NHL '09/'10 Season Thread

Look out for Detroit!!!! San Jose is tanking to avoid the big red machine. And what shitty luck if Phoenix gets matched up with Detroit. Best season in franchise history for a very possible first round out. Anything can happen, but I like Detroits odds against anybody in the Pacific. Even Chicago. Vancouver worries me though.

I doubt that Phoenix will finish first in the West. Second, maybe, but first depends on Phoenix playing near perfect for the remaining nine games of the season; especially against their last game with the Blackhawks. Also, if San Jose gets their engines working again, I expect them to jump back up to the top.

But, I seriously doubt Detroit's potential in the playoffs. They are a spoiler for sure, but I wouldn't consider them a serious threat to any of the top teams, except for San Jose. I expect Phoenix with either draw Colorado or LA in the first round.

Ok, have it your way.

I won't even mention the fact that Detroit is heading into the playoffs with a unproven rookie goaltender. Have to feel confident about that, because that formula worked so well for Montreal and Columbus in the past couple of years...

Nicklas Lidstrom has more playoff experience in his cock than Montreal and Columbus combined, let alone the rest of the Wings lineup.

The Wings will finish with the 7th seed and beat either Phoenix/San Jose in the first round. After that...who knows. :dunno:

If there is one thing that I have learnt from this thread, its that everything except the goaltending doesn't matter.

You're going nowhere. rodfarva said so.

Jimmy Howard has been great this year. He could do just as well or better in the postseason, and Osgood has excelled in the postseason for a long time, so if Howard falters he might be able to step in and make a difference. Goaltending is in no way a question mark for the Red Wings. And the rest of their roster is finally fully healthy, which makes their team as good as any in the West.

If Detroit faces San Jose first round I would expect them to win. The Sharks are a bad playoff team.

Since that's what I said, right?

People who know hockey know. I guess you don't.

Really now, who put so much sand in your vagina? I'm just making jokes. I thought you'd be used to jokes, especially after watching the Oilers play this year.

I'm just having fun. No need to get upset.

Jokes are always best the first time, not the 234087234987324th.

The sand is in your vagina. After all, you keep bringing it up again and again and again. I'm not dwelling on it, just responding.

P.S. The Oilers joke was a good one. It doesn't bother me either because I've been calling them a joke for a while now. We are dead last in the NHL. This is a new experience for me. Never have the Oilers been this bad.

Hey, I got a laugh out of STDiva. And if Sideshow Bob stepping on a rake a million times in a row isn't funny, then I don't know what the world has come to!

Another great game between the Pens and Caps today, and again the Caps come out on top. I'm really starting to think that this might be the Caps' year. They have the offensive power to make a fool out of any goalie in the league, and their defence and goaltending is way more solid than people claim it is. I think Theodore has the stuff to carry this team to the Cup, so long as Ovechkin and Co. can continue to hit the back of the net; I don't know if Theodore could keep the Caps in a low scoring, defensive game, but with the Caps that never really seems to be a problem.

Great observation,Theo is back on his game and with Neuvie and Varly working on theirs we are in good shape. I still worry about our D men, they are not always consistant and put alot of pressure on our goalie's. I have been a fan since the late 80's and I have never been this excited going into the playoffs.I really think we got it together this year.

The defence is a question for me, too, but throughout the season they have proved that they are at least capable. Just look at the Caps throughout the season (This applies to the Blackhawks too in a way, since they have a "question mark at goaltending, though their defence is king): even though they have questionable goaltending and defence, they still have the best record in the league. People will say that, "hey, that doesn't mean anything in the playoffs", but I say it says a lot about how well this team plays. They are the best in the league for a reason, after all.
