Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

It is hard to choose between the members here, but if somebody put a gun to my head and forced me to I would have to pick BNF slightly over Jod.

Thanks for the vote hiriya....But I don't think I should be in this as I'm fairly new myself as I only been here since begining of Oct.This should goto a member who's been here for a lot longer. Also I don't deserve it as there are a lot better members than me here who deserve it more.

But once again thanks for the vote:thumbsup:
(walks away saying 'I don't believe it someone likes me')

So i gets the chance to vote again? This time my choice is BNF, I hope I hit it this time:wave:

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

As much as I respect and revere all that were nominated for 'Member Of The Year', I have to cast my vote for a very dear, very incredible friend of mine ...

Nightfly.

I know Nightfly outside of the Internet ... and I have to say that he's one of the most admirable people I've had the pleasure of ever meeting and forming a friendship with. I have much respect for the man, his knowledge, his wisdom, his charisma, his wit, and yes, even that little bit of arrogance he'll occasionally allow to show when he's perturbed, annoyed, or irritated.

As much as I respect, admire, and cherish the other nominees, Nightfly is the one with whom I choose to cast my vote.

BNF ... What can I say? You are an incredible person. You somehow manage to stay so level-headed and calm when the idiots and crazies threaten to get out of hand. Your always quick to lend a hand in any given situation. Your sense of humor is subtle and defined; almost like a rare, vintage bottle of vino. You are the embodiment of what it means to be a leader. Much respect to you ...

tunsty ... You are the Board's joker and wit. Your most popular threads and ideas keep this Board on an even keel ... especially when things threaten to turn into a powder keg. You're always good for pointing out the humorous side of life and your posts are often quite eloquent and intelligent in design. I find your abilities to be jovial and finding the lighter side of the darker issues to be an admirable quality of the highest degree. I wish I had some of that flare...

mcrocket ... Your debating skills are some of the best I have ever encountered my friend. While sometimes we clash and disagree, I have nothing but the utmost in respect for you. You've got a great head on your shoulders. While we don't often see eye to eye on a variety of subjects, I can't help but softly laugh to myself when we somehow agree on certain issues ... even when we come from completely diametrically opposed viewpoints and opinions. I bow in humble deference to your skills, sir.

Jod0565 ... Another long-standing member with a keen sense of humor and an intelligence that runs as deep as still waters. I've yet to encounter a single instance in which you've ever lost that calm, cool exterior. Your ability to turn a dark situation into a thread full of laughter and fun is also admirable and quite commendable. I can only sit here and marvel at your abilities to lighten the mood in any given situation with a subtle, light-hearted comment.

Much respect to you all, gentlemen. Had I my choice, the honor would be shared amongst the five of you; for you each contribute to this Board in your own unique way.

May the best man win that honor ...

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

In a few minutes more, I travel towards another city of my country, to meet me with family and friends, and to wait and to celebrate the arrival of new year, for this reason, I am not going to enter to the forum for a couple of days, and I want to say the following.

First, to greet to all the nominated ones, for MOTY, and to give to them humbly, my congratulations, since to be in this list, it must be agreeable, because it is the recognition of the others, to what they have given and added up to this forum.

Second, since on Saturday I am not going to know the result, I wanted to congratulate early, to whom I turned out to be chosen as " Member of the Year "

Finally, to greet all the members, since the oldest member, to the newest, and after all send to them, my sincere desires so that they have a

My best regards for everyone.

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

Someone (name withheld) jumped tunsty's ass in a new thread today. For what reason, I've not a clue, but he really jumped tunsty's ass and ruined a fun-loving discussion thread, IMO. For shame. :thefinger

You're still A-1 in my book, tunsty. :hatsoff: :nanner:

My Thoughts on MOY 2005 & the Board

Fellow FreeOnes Members, staff, Mod Squad, and friends,

It's an honor to be nominated for Member of the Year. It really is. I've not wanted to really respond to the nomination for fear of the appearance of vote-pandering. I've decided to write some of my thoughts though, and here they are:

This board is very well run, organized, and moderated, and kudos and thanks to the admin./staff/Mod Squad for that. A giant thanks to FreeOnes for making this board the sort of board that it is, and it's pretty much a sheer expense, not profit generator, for the company. It's a tangential gift from FreeOnes to fans of the main site and its sister sites that he runs.

