What's most inappropriate ?
-Release photos of a man who they shot in the head.
-Let conspiracy theories rise.

So the government should operate in such a way as to do not what is best, but do that which will prevent conspiracy theories?

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

While I'd like to see them, I can see that one of the reasons they might have had to have been suppressed is because they may inflame tensions in the middle east which the Obama administration is very conscious of trying to avoid.

AFK..being taken to the vet to get neutered.
The reason people want to see them has fuck all to do with proving whether OBL is dead or not. It's nothing but base, prurient voyarism; the same kind that makes people slow down to look at traffic accidents, or watch morons on Jersey Shore humiliate themselves.

There's no way it's fake, with or without photographic proof. Can you imagine the backlash in the U.S, if anytime after now, a video is released showing OBL alive and well and proven to be recorded after May 1st?

What's funny is, the same people who blindly believe in God are asking for proof of OBL's death. LOL.

An excellent point.

These people also say Obama's a Muslim. False.

They also say he was born outside the United States. False

Thanks for coming out, doubters! You make comedy so easy!

Of course people want to see proof. However, should we hate or respect the Obama administration for not putting out the pictures of OBL?

I say respect. The the conspiracy theories grow. President Obama is showing class here, I think.

respect the administration decision

You guys are incredible.
I mean, the US government has a history of lying to the citizens -particulary concerning military or intelligence stuff- but still you guys trust them, even if they refuse to show the proofs they tell they have.
Unbelievable !

You just want to see these pictures out of fascination. That's a very limited perspective.

The US government is thinking beyond that, weighing the repercussions of releasing this material.

They are trying to protect you.

so, what? you trust the french govt whole heartedly?

The only guy who's decision matters on this has made it. I disagree but the decision to not release pics of OBL's carcass but that decision won't have a single bearing on that fact that he is no more.

If you're the kind of American who needs proof that OBL is dead after Obama just stood up in front of the world and said so..what's a picture going to do for you?

I can see why other countries would have people who don't trust what we say after the last guy stood up and 'exaggerated' the need to invade Iraq...but Americans ought to be able to distinguish between Obama's credibility and Bush's so far on this stuff.

Re: Osama Bin Laded is dead

I'm not saying I'm sympathetic, but the celebration of death...Just not good.

Also, let's consider this seriously. He's been underground and totally irrelevant for a decade. His death accomplishes nothing but soothing aggressive egos. Do you think we're going to wake up tomorrow to $1.20/gallon gas because he has been killed?

His death, while likely good, is still a death. Celebrate that, if it makes you feel good.

:dito: Although I can't take any joy from the death of anyone (no matter how evil they are) I am glad this brings some closure to the families of his victims across the world. This actually went on for far too long and I don't even think OBL expected to still be around a decade after 9/11, part of the blame must lie with Bush who took his eye off tracking down OBL (maybe intentionally to stretch out the 'war on terror') to concentrate on the Iraq fisaco which has probably help recruit far more people to Al-Qeada type groups than OBL could have dreamed of. Credit also goes to the Obama administration for using painstaking meticulous intelligence to find their man then sending in a team to get him and avoid collateral damage, better tham steamrolling into the country you think he's in hoping to find him yet killing 1000s of others in the process and turning more people to jihad. Karzai has often maintained that Afghanistan was made a scapegoat for 9/11, sure the wastelands provided safe havens for terror camps but the suicide bombers were most likely trained and briefed in Pakistan/Saudi Arabia rather than jumping through hoops of fire in Afghan training camps, Karzai has been quick to point out that OBL was found in Pakistan whose govt he maintained didn't do enough to stem the flow of fighters into/out of Afghanistan, unfortunately it seems the US is uncomfortable with challenging the Saudis or Pakistanis head on and countries like Afghanistan and Iraq proved easier targets. As Dirk said OBL was pretty much irrelevant and had become sort of an elusive bogeyman, unfortunately his legacy has been to inspire many other groups to form to take up jihad against the US with OBL as some sort of idol they wish to emulate, his death will lose Al-Qeada their media face/voice but do little to quell the violence.

I suspect the video of OBL's death shows him being arrested and then executed as has been reported in some media which is maybe why Obama is reluctant to release anything, either that or he is seen flashing his CIA card that he got back in the mid 80s or was caught on the phone to Bush yelling 'I thought we had a deal!'

Carnage: The three images show the aftermath of the raid on Osama Bin Laden's compound. The dead men, as yet unidentified, were photographed by a Pakistani security agent. MailOnline has pixellated their faces

There is nothing wrong with wanting to see the evidence.

I don't think it's a lie or a conspiracy, but I still want to see proof.

Interesting that the American media has no problem with the rapid circulation of pictures like this (four American civilian contractors, civilians, were killed in a grenade attack by suspected insurgents. Afterward, residents cheered and pulled charred bodies from burning vehicles and hung them from a Euphrates River bridge. Crowds gathered around the vehicles and dragged at least one of the bodies through the streets, witnesses said), yet is giving deference to the scum holes that may take offense to the "alleged" picture of OBL's dead body.

Two different circumstances. The American media nor g'ment had any control over the per se distribution of footage of the men ambushed in Fallujah.

In the case of OBL, the US g'ment has the only pics and/or footage of OBL and apparently Obama has decided we don't parade around images of our kills like they do.

While I disagree with him not releasing them as it portends to be more of the story for some than the fact that OBL is dead. But I understand and accept why he didn't.

I suppose in the wake of him taking OBL down so successfully it could have left a void in Faux (pas) News' todo list...so maybe he threw them a bone to gnaw on for the next 6 months.:dunno:
