The Senators and Habs (I've always wondered why the nickname for the Canadiens is habs, can someone tell me please) game looked more like a street fight rather than an actual hockey game. By the end of it, only six players remained on the canadiens bench.

Seems like the Wild found Crawford's weak spot. Top shelf over the catching glove hand, one of the hardest types of shots to save also.

Jitters get to the Canucks too much, Schneider played much worse than Luongo did in net.

The Abelkader hit looked like something you would see in a video game. He does leave his feet only it may be from him skating so fast, and plus he does hit the other player in the head.

Out of the all the players never to win a Stanley Cup, Ovechkin is the best player in my opinion never to have won one.

Yeah, the Wild found their way around the Hawks in game 3. We'll see how the next one goes. The Blackhawks have a very good habit of making necessary adjustments for the next game, so I wouldn't expect the same outcome in game 4. Either way, it's a great series.

Habs is short for Habitants. Say it in a french accent. Ha bee taunce. They were french settlers who became farmers in what is now Quebec.

i loved watching that San Jose v Vancouver game last night because once again the OVERRATED canucks resort to thuggery after SJ scores 3 goals in the 1st 6 minutes of the 3rd period. guys like kessler, burrows, bieksa and the sedin sisters can't take losing very well and when they start losing like they have done in the playoffs the last 4 or so years they start taking some really cheap shots to injure the other team. kessler swung his stick at a sharks players head who ALREADY had a vancouver player take him down and was on top of him when kessler made his cheap shot move.

I don't know how many of you saw it but Cullen's pass to Zucker on the OT GW was straight nasty. Play of the year by far, at the most critical moment, for the club. No Youtube of it yet though.

Yeah there is:

Oduya thought he had it and then....wham!!! It was in the net. I bet there wasn't a gap wider than 6 inches to squeeze that one through. Just a helluva shot from an impossible angle.

This is ridiculous:

Calder finalists announced (Jonathan Huberdeau, Brendan Gallagher, and Brandon Saad) and Nail Yakupov is not one of them. Utterly ridiculous. He tied for the lead among rookies for points, scored the most goals, and did so with Eric 'sucks terribly' Belanger as his centre for most of the year getting garbage third-line minutes. Yeah, nominate a guy who played on a line between Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, and give him some kudos for not screwing it up. Sure.

Let's compare some stats: Yakupov better than the three for goals and only Huberdeau equalled him for points. OK, so his +/- was worse than both Gallagher and Saad (but much better than Huberdeau's), but he played on a bad team and those guys both played on great teams with great linemates, so the +/- in this case isn't really a reflection of his play (and -4 on a bad team isn't such a bad +/- anyway). Yakupov also sported a 21.0% shooting percentage (which for those of you who aren't as familiar with the stat is an AMAZING shooting percentage and was also best among rookies and top five in the whole NHL); the best shooting percentage among the three nominees is Gallagher's 12.8% (which isn't even close). I know what some will be thinking now: what about defensive stats? Well, Yakupov had 41 hits (more than Huberdeau, as many as Saad, and only three fewer than Gallagher), Gallagher blocked the most shots of the four by far, but Yakupov had more than Saad and only five fewer than Huberdeau, and, finally, Yakupov had more takeaways than both Huberdeau and Gallagher.

There is not one single statistic (besides blocked shots, which no one cares about for the Calder Trophy) where Huberdeau bested Yakupov. Not one. But none of the hockey writers' ever watch Oilers games and will rarely watch a game from the West because it's past their bedtime in the East at that point. What a joke. Last season, Ryan O'Reilly didn't get nominated for the Frank J. Selke Trophy even though he was the best defensive forward in the NHL (and I'd say he wasn't nominated for much the same reason as Yakupov's slight this year: plays for a team that isn't in the spotlight (Colorado) and plays out West so the writers don't bother watching); I'd say this slight is equal to that one. What a shame. Not only should he have been nominated, he should have won. Of the three nominees, I think Gallagher deserves it most.

Licking his wounds...

Not so much licking my wounds as just shaking my head. I think it's clear at this point that Luongo has never been the problem for the Canucks in the playoffs. Besides, I predicted the Sharks would win anyway.

Also... been watching the Leafs/Bruins game for about ten minutes. Just enough to see the Leafs collapse.

Kudos as usual for doing your homework, RF. You make a compelling case for Yakupov for sure. A lot of this is political as you know and Chicago just has a lot more equity than Edmonton unfortunately. Conacher and Tarasenko were on a pace early-on to be contenders as well. I would vote for Yakupov all things considered but my vote doesn't mean anything.

The Caridac Kids come through again, gawd for bid the wings win a comfortable 4 - 1 game, naw they have to make sure it goes into OT for dramatics's sake, then 3 rookies set up the play for the winning goal.

No matter whoever wins this series nobody can say the Ducks whipped our asses despite the fact that it's the 2 seed vs. the 7th seed. If the wings end up winning this series, I gotta admit not only will I be happy I will be pretty damn proud of this team considering all of the "ish" they had to endure this year. :chickendance:

Hey....no matter how many goals are scored against you, it's still only one loss. Great bounce-back game for the Wings. They really had to have it or this series is probably over going back to Anaheim.

In the meantime, the Blues are locked in a death struggle with the Kings in by far the most wide open game of the series. Both teams look fatigued. Taking a breather before they drop the puck in the third. What a battle between two really rugged and determined teams. Mirror images of each other in many ways.

Hockey can be such a chest-clencher. Not for the faint of heart. This must explain why I see so few elderly hockey fans. They seem to all migrate to the baseball stadiums where it's usually nice and boring - and they get to be outdoors.

That's so true, its only 1 lose no matter how many goals you lose by, it also goes to show what a great coach babcock is, and your so correct, if they didn't win game 4 the series would have virtually been over with it heading back to Anaheim, but its all knotted up. now its the best of three.

When I saw the Blues were up 2 - 0 blues, I was pretty worried the Kings were in trouble, but they had a great 3rd period and just like a defending champ would, they tied it up and then in short order got the go ahead goal, and won the game to tie the series, its been a great series, maybe the best of the playoffs thusfar.

I think if a fan grew up with hockey they stick with it, they just don't get as excited as they used too, how could a HOCKEY fan lose there zest for the sport just cuz of there age. :dunno: I know I couldn't.. there still around, there just a lot more low-key about it now that there older. and yes the older folks do love there baseball as well. :D

hmmpfht........ the Caps could have tied that game up in the final 2 minutes last night if the decided to SHOOT THE PUCK ON THE PP!!!!!!!!! WTF?? down by 1 under 2 mins left in game & goalie pulled...BOMBS AWAY!!! you can't win (or tie) if you don't try. less passing more shooting!:brick:

You're right, but it wasn't meant to be taken literally. Guess I should've made it more obvious. :beatinghead:

Ok please somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken but aren't the Isles 1 OT goal short of leading this series 3 - 1 instead being tied at 2? I mean WOW I hope the Isles can pull off the upset and defeat the Pens..

Ok this next issue really chaps my ass, and I didn't even really know about it until I just read it while reading updates via the sporting news, this play is not getting a NHL displinary hearing nor any fine yet Gryba and Abdelkader both got 2 games suspensions for hits that supposedly target the opposing players heads, there wasn't any blatant evidence in either case that showed, demonstrated, malice or intent yet they both got suspensions, now this is extreme BULLSHIT IMHO!! NO suspension for this..
