NFL '11 Season Thread

Strong delusion there. There's a big difference between winning because of somebody and winning despite somebody (and even then against teams that aren't that good). Tebow belongs in the latter. There is a reason other quarterbacks don't do what Tebow does...because it's not a successful formula for winning in the NFL, and won't be short of the NFL going back to the way rules were in the 40s.

Offenses win by scoring a lot. There is no other way to spin it than that. Teams score a lot in the modern NFL especially in the last 15 years by slinging the ball all over the place a lot and successfully. Everything else is an uphill battle.

If I have to pick between analysis, proof, and numbers and between anecdotal beliefs in somebody's gumption and magical ability to make his team better through osmosis I'm going with the former.

I love the fact you or anybody else can ZERO proof that all of the 'modern' football theories and success measures apply to Tim Tebow. It's funny that you're what is not a successful formula for winning in the NFL, while Tim is winning in the NFL. Just because he doesn't do it in a way you expect, doesn't mean it weighs less.

You say offenses win by scoring a lot... no offenses win by scoring ENOUGH, and that is exactly what is happening. You also say you look at analysis, proof, and numbers, but are you really? Let explore what the media and haters won't tell you.

Tim Tebow is 3-1 as a starter this year.
Tim Tebow has 9 TD's to 1 INT in four games played.
Extrapolate those current figures to fit a 16 game season and here is what you get:

36 TD's to 4 INT in 16 games played.

Yes, this is an inaccurate way of figuring and there will obviously be skewing in this... but it's far from ridiculous. His career stats with the same figures read:

20 TD's to 4 INT in 7 games as a starter (16 game appearances)

if you still think this is off in some way as a performance vs. expectation measure of figuring, compare this to his college numbers (using the same figures):

2009: 35 TD's to 5 INT
2008: 42 TD's to 4 INT
2007: 55 TD's to 6 INT

The big downside to his career numbers is he has racked up 20 sacks in this time as well. By any standard, these numbers are great, but people are so focused on the way he gets to these numbers. Honestly, his method of garnering these wins and stats is the only way analysts can combat these statistical facts and figures, and most just want to save face after consistently being wrong about the guy thus far. In this league, completion percentage and attempts mean absolutely nothing in the long run... TOUCHDOWNS AND INTERCEPTIONS remain king as far as how QB's are judged in this league. Those two stats by far hold all the weight, and Tebow's figures are directly in line as his record as a starter. The only way to get around it is to ignore it. Only time will tell if Tim continues at this pace, but so far, damn near all of the experts are and have been dead ass wrong.

Who's going to win offensive rookie of the year? A.J Green? Cam Netwon? Andy Dalton? Julio Jones? Patrick Peterson? Does he count, even though he's a CB?

Right now, I'd say the Bengals are the frontrunner. 14 TD passes for a rookie in 9 games is pretty damn good from Dalton. But so is 6 TD receptions, which Green has. But if Cincy predictably losses pace and Newton can get a few more wins, I think he becomes the favorite.

this is going to be test of all test for us. I hope Leinhart can come through. He just needs to keep his cool and not make dumbass throws.

I'm told Schaub is out for the season? If this is true, the Texans are cursed. Manning finally takes a season off and Houston loses their best players, (Williams, Foster, Johnson, Schaub) for considerable time. It's a shame.

Mario Williams and Matt Schaub are out for the season, but Arian Foster is ok. Even if Foster was out, the Texans have Ben Tate who is knocking it out. As for Andre Johnson, he should be back after the bye week. Matt Leinhart just needs to know the weapons he'll have and not lose his cool and we could be unfazed.

I guess I'll pick up Diva's slack.. :D

Last week's winner was Grasshopper who went 10-6... This guy only got 5... :brick:

Here's this week's picks:

NY Jets vs Denver <-- Rex, the gameplan is simple... Defend against the run..

Carolina vs Detroit <-- Carolina isn't there yet, better luck next year...

Jacksonville vs Cleveland <-- wow, this is just bad... Well, here we go Ogbannayaas, or whatever that running back's name is

Tampa vs Green Bay <-- thank god I have Rodgers on my fantasy team

Dallas vs Washington <-- hey washington, with miami winning games, you just might be able to get luck.. maybe..

Buffalo vs Miami <-- Miami, I think you forgot what you lost the first 7 games... Luck!

Oakland vs Minnesota <-- okay, I believe in you Palmer

Cincinnati vs Baltimore <-- only because we're home.. God, this is going to be ugly...

Seattlevs St Louis <-- lynch!

Arizona vs San Franciso <-- I don't know which game is going to be more one-sided, this or green bay...

Tennessee vs Atlanta <-- I don't think Johnson is 'really' back..

San Diego vs Chicago <-- the charges just look bad; and on the other side, the bears just look good.

Philadelpia vs NY Giants <-- even if vick does play, the giants win..

Kansas City vs New England <-- I was thinking about picking the chiefs as the upset, but then I remembered last week's mondy night game..
