I'm not comparing Sanchez to Orton, I'm comparing both of their situations. How the fans couldn't stand to see either of them play and how a change of scenery would be best.
That being said, I do believe Sanchez gets way to much hate. He has become the easy target to call the worse quarterback in the league. He throws an incomplete pass and people react as if he threw a pick6. I mean look, I'm not saying he's good, but he's better than a couple starters and a few backups.
The Starterrs: I think we all forget how truly horrible Blaine Gabbert is, if he was the quarterback for the jets he would be reciving more hate than Sanchez is getting. Brandon Weedan is probably even with Sanchez, but here's the thing, Sanchez is 3 years younger. Atleast Sanchez has somewhat of a future, Weedan has none. I think Ponder and Sanchez are pretty similar the difference is ponder has had a better running back, he had Harvin to throw to, and now he has a good wr in Greg Jennings.
The backups: Ryan Mallet has no experience and has looked complete inaccurate for the patriots two straight preseasons. Cincinnati has Josh Johnson who hasn't been able to even earn a roster spot in 2 years and John Skelton. If Skelton would have started all 16 games for Arizona last year he would have double Sanchez's interceptors even though he had Larry Fitzgerald. I bet almost nobody but football freaks and some raider fans can tell you the backup qb for Oakland. It's Terrelle Pryor who is fast, I'll give him that, but his decision making is twice as bad as Sanchez's. Charlie Whitehursf for San Diego shouldn't even have a job he's that terrible. The giants back up is David Carr who was the mark sanchez of the texans, He's 34 and still kicking it, proving it doesn't matter how old you are as a backup. Luke McCown is a joke and I forgot Senaca Wallace is even still in the league until I looked up the sains' backups. Green Bay just went out and signed Vince Young, that alone should prove my point of why teams will want Sanchez. Colt McCoy is already being the McCoy we all know and "love" for San Fran.
Sanchez: I know it seems like I'm trying to make Sanchez look great, but trust me I don't think he is. I think he slightly below average, but just like when Romo makes a mistake Sanchez's gets blown out of proportion. Please try to name one decent reciever Sanchez has had besides Holmes who barely even played last year and probably won't play much this year. Braylon Edwards and Plaxico Burress are pretty much the only two decent, and that's stretching the word decent, targets. Yeah his first two seasons he had a good defense and run game, that allowed him to manage the game, like how most backups do. The past two seasons he'd had no run game, the defense is falling apart, and the worse head coach in the league. I'm not saying Samchez should be starting for the Jets or any other team, but he would make a good backup.
Sanchez brings: experience, which teams love. Leadership/Lockerroom, somehow most of the jets still love Sanchez because he's a good leader and a great locker room influence, I mean Samchez takes all this hate with a grain of salt because he's a good guy. A team would love to have a backup like that. He can manage a game, which is a lot more than other backups can. And with actual good recievers he could make some good plays.
Next year he'll be 27 which is the perfect age for a backup quarterback. The money for 2014 is not guaranteed for Sanchez so the jets will cut him next year and trust me, he'll have quite a few teams trying to sign him as a backup.
