so sure which 'most' original ones you are speaking of?

Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Elligton,etc.. were some of the most kind people to ever grace the music industry. I have only known of two : Miles Davis ,especially, & Charles Mingus(mental problems) who could be considered 'dickheads' when it came to treatment of fans. Please point me to the reading material were 'most' original Jazz musicians were considered dickheads as I am a voracious reader of the subject.

Very low record sales especially since WWII have humbled most Jazz musicians.

I was actually suggesting that some Jazz /Classical musicians TODAY who know that they perform the most sophiscated Western music there is to offer probably do resent the fame/wealth of Rock/Rap/Pop musicians a little. Less talented/dedicated musicians who outshine them does annoy them I am sure. But most aren't 'dickheads' to their very small devoted fan base.

Seeing that this is a porn forum, I thought this thread was about something totally different. :dunno:

o_O The mind wanders to various illegal thoughts. Then I remember that she's a corn-fed gal in hollywood (read: without a personal trainer.. and when she reaches her 20s and the teenage metabolism wears off.. say hello to lardy o'fat McSaturated Buttersticks.) who in a short span of time conveyed an actual taste in music.. (radiohead) and a disgusting lack of tact (Ruin.. your favorite band? GrowTheFuckUp. GTFU.) mixed with the impossible-to-ignore fact that she is, indeed.. the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus. I sincerely wish her much misfortune in the coming years. Burn brightly for a few, remain dim for many more.

Isn't it humbling that someone/anyone thinks well enough of you that they would simply like to meet you & say hello? Blowing someone off who thinks highly of you(no matter who they are) isn't an example of HUMILITY.

As a chef I am sure people would like to simply say hello & tell you personally how much they enjoy your cooking from time to time.:dunno: I am quite sure you oblige them when possible & find it rewarding or humbling in a sometimes thankless underpaid job.

They do have the right to meet whomever they please & some do have the right to call them dickheads for blowing off a teenage fan. Miley Cyrus is a multi millionaire so I'm sure she doesn't need me to defend her.:wave2:

My point was when did Rock musicians:1orglaugh believe they have become some type of standard bearer of high art when Jazz & Classical music looms in the background.

I think you answered this yourself above. Nobody listens to Classical music except those who appreciate that style of music. If people did listen to Classical/Jazz, they MAY decide that rock and pop and rap are useless music genres..but that is debatable.

The masses listen to rock, pop, and rap. It is useful to separate the "good" artists in mass music from the shite. Miley Cyrus has done nothing to warrant any artistic attention except be born with a "cute face" and be "marketable" to sell a ton of merchandise to teenyboppers. For her to threaten to ruin another musical artist is laughable. She's also a teen herself whereas Radiohead are in their 30s.

I should have said some. Sorry!

Yes, it is shame how far jazz has fallen, many major labels have been dropping Jazz from there artist collections. I think Wynton Marsalis had a issue with that. I am a minor classic jazz buff and took a couple classes in college on the history.

Radiohead is a large fan of avant-garde jazz and some of its influences show up on some later albums.

A true shame that it is being overlooked in todays music world.