This message board is a wonderful community, and each of us "brings something to the table" here, and that's the beauty of it. We're each uniquely talented and I appreciate that more than you know. Were we all like-minded on every topic, it'd be a pretty dull place. We have witty people, contemplative members, link scavengers/collectors who share them with other members, a few porn encyclopedia-types, friendly conversationalists, moralists, political advocates, etc. The diversity of this board is brilliant, and the latitude of freedom to express ourselves here is, despite occasional complaints (from some either presently or in the past) to the contrary, quite wide; as long as you're not incendiary or insulting to another member, you can pretty well voice whatever opinion on any topic without fear of retribution.

As a nominee for member of the year, I've been thinking about what it is that I actually bring to the board. I can't put my finger on it, so to speak, other than to say that I try to be helpful to people, offer my thoughts on various topics (some topics more than others, and some posts quite extreme in length lol), try to add a witty or amusing comment or pic or vid clip to make people smile, and also try to help offer positivity here as best I can. Sure, I've been guilty of being a bit critical of certain members, usually troublemakers just trying to get a rise out of others, or spammers, or fakers, etc. They're board pollution, and I don't like "trash" in my community, if that makes any sense. That's why this board is so well-regarded -- its proverbial streets are clean and we're more or less all very neighborly and helpful to one another.

As some of you know, 2005 has been a banner year for me - a very bad, challenging year in many ways (but it certainly has had its share of delights and wonderful moments and opportunities). I won't go into specifics, but suffice it to say that I've made some very, very good friends here whose relationships with me have extended beyond the board itself, and during my tough times this year, they've helped me to get through things. For that, I'm grateful that this board exists as well. God knows what would or could have happened were these people not in my life to help me out.

I appreciate the nomination for member of the year; again, it's a true honor, but I think jod said it first, and rightly so - we're all members of the year. Without each personality/person here, this board would not exist, or certainly it would not be the wonderful and enjoyable board that it is.

As for my own nomination for member of the year, if made to select one fellow member for the honor, I'd have to say that BNF is most deserving. He's a friend off the board, a friend on the board, an excellent, hard-working, dedicated, diplomatic, well-tempered moderator here, as well as an enjoyable fellow member who contributes both helpful, thoughtful, and amusing posts as well. I have nothing but the highest regard for BNF, and I mean it (as it may have seemed I was joking) - the next time I'm in Italy, I'm planning to visit with him.

Regardless of the outcome of the M.O.Y. voting and selection, it has been a pleasure to enjoy yet another year with all of you here on the board, and we're all members of the year, in my opinion. We're a community, and a community I'm thrilled to call one of my homes on the web. It's hard to choose just one person as member of the year, since again there are many different types of members here. At the Grammy awards, for example, they have best rock artist, best R&B artist, best country artist, etc. To select one person and simply call them best musician would be terribly difficult, as it is here.

To all of us, we're all members of the year, and let's ring in 2006 together and make it the best year yet for ourselves and for FreeOnes.com and the FreeOnes board.

Cheers!!! :hatsoff: :nanner:

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

I have been gone as of late and would like to congratulate Crissy Moran on MOTW. On Member of the YEar...Every member hear contributes to the board and makes it what it is. It wouldn't be quite as interesting without the diversity of the members here. There are also a few that stand out and set standards for other members. Nightfly, Tunsty, Colonel, American Harley, Darkman, Juballs, MCRocket, BNF. To name a few off the top of my head. My nomination would have to go to Nightfly with his well thought out posts and his wit. Happy New Year everyone!:glugglug:

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

I do have one question are we also still having a MOTW this week as well ?

Or just the MOTY ?

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

nope no member of the week this week

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

alright guys... it is time....

the big announcement!

i have looked over all of the nominations and well i must say i am impressed by the turnout and the votes. You all gave tremendous reasoning behind your nominatios and i thank you for that.

The person i have selected for member of the year, is in my opinion as well as many of yours, to be the greatest member at freeones.
They offer links, their opinion, and are not afraid to stand behind what they say.

Not to give it away, but im sure this will... this person is in an authoritative position yet never abuses that power

So with that being said, i wish to present the first ever Member Of The Year Award to:

BNF!!!

:glugglug: CONGRATULATIONS!:glugglug:

happy new year to everyone

Re: NEW!! Member of the week feature

Edit -

Congratulations BNF - I knew it would be you several days ago - you are most deserving and we'll see you at Wal-Mart for the grand opening - don't let your MOTY crown slip off.
Again, Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

I say Sir Juballs should create a separate thread to announce the MOTY choice, which, I believe will be BNF for all his hard work and the eloquence he displays on the boards.

I agree the MOTY should have a thread for himself
