NFL '10/'11 Season Thread.

Some guys peak in high school and never pan out in college. Some guys peak in college and never pan out in the NFL. And some guys peak in the NFL, they're named Tom Brady, and they go on to bang super models and win titles :dunno:

In defense of JaMarcus Russell, LSU, the SEC, well, really college football...he probably had it better in college. Though college athletes get abused in college (secret workouts, mandatory "optional" practices, etc.), they still have academics and friends to fall back on. The media pressure is intense at LSU, but it's usually not pointed directly at the college player.

In the NFL...it's football 24/7, 12 months a year. :dunno: Plus the media really blasts players every chance they get.

I bet he wishes he stayed for his Senior year at LSU :dunno:

He definitely is a shitty NFL player, and I hope he is wise enough to stash some millions in the bank and prepare for his life after the NFL....

Yeah well Jamarcus Russell wasn't even that good in college. He was above average his final year as a Junior, and average before that. He was drafted for his potential.

Jamarcus Russell had two big problems that keep him from succeeding. The first was that he had tremendous physical talent, had a lot of tools, but had very little football smarts. He preyed on weaker competition, less physically gifted athletes, and had almost always had a better team than the competition in college. Having vast physical strengths in the sport you play is great, but without the intelligence to go with it it's not enough, especially when you're a quarterback in the NFL. Being able to throw a ball far doesn't help you in reading defenses, getting in tune with your receivers, calling the correct audible, correctly changing blocking assignments, spotting the open guy quickly, or deceiving the defense.

The second factor heavily working against him was that he was unlucky enough to get picked by the Raiders. Maybe some other team might have been able to do something with him, but even really talented and skilled people get screwed up in the Raiders system, especially at the time when he entered into it. Considering he needed a lot of development comparatively it made it a lot worse than even most people that go to them. Basically, that almost assured him that he had no real chance from the beginning.

I could also point out how pathetic his work ethic is, but I don't know if that came before or after the Raiders destroyed his development. He wouldn't be the first person the Raiders destroyed their will to play their best. Then again, maybe he was just a lazy idiot from the start.

If you look at LSU's losses when Jamarcus played they where all against teams that matched LSU's talent and he had to be the difference maker. also when you never put the work in to improve or get your timing down with your wide outs you end up like he did biggest bust ever. so he's only 24 the rest of the league knows he doesn't work at this point his career is over but he could come back as a defensive tackle.

Everybody thought JaMarcus was going to be the next Daunte Culpepper. Instead, he was a fat Akili Smith. :dunno: Will the Raiders be repeating their mistake with Jason Campbell. Let's be real peeps, he ain't ever lit up the league, just sayin'...

Here's something funny...or sad.
Jason Campbell wants to take the Raiders to the next level

Well, the level of mediocrity is looking pretty darn good if you are a Raider fan these days. :rofl2: If Jason Campbell plays up to his fullest potential, he could very well take his team to that level.

I think what we learned in all of this...the SEC produces lousy Quarterbacks.. :thefinger
Oh, it's true. If your team wants a QB...head to the PAC10, then the Big 11, then the Big 12...:wave2:

We got a real deal PAC-10 man. That is a man you don't hear everyday Akili Smith.Great job Titsrock. You should teacher Football 101 you know your shit.Anyway you made a great point.I have always said that if Jasdon Cambell could get a OC for more than 2 years he could be great.I rally think that is what hurt him in Washington:2 cents:

I guess I should adjust my Pac10 comment to reflect Oregon and Wazzu qbs as being crappy NFL.

If you want an NFL calibre QB---USC, u*la, Cal and Stanford..maybe Arizona State too...avoid Wazzu and Oregon Qbs!

I can get down with that and if you a a good running back you have your pick of the SEC or Big East even the Big Ten:thumbsup:

I think Stafford will be good. There's some guy named Manning too. He has some decent numbers. :1orglaugh

I'm too lazy to do it, but I'd like to know the actual stats of which conferences QB's have had better NFL careers.

How soon we forget about Ryan Leaf and Matt Lienhart. His receivers have so little faith in him that they were practically begging for Kurt not to leave. You know, I could have sworn the SEC produced a 4 time MVP QB.:dunno: Well, as far as Tebow, Russell, and Campbell go, touche, you got me there.

This is from 2007...the SEC has some work to do. Although this past season, the SEC had more starting QBs than the Pac10 or any other conference.

NFL QB-PRODUCING CONFERENCES

Former college quarterbacks who are currently on NFL depth chart rosters with conference, number of NFL QBs and who is the best:

Conference QBs
Pac-10 15
Big Ten 10
SEC 9
ACC 8
Big 12 5
Big East 4
Other 39

I bet now the Viking are regreting passing on Clausen or McCoy...Farve has a broken ankle. He's thinking of retiring or having surgery on his ankle. :crying:

Passing on those two? Hell no. The Vikings aren't rebuilding. They're a SB contender. They need an experienced QB. They might be kicking themselves that they didn't kick Farve to the curb and go after McNabb....:thefinger

I think the Vikings can get someone experienced to fill in for the prima donna if he's really done. I haven't seen that SCREAMED over ALL ESPN MEDIA yet...when they SCREAM it as BREAKING NEWS for the next 7 days, then I'll believe he's really done :dunno:

Kerry Collins could probably be extracted from Tennessee if need be...

Truth. Tarvaris > Clausen. Maybe if they could somehow fast forward the development of a rookie QB 3-4 years than it would be a good move.

I wonder if they made a move for Big Ben?

^
That would show the league they mean bidness....

It would be a safe move for Big Ben's sexual appetite. Nothing quells the passions of ~lust~ quite like the arctic ~winter~ of Minnesota (and your beloved nation :thefinger)

Maybe they could bring Ben aboard the Sex Boat. :1orglaugh

Not that I think Clausen has a great probability to be good this year, but I think your underestimating Tarvaris Jackson's near complete incompetence. He's just a step above Jamarcus Russell.

Tavaris>Clausen only cause he has been in the NFL for what 3 or 4 years now.
Clausen will be a good QB with experience. Better than Bradford or McCoy.

Tavaris was a failed attempt to copy Mike Vick.

I get what you're saying, but Super Bowl contenders don't put rookie QB's into the mix unless you have to. Pats and Steelers come to mind.

I'd bet $1,000 US Dollars that Brett Favre will play/start this year...although, this "may" be his last year. If they win the Superbowl, he will retire for good, mark my words!
