What a great season opener that was for the Oilers! Nail Yakupov played great in his first career game! Ales Hemsky looked rejuvenated and had a phenomenal game! Devan Dubnyk played very well! And Jordan Eberle has the sickest backhand I have ever seen! Exclamation point!

Yes the Blues look to be a great team once again, and they'll be an elite team for many years to come, can they maintain that in the playoffs? that is yet to be seen yet again. Aside from a few left overs, the Red Wings are relatively young, with Lidstrom gone, Draper, Maltby, Holmstom, all gone now, there oldest players are Bertuzzi (37), Samuelson (36), Datsyuk & Cleary (34) Franzen (33), Kronwall & Zetterberg (32).. So aside from Bert & Samulson who only have a couple of years left @ best, the rest of the 30's gang have atleast 5 good years of productivity, and like I mentioned Detroit won't hesitate to make bold moves to rotate Elite talent to the team, some will come homegrown, some will come Via trade, and others will be added by UFA'a etc..

Detroit won't linger in mediocrity for very long, if @ all, so all you Red Wings haters relish it now, cuz Detroit will regroup and be amongst the top teams / the cream of the crop within a couple years @ most, there will NOT be a long stretch of Red Wings suffering, the Detroit fans won't tolerate losing or only being mediocre for an extended period of time, nor will Mr. Ilitch the Red Wings owner who does whatever it takes to get great again, which = spending the $$$$ which he has NO problem doing!! :2 cents:

Oh I don't disagree at all. However, if Saturday night's game is any indication, this is our chance to turn the tables for once. After years of withstanding the misery of being Detroit's bitch, you'll pardon me if I enjoy the moment. :D

BTW, NOBODY scored a prettier goal than Blues rookie Vladimir Tarasenko on Saturday. Check this out:

It's totally moot now and still early to make a real judgement call but I was very disappointed the Senators traded their 1st round pick to St. Louis for David Rundblad. That pick of course became Vladimir Tarasenko. Sure there is a chance the Senators would have passed on him anyways but come on, the guy tore up the WJC during his draft year and has looked like a dynamic prospect since. Rundblad was great in the Swedish Elite League but has already been traded by Ottawa for Kyle Turris (which helps slightly make up for losing out on Tarasenko) and hasn't been able to do much after a limited rookie season.

Still Vlady looks like a gamer.

:( Lidstrom never would have let that slide. Congrats on your Blues, Jagger! Hockey is good when St Louis is good.

It's going to be a long year for us, Marlo. Even though it's a short year, it'll be lo....you get what I'm saying.

Thanks, Diva. It was a long, tough run for us for awhile but now it appears we may finally have the right pieces to at least make a deep run into the playoffs, if not win it all. I will say that, with the short season and little time between games, our goaltending tandem is the best in the NHL from my perspective and should pay big dividends down the stretch. I sure hope so....in our 45 years of existence we have NEVER won the Stanley Cup and haven't been to the finals since 1970. It would be a dream-come-true for me and countless other jaded (but-loyal) Blues fans out there. We play Nashville on their ice tonight so we'll see how the team responds after such an emotional opening-night win against your Wings.

Yup, your team is hot, no question. I like them to be top of their division and conference. The question is how they function in playoffs. They run the danger of being Washington - great regular season team, rubbish in the playoffs.

Hope I'm wrong. I'd like to see a final between St. Louis and Ottawa. Ottawa's no where near good enough, and they choke in the playoffs, too, but I think that would be a great series, and I think it would be good for the league to have a Canadian and an American team in the finals. The Canadians already watch the cup series a lot less if it is two American teams, and after the lock out, you can bet viewship will be down all over the place.

Hell, they ARE Washington for chrissakes. Their whole history is dotted with really good regular season records followed by a one-and-done playoff. Last season is a perfect example. Took out San Jose in the first round only to get swept by the buzzsaw LA Kings on their way to the Cup. That's what makes any Blues fan worry no matter what.

This is your year, buddy. This is your year.

I've decided, I'm routing for St. Louis this year. Toronto's still my team, but you know they're going nowhere.

Well, ND was undefeated in regular season, choked in playoffs. We might be living in parallel universes.

ND didn't choke, they just got beat by a better team. The Blues usually just choke. Hopefully, this year will be different. Hey man, we need all the kharma we can get so we welcome your support, sir! :hatsoff:

Wow. Took four rounds of shootout to get this one in the books. And Detroit is lucky to win it, as I think that first one should have been allowed.

He shoved Howard into the net. That should count? I want to see slo mo on the Datsyuk shootout attempt. Pretty sure it was in.

If Detroit doesn't make the playoffs, Lidstrom is the greatest defenceman ever. Hands down.

The Blues pulled one out last night in Nashville in a shootout. Tarasenko continued what is amounting to a blazing start to his NHL career by collecting a goal and 2 assists. We zip up to Chicago today for a game against the Hawks tonight. Should be fun....serious Central Division rivals on a par with the Red Wings. I am so digging the fact that the NHL is finally back!!!

Just one more time before we move on to tonight's home opener vs St. Louis
